CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Fusion builds off the 2010's reputation. That's not a good thing.
The first thing that jumps out is the ridiculous amount of power steering complaints. It grinds, it squeals, and it eventually just fails.
And if losing power steering isn’t enough for you, how about a sudden loss of engine power? That combination is enough to achieve clunker status.

Twice now my vehicle has lost power steering while driving. The lights suddenly come on saying "service power steering now" "service advancetrac". the first time this happened they were able to reset the computer stating it was an issue with the electronic computer. Now it has happened again and it is completely unsafe. This is not the only electrical issue I have had with this car. About a year ago the electronic throttle body sensor went on it. This was an intense safety problem that was thankfully recalled. Ford really needs to realize the implications of electronic issues in this vehicle.
I was driving my vehicle on the highway at 60 miles per hour when the power steering when out completely. When this happened I was at a off ramp exit and had almost zero steering I panicked and tried to get off the exit which had a sharp radius turn, I could not keep the vehicle on the road and traveled off into to grass until I could skid to a stop. If there would have been a different situation other then the grass I was able to crash off into I or someone else could have been killed or seriously injured. It took every bit of strength I have to try to control the vehicle to keep it from a very serious accident, as my vehicle lost steering I had two dash warnings that came on. Advanced trac and power steering both quit working. With the research I've done I think its a disgrace that Ford has done nothing to fix this issue. I have no way to pay over $2000 to get my car operational again. I will no doubt loose my job do to now not having transportation. My car only has 48500 miles on it. Thanks Ford
I was driving with my two children going aprox 25 mpg, I attempted to turn right into a parking lot, and power steering was completely lost. I then drove to work aprox 20 miles with no power steering. I took my car into the Ford dealership, they spent 4 days trying to determine what the issue was, and ultimately decided the entire power steering needed to be replaced, at a cost of $1900. Being a single parent, and only one vehicle, I was left no choice but to pay and get the car fixed.
Driving up the highway at about 65mph then the car begins to start losing power and speed, I have to pull over all the way to the right in the emergency lane. The yellow wrench light is on and I shut off the car then start it again, I'm able to make it home about 10 miles from home. If I didn't react quick enough this could have caused a major accident on the freeway.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the wrench warning light illuminated and the speed decreased. The contact also stated that when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000.
The vehicle began shifting erratically when slowing to a stop, with higher than normal RPM range. After getting back up to speed, the transmission made a loud noise and felt as if it had fallen out from under the car. Problem still exists, and now shifting from second to third gear, and third to fourth gear are delayed and some times make the car feel like it may not shift. After seeing that there have been multiple complaints about the problem, I believe this is something Ford needs to look into further.
While traveling on a highway at approximately 65 mph, my power steering went out, and a power steering fault message came on. I had a real hard time getting over to the emergency lane as the steering wheel was almost impossible to turn. This caused me to almost get hit by incoming traffic while attempting to change lanes or even keep the vehicle straight, had this happen while making a turn and accident would have ensued for sure. Once I made it to the emergency lane, I turned the car off and back on and the problem went away. As I look on the web this is a very common problem with Ford Fusion, why isn't there a recall?
Vehicle stalled in traffic. Restarted after several attempts and would not idle. Vehicle ran very rough. Vehicle was towed to a local garage and the throttle body was diagnosed as the problem. Codes (P2119, P2111) came up in diagnostic tests. Also throttle position sensor in throttle body assembly has internal failure.
This has happened on numerous occasions but on this particular date I was driving with my two kids and as I was turning with traffic the power steering went out, it was all of a sudden and all the cars were going my same speed. I lost control of the vehicle and side swiped a car and also was rear ended because I stopped since I had no idea what was going on with my power steering. I will never again buy a Ford because when I called the dealership they had nothing to say.
Pulled from a red light and car started shaking vigorously. Pulled over safely into a parking light and a wrench lit up on the dash board. Took it to a near by auto parts store, clerk scanned it and said it was a throttle body malfunction.
When driving the car, it wants to come to a stop, and it goes into neutral. It jerks you bad. It doesn't matter the speed. I could be going 25mph or 55mph or 70mph. Its a hazard to be driving. Took it back about 2weeks at Ford dealer they said couldn't find anything wrong. Had warranty at that time.I call told them I didn't want the car anymore but they wouldn't help me. I have had the car for almost a year and have trouble with it all the time.
