I have a 2010 Ford Fusion, I was driving and my power steering went out scared me. I pulled over called someone to come out and help. I called Ford and got the service Dept who was very nonchalant and said that’s going cost 2100. I asked about a part was told there wasn’t a part had to replace the entire system. I told him I had looked on line and saw there were thousands of complaints about this issue and other Ford Fusions had been recalled but not the 2010. The guy still wasn’t that concerned. I called back and asked for the service manager who told me to bring car in on Saturday to be checked which I did. The guy I spoke with when I called in with the problem told me at that time it would be $1700 to fix the problem again didn’t seem to be concerned just wanted to sell something. The message was power steering assist default. On 4/20/20 I called corporate office and they did nothing to help. I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy a Ford there are too many hidden fees parts are very expensive when you can get one. They make a lot of money having consumers purchasing entire units because they don’t have parts for it. Also they’re not standing by there cars when they know it’s a problem. Also when my friend arrived the power steering had started back working which was weird.

Luckily this happened to my daughter-in-law while in the driveway. It is not driveable and she ended up buying another car. It is sitting in my driveway waiting to be fixed or for a recall. The worst thing is that I also have a 2012 Fusion and it has given me the same message but so far if I turn it off and re-start it works ok. I am just waiting for it to happen to me and I work on the road. Ford needs to man-up and do the right thing and and fix this problem. I buy another car efery few years, maybe I should go with a Dodge.

On June 27th I went to leave for work and once I got into my car it wouldn't start. My husband and I both checked everything on the vehicle to see if we could figure out why the car was dead. We found nothing that could have caused it. We attempted to jump the car and it seemed to be getting power due to the lights coming on and certain noises that were sounding. Initially the car would not fully start. We had to let the cables sit for quite some time before we were able to get the car started. We have never had that issue in the past and the battery that is currently in the car is only a couple years old. Once the car actually started it was fine.

Then 2 days later on June 29th, I went to leave for work again and I could not move my steering wheel at all. My dash was beeping and kept showing a message that said "power steering assist fault" "service advancetrac" We cannot think of any reason as to how or why this has happened but we seem to think there is a connection between the 2 days when the battery was dead and then the power steering went out. We have tried all possible solutions that we could besides replacing the unit and so far we have not gotten anywhere with anything. I have read a lot of other people with the same year, make and model as me who are or have had this same problem.

I checked for any possible recalls on this and there doesn't seem to be any on my year vehicle but it looks like Ford maybe launched an investigation into this problem a few years back. Other than that I have not seen any current resolutions or new recalls for this specific problem but it seems there are still others besides myself who are having the same problem. I don't know what to do at this point. All I know is this is a very aggravating issue and I need it to be resolved ASAP!!!!!

My daughter was driving her 2010 Ford Fusion to school (Wayne State University, Detroit) and had exited the freeway when the power steering went out. Almost caused an accident when trying to make a turn. The dash indicator read: (Power Steering Assist Fault). She managed to park the car and promptly called me for help. My wife and I drove 2 vehicles to her location, left one with her and I drove her Fusion back home.

After doing some research, I discovered that this is a known problem, but to my disappointment found that Ford had only recalled 2011 and 2012 Models.

How can you not recall the 2010's when they are having the same problem and same safety issue. My daughter does not have the $2,000.00 to repair it and cannot drive it safely.

My last 5 vehicles were F-150's and my son has a Fusion. I would hope that Ford would acknowledge the problem and recall like it did the 2011 & 2012's...or maybe I should reconsider our loyalty!

I'm not a rich person, I have rheumatoid arthritis...and there's no way I can drive this car without power steering. I live on a fixed income,and I cant afford to fix it....if they're having...so many problems with the steering why do they not have a recall on it? Luckily I wasn't going down the highway when this happened...or it might have been a different story.....the light would come on every so often so I would turn it off and recrank it and it would go off.....now it says power steering assist default...????…. and wont go off...….. I called the part store and its around 650.00 just for the part......then I will have to have it fixed and then reprogrammed after that...and that ends up to a lot of dollars...that I don't have.

THE POWER ASSIST STEERING IS NO LONGER WORKING. AS NEER AS I CAN SEE IT WAS A REALLY BAD DESIGN. THE BRAIN OF THE UNIT WAS INSTALL NEXT TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THUS IT WAS EXPOSED TO EXCESSIVE HEAT. I WANT TO KNOW WHY FORD RECALLED THE 2011 FUSION WHICH IS THE EXACT UNIT THAT IS IN THE 2010. MY WIFE DRIVES THIS CAR AND COULD HARDLY STEER THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE STEERING ASSIST FAULT. SHE CAME CLOSE TO CRASHING THE CAR AND WAS UPSET FOR DAYS. FORD YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO PUT THIS PIECE OF CRAP IN ANY CAR WITH THIS DESIGN. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? THAT HEAT SHIELD DOES NOTHING TO PREVENT THIS STEERING UNIT FROM FAILURE.

What the hell is Ford waiting for? Does there have to be a death before they recall the 2010 Ford Fusion? The steering stops in the middle of the freeway and almost caused an accident. I will recommend family and friends do not buy a Ford of any kind. Ford does not take care of their mistakes. My sister always buys Chevrolet and Kia and has never ever had a problem that the company did not fix. I can not believe how many people have complained about the steering on the 2010 Ford Fusion and the company has done NOTHING. Please fix the problem before someone dies from it.
