While traveling on the expressway with the cruise control on my engine returned to idle speed and there was no response from the accelerator pedal. I had to coast to a stop on the shoulder, put the car in park, shut it off, and restart it. The next day this happened again twice, the check engine light came on, I read the code and it was P2112 throttle actuator control system stuck shut. I did some research and there are apparently some known problems with the throttle body assembly. My car is out of warranty and the dealer told me this part isn't covered under the extended emissions warranty. I was lucky that this didn't happen while I was turning or merging into traffic.

On 7/22/2012 at approximately 2000 hours my family was traveling southbound on Georgia state route 3 - us hwy. 41 in rocky face, Georgia when our vehicle (2010 Ford Fusion automatic transmission) suddenly without notice went from a solid cruising speed of 40mph to an abrupt halt - nose of the car actually went forward towards the ground so abruptly that it made contact with the ground. The vehicle stalled (still barely running) in the lane of travel and would not get any throttle acceleration. My family and vehicle was almost struck by on coming motorists from the rear due to the abrupt stopping and the vehicle would barely get any throttle acceleration. After the Georgia state patrol trooper came to assist the car would not go above 25 mph without suddenly stalling and the check engine light coming on along with an orange wrench symbol. The vehicle had to be abandoned at the dalton Georgia state patrol post due to this issue until Ford could send a representative to tow the vehicle to the local dealer where we purchased. The local dealer on 7/23/12 informed us that this is an on-going problem that Ford is aware of and that the "throttle body" would have to be replaced. Upon further online investigation I found that this issue is widespread and reported since 2010 & has caused very unsafe conditions for motorists such as it did with my family. I am asking you all to look into recalling the "throttle body" on the 2010 Ford Fusion to be replaced. This is a problem that Ford is aware of and they are blatantly passing the blame off onto the consumer and someone (if not my own family) is going to get hurt. It is unsafe for a late model vehicle that has been serviced as required by the manufacture every 3-5 months to have these abrupt issues and break my family down in the roadway of travel on a major us highway. NHTSA please have Ford correct before someone gets injured!!

Driving up to a red light that had just turned green, the wrench light came on in my 2010 Ford Fusion, it began to jerk, I lost all acceleration, and my gas pedal would not respond. I was able to limp the car into a parking lot where I turned the car off. I waited a minute or so and recranked it. It shook/sputtered a little bit, but eventually cranked and the wrench light was off. Continued driving and it happened again a couple miles down the road at around 50 mph. Again I was able to limp into a parking lot, kill the car, and recrank as before. Took car to dealer the next day. They couldn't get an error code reading or replicate the problem. Was told to come back with wrench light on (which is impossible because the car won't go when the light is on). I've had this problem occur 3 more times, have filed a complaint with Ford, and my vehicle is currently at the dealership as they try to diagnose the problem again. I've read a ridiculous number of complaints about this issue online from other 2010 Ford Fusion owners. The problem is a bad throttle body, and it is going to get someone killed. I've been driving cautiously since it first occurred because I know I can't rely on the gas pedal to always respond, but for someone to whom it happens the first time who attempts to cross traffic and then finds himself a sitting duck in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic, it is going to spell tragedy. Please hold Ford responsible!

With no warning or other signs, the car stalled out. Driving on a flat /straight road. Pulled to the side of the road and restarted the car without issue. 3hrs later the same issue. Two days after that my wife experienced the same issue. Checking on the internet, this seems to be a re-occurring theme for the electronic throttle bodies of the Ford Fusion.

Was driving out of a parking lot car suddenly stalled when accelerating. Had to park and restart car to reengage engine. Wrench and engine lights came on. Car stalled out three more times going around the block. Diag code was P0455. Dealer initially replaced purge valve. On way home from dealership repair, engine cut out going 70 on highway. Returned car to dealer. Diag code was P2112. Dealer replaced throttle body. Car seems to be running normally now. This was a scary problem and a huge possible safety hazard when the vehicle cuts out unexpectedly at random times.

I accelerated away from a stop light and as I shifted from 2nd to 3rd gear the car jerked and I had no power at all the engine was still running, but when I put my foot into the accelerator nothing happened. Also a wrench was displayed in the warning light area of the dash. I was able to coast to the side of the road and turned the car off. When I restarted it about 15 seconds later the wrench was gone and the car seemed fine. I am reporting this because I see that it is happening to a large number of 2010 Fusion owners with similar mileage and it can be a real safety issue when your car dies in traffic!

