CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Fusion builds off the 2010's reputation. That's not a good thing.

The first thing that jumps out is the ridiculous amount of power steering complaints. It grinds, it squeals, and it eventually just fails.

And if losing power steering isn’t enough for you, how about a sudden loss of engine power? That combination is enough to achieve clunker status.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated and came to a complete stop. The contact had to turn off the engine because it was still on when the failure occurred. When the vehicle was restarted, it functioned properly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and it was diagnosed that a sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. While driving various speeds, the transmission and check engine warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle lost power and stalled intermittently on more than one occasion. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the following error code appeared: Throttle body assembly error code (P2119). Town and country Ford in charlotte, North Carolina was made aware of the failure and stated that they were unaware of any recalls regarding the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the vehicle did not qualify for the extended mileage warranty coverage. The failure mileage was approximately 154,000.

Battery, starter and flywheel. Flywheel missing teeth possibly after failed battery. Originally my car was jump started by aaa 01/2014 due to battery failure. Was advised to get battery replaced. Which was reluctantly replaced by Ford at 36,805 01/2014. Unfortunately, this may have triggered a noise that I ignored for a time, where when the car would start sometimes it would make a loud noise. It was not every start, but it did become increasingly pronounced. In may I finally went back to the dealer who said I had teeth missing from the starter and fly wheel and that it was my fault for trying to start the car while it was running (though my car has the start lockout feature). The dealer wanted over $1700 to replace flywheel and starter. Opened a case with Ford and they covered the majority of the repair, leaving me with about a $450 deductible. After the repair was approved, dealer re-classified the problem as the starter staying engaged which distorted the flywheel. I raise this case, because I think perhaps the failed battery could have been the cause, but further the replacement battery failed again in 6/25/2017, which I replaced again. On my 3rd battery. May be worth noting that my vehicle is equipped with integrated navigation system and display. Could battery failure also be the source of repeated fan blower motor issue?

I was driving on a busy city street during rush hour when I noticed the car jerking when it changed gears. The RPM would shoot up high then back down while losing power to the vehicle. I managed to get to an auto advance store where I had a diagnostic done since my check engine light was on. The diagnostic came back with code PO455 twice and PO457 twice. It was then explained that too much air was getting into my fuel system. I proceeded to go to the Ford dealership, which was a half mile away. On the way, my car continued to jerk and loose power and some points. Then everything digital which one displays my mileage and the other displays how many mile till empty displayed intermittent lines and the wrench illuminated on my dashboard. At this time my car was on but quickly lost power to go forward. It almost got rear ended by the car behind me. I put on my turn signal and I coasted to the side of the road, turn off my car waited a few minutes the turned back on and put it in drive. The car would not move forward. The engine just revved up like I had it in neutral. I put it back in park then put it in reverse. The car would operate in reverse. Had to have car towed to dealership. Three months prior to this incident, I had to take my car to the dealership because of excessive battery acid on my positive terminal that had eaten through the wiring harness. Had to have harness and battery replaced. I still notice issues of battery acid accumulating around the screws on the battery harness and positive lead again.

2011 Ford Fusion SE had a transmission problem while it was still under warranty (Nov. 2013). Our vehicle recently had trouble accelerating and shifting between gears. We took our car to a mechanic and he informed us that 3 gears in the transmission broke and we need a new transmission. This car only has 55K miles on it and this is the second transmission problem we've had!! the mechanic said he's never seen a transmission go this early, but reading reviews online of 2011 Ford Fusion, it seems like this is more common than we'd like to think.

This past week when pulling into my driveway I shifted my car into park and I could feel something give. I could not shift out of park after so I removed console to do it manually as shift interlock override was not working. I can manually shift but the dash indicator is obviously misaligned and it will never go into park or register on the dash as going into park (only seems to recognize park when I kill the engine in neutral with handbrake on and then shift to park; thus releasing the key). Other than that I can get it to go into all other gears(R, N, D, M) with some "finagling". I took it into the dealer as this problem is above me and they just looked at it this morning (11/21/16) and they just called with a quote. They said the linkage was broken and I needed a new shifter assembly. At least that's what I think they told me over the phone.

