CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Fusion builds off the 2010's reputation. That's not a good thing.

The first thing that jumps out is the ridiculous amount of power steering complaints. It grinds, it squeals, and it eventually just fails.

And if losing power steering isn’t enough for you, how about a sudden loss of engine power? That combination is enough to achieve clunker status.

On 5 November 2019 while traveling I-270 in Maryland without prior warning my brake pedal went all the way to the floor, and the following warning lights came on: Brake, ABS, and traction control. This vehicle was extremely difficult to slow down or stop on the highway. This repair cost me $1335.53 and sounds very similar to the Ford recall announced on December 19th involving 2006-2010 Fusion. Mine is a 2011.

Vehicle was in motion, driving to work in rain and wet road conditions. Depressed the brake pedal to slow the vehicle as it was traveling through an intersection with a puddle on the roadway. I felt the ABS engage and the brake pedal pulsate. The brake pedal pressure felt firm prior to the ABS engaging. Vehicle continued to remain in motion when I depressed the brake pedal again to slow the vehicle. This time the brake pedal felt soft and traveled to the floor board before the brakes began to slow the vehicle. The vehicles stopping distance increased significantly. I was able to drive to work and home, but the brake pedal continued to remain soft and did not engage brakes until reaching the floor. I checked for obvious leaks around the brake calibers, with none noted, and the brake fluid level was at the full level in the fluid reservoir. There are no indications of external leaking around the master cylinder. I have scheduled an appointment with the local Ford dealership to diagnose the problem. There are no warning lights, ABS or others, illuminated on the dashboard before, during or after the brakes became soft and less responsive. Originally suspected a master cylinder failure, but now suspect a ABS hydraulic control unit or module after reading about similar fault conditions on the internet. The vehicles brake fluid was serviced by Firestone about 45 days prior to this fault occurring. I am concerned about this fault because there was no warning of impending failure and the lack of a warning light indication with the fault still present is also troubling. I was able to avoid an accident because traffic was light at the time it had occurred and was able to reduce my speed and increase my following distance to compensate for the increased stopping distance.

Vehicle being driven on dry pavement in a parking lot, driver attempted to stop the vehicle and the brake pedal went to the floor and the vehicle could not be stopped normally. The vehicle continued to roll through the stop sign but eventually came to a stop. Intermittent issue has not repeated since but the vehicle has only been driven 30 miles since the incident. Seems similar to the just announced Fusion recall by Ford but the 2011 model year was not included.

While in motion and when the ABS system engages either due to brakes or stability control, a valve in the control unit sticks open and from then on the brake pedal goes to the floor with very little modulation of the brakes. This happens every time the ABS activates.

One day I had noticed while driving that something wasn't feeling right, something was different then before. So as I'm driving I can notice it more especially when coming to a stop in a hurry. I didn't have any brakes on the car so I just started pumping the peddle because I didn't know what else to do and thankfully that worked. I have sent my car to a mechanic and he has been trying very hard to fix the problem. We've changed all the pads and rotors, bled out the lines, rebauilt the master cylinder and even bought a used ABS pump. Nothing has worked to get the brakes working properly so that is why I am making this complaint about the brake sytem in my vehicle not working correctly and could've lead to someone getting hurt or killed. I have done more work on the vehicle now then it is even worth so I hope that you can help me out in this situation with my brakes. Thank you

In August 2016, I cranked my car (a 2011 Ford Fusion hybrid) in my driveway and noticed the service advancetrac, brake failure system, and ABS lights lit up on the dash. I tried to back out and notcied the electric break were not working and the break peddle was to the floor and difficult to press. The car was towed to a Ford dealer. They kept the car for a week and could not find a probelm. The lights went off and the probelm was resolved on its own. In August 2019, this probelm happened again. I cranked the car in a parking lot and noticed the same warning lights from 3 years ago were on. I was able to get home, but the brakes were not very responsive and were significiantly further down than usual. I took the car to a Ford dealership and they claimed they "reset the system" and the problem was resolved. A few weeks later, the issue reoccured. The dealership said they did not know how to relsove the problem. After about 4 days the warning lights went off and the brakes returned to normal. On October 20, 2019 the warning lights came on again and the issue is still occuring. The car is drivable, but it does not feel safe. It could not come to an abrupt stop if needed and I live on a highway where people often pull out in front of me. In 2009, Ford issued a software update for the brake system for Fusion hybrids. It seems later hybrid models also need a software update. I have read that replacing the brakes or ABS control module does not reslove the probelm. It is an issue with the computer system.