I was driving on a main street at 40 mph when my Fusion suddenly lost power. I was able to pull over in a left turn lane. Both the check engine light and the wrench light came on. I was able to restart the car and took back streets at a reduced speed in order to complete the remaining 3 miles to my home. I was able to drive the car to the nearest Ford dealership the next morning. Apparently, the problem is a defective throttle control. It was replaced for a price slightly less than $500. The replacement comes with a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty. Contacted Ford customer service to vent my frustration on this expensive maintenance item. Response from Ford was very disappointing. My claim was denied since my car is less than 4,000 miles out of warranty. I was fortunate that this event did not occur on a highway and I was close to my home. Searching the internet showed that this is a common failure with Ford Fusion. This is the first Ford I have purchased and will be the last Ford I will purchase. It seems shortsighted on the part of Ford to ignore the value of quality and customer satisfaction. I have had my Fusion in every three months for routine maintenance, but I see no point in continuing to pay a premium for service at a dealership when I know that Ford will not stand behind their vehicles.

On multiple occasions the car will just lose all throttle response, the car is still running, but will not accelerate. I have to find some place to pull over and shut the car off. Then restart the engine and then it will run good. The issue happens sometimes up six times in one day, and then you can go a week without an issue. I have seen this issue with speeds as low as 20 mph all the way up to 70 mph. From what I have read online it would appear to possibly be due to a defective throttle body. Apparently this throttle body uses a servo to open and close the butterfly that allows air into the intake manifold. I feel this could be a very dangerous problem especially if you are driving and it loses the ability to accelerate and you can not find a safe place to pull over to restart the car.

On June 19, 2012, driving at approximately 40 mph, the car does not respond to pressing gas pedal, and it slows to a stop; everything else seems to continue to work fine. Turned car off, then restarted it with no issues. On July 7, 2012, again driving at about 40-45 mph, the car starts to jerk, the gas pedal doesn't work, and the car starts to slow, while jerking, and a wrench/tool symbol appears on the dashboard. I pulled over, turned the car off, then turned it back on. I made it about 1 mile (close to home) and the car loses power in the same manner, jerking and slowing, gas pedal doesn't work, and the wrench light and the engine light both come on. I was able to roll down the road into my driveway. Final incident with the same issues occurred on July 9, 2012. I called Ford (car was still under warranty), and they said it was the throttle body, and the throttle body was replaced.

I and my children were traveling down the highway at 60 mph and I all of a sudden I could not give the car any gas. The motor was still running but I had no control over the gas. So I coasted until I could pull over. As I slowed down, the car shuttered. I turned the car off and restarted it. It ran fine for awhile. Then it happened again and again (as I was entering an intersection, turning onto a major highway, and rounding a curve) until it was happening 3-4 times in a trip. I took the vehicle in to the dealership and they cleaned the throttle body. It ran ok for about 2 weeks and then became worse than it was before. I took it back to the dealership and they replaced the throttle body. So now time will tell. I was/am concerned about the fact I might not have been so lucky to be able to get off of the road and could have been in an accident. I have seen that this is a common occurrence in the 2010 Ford Fusion. I have contacted Ford Motor Company as well to no avail.

While cruising between 65 - 70 mph, vehicle stuttered, then "throttle control/transmission' warning light illuminated, and vehicle lost power. Accelerator pedal completely unresponsive and engine becomes erratic, but power steering and other electrical components unaffected. Able to coast to side of road, where engine continues to sputter, but does not stall. Changing transmission position has no effect. Turning vehicle off and then back on appears to rectify the condition. Two identical occurrences, but first time (06/15/12) with cruise control on, second time (07/06/12) with cruise control off. Dealership unable to find source of problem.

The first time, the car was pulling on to a main road going up to 15 mph while turning right. The car began to shudder, stall (only able to coast to a stop), many warning lights including the wrench light came on and dinged. After shutting the key off and waiting up to a couple of minutes, engine started fine and drove normally. 1 month later, this exact scenario happened again while turning right from a complete stop. 1 month later, it happened again but with only the yellow wrench light coming on (the car was curving to the right at about 40 mph). 2 days later the car did the same thing at about 35 mph. This time the car would start up, and be fine until we accelerated. We narrowly avoided an accident when the car did the same thing a second time. It then did it a third time and we waited to start the car. We were then able to drive the car home normally with a code alert on the dash. I took the car to get a diagnosis and they showed code P2111.