While driving 70 mph on the highway the car suddenly shuddered. The yellow wrench light came on and the gas pedal would not work. Forced to coast to the shoulder. Shut car off waited 30 seconds and tried to restart. Car started and wrench light went out. Was able to drive. Has happened repeatedly. I called Ford and there is a customer satisfaction program 13N03. To address this but said they could only correct if the computer saved a code. Since this problem has thus far failed to trip my check engine light, it is not storing a code. I argued that it was unsafe for me to drive the care like this. They stated that Ford does not recommend I drive the car and stated my only options are to take to dealership for diagnosis where the only hope is that they can drive the car and maybe the intermittent problem will luckily happen. This is unacceptable. They know the issue exists and is unsafe. I have read multiple accounts of this on the internet. How many more are required to trigger a recall?

In the last 24 hours my vehicle stalled on the freeway (I was almost rear-ended--this highway has a curb on both sides instead of shoulders) 4 times in 5 miles. The first time was as I was turning onto the highway from an intersection. Each time, I was unable to accelerate the car with the gas pedal. Each time, this was preceded by a lurching forward and a sluggish performance of the engine for about 1 second before the engine no longer powers the wheels. The wrench light comes on and I have to turn the car off and then turn it back on in order to be able to accelerate again. As I said, when I would accelerate, the engine would die, and this happened four times. When I restart the car, but before it dies again, the check engine light comes on. This is an issue with other 2011 Ford Fusion that the NHTSA has already investigated--the throttle body is defective. However, somehow the NHTSA let Ford off the hook and didn't recall the part and allowed Ford to only apply the "customer satisfaction program 13N03" to cars with automatic transmissions. I have a manual transmission car. I will tell you that exactly what happened in cars that initiated the investigation and this program is exactly what is happening in my car. The investigation needs to be reopened and this throttle body needs to be recalled for all transmission types. I was almost rear-ended by a car going 55 mph, even though I had my 4-way flashers on in the right lane, because the highway my car died on a does not have shoulders. This defective part is an extreme safety hazard and needs to be recalled!!

There's a creaking sound that is coming from the right side of the vehicle hen you're driving. The creaking sound comes to play when you're driving 5 minutes into your travel. The sound tends to come and go but at times, it gets really bad. I've had other people comment on the sound and have seen on Ford forums that this has been a common issue with this vehicle.

While driving at 60 miles per hour my vehicle decelerate in rush hour traffic, miles away from home. I was able to put my emergency flashers on and move over to the shoulder before my car completely lost power. I had a tool light come on the dash and the car was still on but no power. I turn the engine completely off for about T 1 minute and then restart my car. I was able to safely make it home. On my grandchildren first day of school, while picking up at 1 of 3 schools on the way to the second school my car decelerated just before a train track during rush hour once again. This time my engine light came on the dash. Following the same technique I restarted my car, made it across the track only for it to quit again. My grand baby was worried and needless to say so was I.. using the same technique we were able to make it safely home. Requiring another vehicle to go pick up at the other two school late.... please tell me I shouldn't be afraid to drive my car because right now I am I attempted to perform a vehicle health check but it want allow me too. Please say there is a solution to this ongoing problem surely Ford is aware of this problem and there's a recall and I'm unaware right

My car has had a few recalls. I brought it to watertown Ford and they did not fix it properly. I bought it at enterprise car sales, woburn MA. They were supposed to check it and it was not certified like they promised. From the first month the car had issues. It keeps showing the wrench and not accelerating properly. I can't afford to keep fixing it. I would like Ford to buy back the car. For more than 11,000.00.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle jerked and shook. The wrench warning indicator illuminated. The contact had to maneuver to the side of the road. After a few minutes, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The warning indicator was no longer illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence, but the acceleration was not normal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,700.

The transmission or engine slams at various speeds and starting and stopping the transmission slams the car forward. The rear view mirror has started to peel away from the glass causing major vision problems. I asked the dealer about the issue and they told me to call customer service. Needless to say I still have the same mirror.
