CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the electric power steering failure warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected by a certified mechanic who stated that the power steering assist had failed to operate as needed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the due to the age of the vehicle was not eligible for a free repair under recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 132,000.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the power steering default warning light would illuminate. In order to turn off the warning light, the contact had to turn off and then restart the vehicle. The failure occurred intermittently however, the failure persisted with the power steering assist default warning light remaining illuminated, with the service advancetrac and traction control warning lights illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that there was an internal failure in the power steering module. The contact was informed that the steering gear needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.