Driving in the left lane of a multi-lane road. The light had just gone yellow and all of a sudden the engine hicupped hard and I had no response to the gas pedal at all, plus the check engine light (wrench icon) came on. Put on my signal and pulled into the left turn lane as it was empty. I didn't want to block the left lane, it was the start of rush hour traffic. I came to a stop and had no vehicle movement in response to stepping on the gas pedal. I put the vehicle in park, turned off the engine and tried to restart it. The check engine light went away and the car started and acted normal. I stopped at the store on the way home, then on the way from the store to home it happened again. I had to stop the vehicle and put it in park and turn it off in order for it to start again. When I got home I put a code reader on the vehicle, but it showed no code. It did it again on my way to work in the morning and again on the way home after work. Each time I have to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road and come to a complete stop, put it in park and turn it off and back on to get it to start again. This is extremely dangerous for me and anyone around me. I take my vehicle to Ford for servicing and they say no recalls are in place for this. I enter the symptoms into the search engine of the internet and find numerous complaints from other owners and drivers of the same defect. There is a problem with the electronic throttle body. I called my local Ford dealer and they say that first they have to run tests to verify the throttle body is the problem and I will be charged for that, because the code resets each time. The total bill will be $600 to $700. They have dealt with it before, but Ford has nothing in place to address it as a safety issue. Please don't wait til someone gets hurt or possibly killed before this matter is taken seriously and proper measures are taken.

Engine began shutting down while moving in morning rush hour. Also surges forward and runs thru multiple gears while in stop and go traffic with light, if any throttle applied. On 6-8-12 engine went into failsafe mode, 1100 RPM while traveling at 60 mph. No response from throttle, had to manipulate thru traffic to beach car upon shoulder of road. After shutting off key and restarting, vehicle seemed fine, but same situation happened twice more within minutes. Drove car to nearest Ford dealer who "cleared the old codes" and test drove, finding no further issue. Billed me under esp service agreement, and continued onto work. Leaving work to make deliveries, car initiated exactly same response as earlier (5 times), at various speeds, and again, heavy traffic. Took to dealer I bought car from, who immediately claimed it needed a new throttle body, which are on national back-order, delivery date unknown. Referred to another dealer who had open bays and a throttle body in stock, but for some reason was uninterested in even looking at the car. Offered to leave car, esp offers rental, so I could return to work, but that part has become uncovered by the extended warranty, and they still had no interest in fixing car after I agreed to pay myself. Transmission has a quirky problem of downshifting aggressively when traveling downhill, up-shifting rapidly in slow moving traffic, and now a throttle body problem which causes car to go into a no power situation while at speed.

Without warning the car lost all ability to accelerate. This occurred several times over the course of two days, sometimes at speeds up to 70 mph. The car jerks, wrench light comes on, and there is no power from the gas pedal. A/C and radio work fine. After navigating thru traffic without power, we turn car off and back on, and it's good to go. But for how long? could be very dangerous, recall is necessary. Dealer says 2010 Fusion are "notorious" for this throttle body problem and charged $502 to correct it.

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion with a six cylinder engine. While driving, I started speeding up from an intersection, only to experience a complete and total loss of power, the wrench light came, the engine started misfiring (rough idle at less than 700 RPM), but all systems where still working. Pressing the gas pedal produced no results. I was able to pull off the side of the road, stop the engine, let the car sit for about 45 seconds, and then restarted it. When the engine restarted, the car started up and ran like nothing had happened. Last Thursday and Friday, the Fusion did the exact same thing, I had a catastrophic loss of power, the wrench light came on again, the engine was misfiring (rough idle), the rest of the systems continued working. I was able to pull off the road, stop the car, and then restart. This is third time I take to the dealer, and still received not diagnostic. Actually this vehicle is in the dealer workshop (automovilistica veracruzana sa de cv. Av lafragua 2100 tel 011 52 229 9231920 veracruz, Mexico). The first and second visit to the dealer the diagnostic was no problem.

Going about 75 mph with cruise on when problem occurred. The wrench light comes on and the car loses its acceleration completely. I pull over the side of the road. The engine would only turn 1000 RPM. The only way to fix it is to turn the car off and back on again. The wrench light will disappear after that and it'll start driving normally again. The problems seems to be with a bad throttle body assembly part. Contacted Ford about safety problem. Many examples on the internet of other owners with this problem with the 2010 Ford Fusion.