My power steering in my vehicle has been going out while I drive. (very scary) it has happened approximately 4-5 times. I read the manual and it said if "assist failure" comes on, turn off the engine and let it sit for 10 seconds, then turn vehicle on to reset. The first 4-5 times it did reset after doing so. This very last time, the vehicle no longer was resetting. It remains in my driveway because the "assist failure" stays on with no power steering. I called the dealership and the gentleman that I spoke with mentioned that the 2010 has a recall out for that issue but not yet the 2011. I am very upset that I did not get any assistance with this matter due to the problem not being my fault.
On June 27, 2014 I took my car to a dealership for a recall to reprogram it. On July 14, 2014, my car just stopped running while I was driving. After several attempts, it did restart after I turned off the air conditioner and radio. The next day I brought it into the dealership once again. The service person told me the same thing happened to several other customers after the initial recall and that now the throttle body needed to be replaced. When I asked why that wasn't replaced when it was reprogrammed, he said Ford told them to wait until the second problem occurred before replacing it. My concern is safety. Had my car stopped running on a busy highway going a higher speed limit, I might have been killed. I called Ford customer service and was given a case number and told this would be "looked into." How many might die before this recall will be done properly?
Intermittent failure when pulling out into traffic. When you press the accelerator down, the wrench light comes on and the car will only go about 5 miles per hour. Was almost hit on two occasions by oncoming traffic. If you turn the car off, then restart, it works --- until the next time it fails! I consider this a life threatening defect. In high density areas, it is not realistic to have huge gaps in traffic that would allow you to adequately protect your life, and the lives of others, every time you go to pull out into traffic.
Was stopped at a light and when started to take off car cut off and jerked forward. The "wrench" symbol appeared. Tried to start car and it shook as starting. Was able to get started and light (wrench symbol) went off. I only have @24000 miles on my vehicle and it is well-maintained. From what I have read, this seems to be a widespread problem with this model year Fusion. I was lucky that I was not rear-ended or crossing a busy intersection when this failure occurred. This is extremely dangerous and could be fatal. Ford should issue a recall immediately and not after someone gets killed due to this failure.
Check my name ~ since I had my 3 Fusion 11 ~ the same patterns have continued/ I almost lost my life in 2011. 2013 and 14 because of the huge transmission problems I have written proff that clearly explains the problem ~ so your " salesmen?" and " Ford" in detroit refused to recognize that I even had a problem. Why would any clear thinking person dream up a story like this ~ so I am here to "tell the story" because I could have been killed ~ think of this happening to your sweet grandmother !!!! yes, think and let me know because I am sending it to bloomberg and the los angeles times! the longer you wait the sooner I will call my lawyer who specializes in " criminal law" ~ that fits. So let's be far to the people you are supposed to serve and get this lemon law worthy issue solved! the part may cost $ 50 put think of Chevy because Ford Fusion when you stop hiding the problem ~ fix it now!!!! get back to me in written and I will keep this note that I will send to every newspaper around!
While driving at various speeds the car suddenly fails to accelerate. This is accompanied by the wrench light and the engine light. The engine light diagnostic code says throttle sensor. When it happens the car appears to stall out and will not accelerate but will coast. The engine is then turned off then back on and will drive normally again. It happens very sporadically. It's very dangerous to lose the ability to accelerate especially when making a turn or driving in a lane without a shoulder to pull over. From reading other posts I'm quite certain it is a defective throttle body and believe this part needs to be recalled. Lives are at risk!
I was driving on the 95 freeway in las vegas, Nevada my 2011 Ford Fusion started jerking and idling down like it was going to shut off, but the car continued to run I get 4-5 minutes into my drive at 65 mph and the car shut down. I didn't realize the power to the vehicle was gone at first. Cars are flying beside me, and behind me on the highway I'm terrified that I'm going to get killed or seriously injured in a accident. I coast over to the side of the highway put the car in park. I had previously taken my car to Ford and they keep telling me they could not duplicate the problem so they keep sending me away. They replaced the throttle body in September 2013 and the car was fine until February this year now my car is back at Ford I told them I was not taking that car because now I have a safety issue. I called the Ford regional customer relationship center I have a case number, but feel I'm not getting results. I was told by the service tech at Ford yesterday 6/17 that he has no idea what's wrong with my car they cannot figure it out. He said they check the tran and it all checkout fine. Please help I don't want to die by the hand of Ford I want to see my grandkids grow up. I have them in my car all the time I'm afraid to put them in that car now.
