CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Fusion builds off the 2010's reputation. That's not a good thing.

The first thing that jumps out is the ridiculous amount of power steering complaints. It grinds, it squeals, and it eventually just fails.

And if losing power steering isn’t enough for you, how about a sudden loss of engine power? That combination is enough to achieve clunker status.

Driving home on expressway, making a pass at 70-75miles an hour. Car makes huge jerking feeling, and I lose all acceleration and most functions including power steering.. Barely make it to shoulder avoiding two semis and multiple cars swerving. I have a wrench showing up on dashboard. Car still on but not responding to throttle. Turned it off and called tow company. After 10 mins tried to start it and it started right up and acted like nothing was wrong. Drove it home slowly, parked it. Called around and dealer said it's a common problem with throttle body but was never recalled and Ford acts like it wasn't their issue. According to shop, ford stopped covering this known defect in 2015. I called ford and explained what happened and they said 'ya it's not a recall' and they will not admit it was their issue. Had throttle body and gasket replaced no problems since.. scary as hell.. if that was my wife driving with my kids it could have been a serious accident. Ford needs to rethink its position. I wont buy another ford because of it. Which is a shame I have owned 6 in the last ten years. And because of this BS I see they don't care about my family's safety.

Fusion SEL 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission

Driving 70 mph on the highway, passing 2 semis with vehicles in front of me and behind me and it is like you just ran out of gas. Luckily I didn't cause a accident and I was finally able to get off to the side of the road. It was idling rough so I shut the car off. It started right back up and I was able to drive it home. I am going to call a ford dealership tomorrow to see what they will do to fix it. There is definitely a lot of complaints online about this problem. You don't feel very safe when it happens.

Update from Jul 13, 2016: Within 3 days, I couldn't even drive it a mile without it shutting down. The wrench light would come and well as the check engine light. Scanning the car showed fault codes P2111 and P2112. Yesterday, the ford dealership said it was the throttle body and replaced it. So far it hasn't stalled, which is a good thing, it just seems as if the transmission shifts a little harder now. If it is still doing it tomorrow, I am going to call the dealership, I just don't like the fact that it is over a half hour away every time they need to look at it.

Suffered with problem for several months. I took car to repair shop was told can not fix a problem if it is not occurring at time in shop. This is when I decided to take car to the Ford dealership since it is their car. I was told one thing but that was later change but later went back to the first solution. It took two weeks to get car repaired. I have had car back for a week so far so good. I am thankful

At a traffic light. The light turns green and I pull off. Press the gas to get in the other lane to pull away and the car has no power! Have to take my foot off the gas pedal before engine will engage again.

I remember a yellow light flashing on the dash, but I can't recall what it is. It's between the speedometer and rpm gauges.....

Fusion ES V6

I was driving on 12/12/13 on a snow covered road and figure of a wrench comes on the instrument panel and the car slows down to about 5 mph and the engine ran rough . I turned the car off and then started it again and it ran OK. The next day 12 /13/13, I took it into my Ford Dealer where I bought the car . They did a diagnostic test and it showed no problems. There was no charge. They said we don't see any problem. I drove it home with no problem.

The next day I2/14/13 I drove my wife to a to a cookie walk at church and the car did the exact same thing, once going and then returning home, each time I had to shut the car off and start it again to clear the problem. Then this morning 12/16/13 leaving home the car did the exact same thing. Lucky for me each time it happened, I could restart the car and the problem cleared itself.

That's well and good but when your going down the freeway at 65 mph and this happens, the brake lights unfortunately, do not come on and if the person behind me isn't responsive enough I will get rear ended. I am getting very paranoid about this situation and try very hard to not have any one directly behind me . Otherwise the Fusion has been excellent and I really liked the car.

2011 Ford Fusion. First the interior driver side door handle broke at 51,000 miles. After paying $200.00 for Ford's manufacturing defect, I checked on the internet and there were hundreds of complaints about this obvious defect. Less than six months later my wife was driving 65 miles per hour on a state four lane highway and the car lost power completely and stranded her. Another Ford manufacturing defect!! Last Ford I will ever buy!!

This is a highly dangerous problem and Ford refuses to do anything about it. In doing my research after the problem began, I found it is quite common for this vehicle to have the same problem, but the conditions under which it happens vary. In my first case, I was driving up hill and suddenly lost all power (luckily I only had to get over one lane to get to the side of the road), it began shaking uncontrollably and died as I pulled over. I tried staring it, nothing. My son checked under the hood but we couldn't tell what it could be. I knew I needed an oil change, so I tried starting it again and it did start, so I drove it to a nearby BIG O and they checked and changed my oil. It seemed to run fine after that.

So, after the last complaint and it seemed like the oil change fixed the problem, it happened again. On the way home from being at the dollar theater with friends, the car suddenly looses power, begins shaking uncontrollably and dies. Again, I was fortunate enough to be able to coast into a gas station safely. We checked the engine, nothing seemed wrong. After filling the tank, the engine started up just fine. A short while later, I took my son to work about 14 miles away. On the way home, it happened three more times. When I got home, I researched the problem and found many 2011 Ford Fusion complaints of the same nature, but nothing seemed consistent as to when it was happening. The next day, I took it to a local Ford dealership to be diagnosed. $120 later I find out it is a throttle body that needs to be replaced and the fuel system will need to be cleaned as well, for a total outlay of $650.00. I paid the diagnostic fee of $120.00, but don't have the money to fix the throttle body or the fuel system cleaning. So it stays dangerous and unimpaired at this time. I am trying to find a less expensive fix, but as of yet have not found one. I have contacted Ford Customer Care and Worthington Ford where I purchased the car and no one is able to help. Ford Customer Care did recommend I save the receipts so if they ever do a recall, I can put in for reimbursement.

2011 Ford Fusion -WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH, VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION, TACHOMETER STARTED GOING UP AND DOWN, TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON,FUEL GAGE GOING UP AND DOWN, A LOCK LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED, BELLS WERE GOING OFF AND CAR BEGAN TO DE-ACCELERATE. When I pulled the car to the shoulder turned the car off and back on the problem continued. I immediately drove to the Ford dealer which was close by at the time and had the manager view what was happening. He pulled the car into the shop, shut off the engine and it never restarted. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF I WAS NOT ABLE TO REAACT AS QUICKLY AS I DID. THE CAR HAS ONLY 37000 MILES. This problem has been intermittently occurring in this vehicle for a year now. The car is not safe! When is FORD going to recall this car!!!
