2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.
This car had a recall for the exact problem that exists today. The recall was for the fuel tank and canister purge valve on my 2010 Fusion. According to the dealer, Plaza Ford in Sydney NS, an inspection was done and report said all was ok/ Why then is there a crack in the top of the tank and fuel leaking out ?

This is the third major problem I've had with this car, and it annoys me to no end when Ford does not own up to their responsibilities. I will never purchase, lease or even drive into a ford car dealer ship again. The cars are junk and no one seems to give a darn. Greedy liars.
My Ford then and now has a constant smell of gas fumes, which I thought would have gone away when I had a new gas tank installed by a local auto repair shop in the spring of 2015. Low and behold Ford had another recall on the fuel tank. I am asking for those expenses of $106.00 for the fuel tank and $195.00 for installation. In February I took my Ford to Mike Castrucci Ford in Alexandria, KY to have the fuel tank and purge valve replaced. I did not go into detail with this dealership with my prior three years of frustrations; they were kind but sent me on my way with check engine light on happily saying they would look at it for $89.99…
The recall, 15S34 caused the gas tank to crack and leak and ford says they will not honor the recall as I had the gas tank repaired before the recall and they have washed their hands of the situation. I called and talked to a service rep, Al and all he did was read off a script of how they were not going to help me with their bad product. Lesson learned...don't fix car right away as the recall will come shortly after and have the dealership eat the cost. Sounds great, right?
We had the car in for regular servicing in Nov. 2015 and were told there was a recall because of the fuel tank and we would receive a letter in Jan. telling us what the problem was and what to do. We received the letter in Jan. 16, stating what the issue was and advising us we would get another letter in the spring to tell us what to do. We received the next letter early May. They advised us to make an appt. asap. We did and they checked the car and said the fuel tank needed to be replaced under the recall. We were told it would be about 5 days to get the fuel tank and purge valve. They gave us a rental vehicle. We didn't hear from them so I called on the 6th day. I was told the fuel tanks were on back order and wouldn't be available until end of July or early August. They extended my rental. We called first week of August and were told they still haven't heard anything. I emailed Ford Canada Customer Service and was told it could be Sept. before the fuel tanks are available. We are into our 4th mth with the rental. I can't believe how long this is taking since they knew about this problem in Nov. 2015. We have been loyal Ford customers for many years but my next vehicle will not be a Ford.
Update from Dec 2, 2016: Update...After 5 and 1/2 mths., we got our Fusion back. So far so good. While it was in for the recall and waiting for the fuel tank and purge valve we got them to replace the drive shaft. We had been hearing a noise off and on just before it went in for the recall and they determined it was the drive shaft. Hopefully that's it for awhile. 🙂
I started smelling gasoline every time I would get out of my car or walk towards it. I was under the impression I had "spilled some". I proceeded to smell it and noticed it was gasoline. So I looked under my car and realized that it had a gas leak. I took my card to a Ford dealership and the found my fuel tank seal has cracked. This problem needs to be looked into for the safely of the consumer.
Leaking gas tank!!!! This needs to be recalled by FORD! 2010 Ford Fusion (5 year old car) that has a corroded metal gas tank and leaks at the seams! I just paid $1700 to replace a five year old gas tank that had corroded all the way through at the seams..
How ridiculous that FORD does not recall. There are no after-market gas tanks and Ford chose to stop weather coating their metal gas tanks! it could have blown up or been in my garage leaking with my kids.
This needs to be recalled by FORD!!!

According to Ford technician, fuel tank dented on top side during manufacturing process. Dent caused tank coating failure to adhere. Resulted in tank coating peeling then the metal corroded then a hole developed and fuel leaked out. Dealer quite to replace 1139 dollars for parts, $300 labor. Almost $1500 total.
Ford motors customer service would not extend a courtesy warranty. Car was also out of warranty. Filed complaint with dealer, Ford motor co and NHTSA.