We were driving our 11 Fusion on a narrow road and pulled over into loose gravel while braking and the ABS was activated and the brake pedal went almost to the floor. The next day the brakes seemed fine, then I pulled out of my driveway and the brakes went almost to the floor again and the pedal has never came back. I'm scared to drive this car because I fear that someone is going to get killed before Ford is forced to enact a recall. Please help us! sincerely, fed up.

When you first start the car, the break booster is not building pressure properly. The first time you use the breaks, the break peddle will go all the way to the floor barely engaging the breaks. There is no way to perform an emergency stop if needed. I have had the car looked at in different shops for this. All people who have driven the car have duplicated the problem but are unable to find a fix. This has been a problem since I bought the car.

I was entering a freeway on an entrance. The cars in front me began to slow down. I was going about 45 mph. I apply brakes and I didn't feel a slow down. I reacted by then slamming the brakes and I want slowing down. I swerved into the shoulder hit the concrete wall, then hit another car from the side that was about 4 cars down and then hit the concrete wall again. The entire time I had the brakes pressed completely down. I did stop and I had the brakes floored. The pressure I'm used to feeling was no there. No one was seriously hurt. I travelled passed 6 cars and hit 1. I had plenty of time and distance to break, I couldn't stop. There were no warnings my brakes were a problems. I had just replaced all 4 brakes pads judy 2018 and did not have any issues. The freeway ramp I entered had construction so I was enclosed and had no option but the concrete wall and the ramp was ending since it merged into the highway.

My brake pedal is spongy, sometimes it goes all the way to the floor and doesn't stop. Driving real slow through a parking lot or coming down the road to a traffic light, the brakes hardly work.have taken it to several shops and was diagnosed as a bad master cylinder but after much internet search I found hundreds of people with same issues about a shop diagnosed the same part and it got replaced and didn't fix car. The cars hydraulic control unit to blame and going to be a $1500 fix.

ABS activated while in motion on icy patch. Brake peddle went to floor with no pressure afterwards and used emergency brake to stop. Next few trips worked fine. Then it happened again where ABS activated in motion on bump and lost pressure. Now brakes are always slow to engage and peddle goes almost to floor before stopping. Very dangerous to drive.

While driving approximately 10 mph on a city street, the car's ABS system randomly failed. The brakes did not work until depressed almost completely, and not well. When brought to the mechanic, computer code indicated internal electronic failure. Researching online, this seems to be a known problem with Fusion hybrids but has not been addressed by Ford in a recall. The problem seems to be intermittent and possibly related to a software glitch.

My 2011 Ford Fusion hybrid had front end rebuilt. Then about 2 weeks later the right front brake compressed and would not release. This was on orange ave. Orlando fl. I had to have the car towed to tropical Ford as the brake was frozen in a compressed position. Mileage around 116,000, they replaced the right front caliper, turned the rotor and replaced the pads. Then at 117,000 miles the same thing happened after hitting a bump. The same brake froze in a compressed position. This time on tradeport dr. Orlando, fl. Had to drive to same dealership. Now they tell me that it is probably the hcu/PCM that needs replaced and is apparently a common problem in Fusion and at least one other model. They said a pin goes bad and causes the brakes to engage or compress and will not release. This is a serious safety issue as I was almost hit due to the sudden stop and a recall needs to occur, . this may be out of warranty but is clearly a manufacturing / supplier issue!
