CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't
Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.
2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

I purchased a 2010 Ford Fusion Sport from a dealer, brand new for my daughter with the intentions of it getting her through college as Ford has always been a dependable brand for me.
We still own this Fusion, have taken very good care of it; however, at 56,000 miles, the other night we were coming home from eating out and all of a sudden it started making a funny noise like it was dragging something and it was losing acceleration power and then died at a stop light. It started back up & we made it home as we were just down the street. No check engine lights, no warning signs were on prior to this. We have her car serviced regularly for oil changes & such, the most recent being in January and prior to her leaving for college in the August, I had an overall service to be sure everything was in good shape and safe for her to drive and also had it done again when she was home in November. No signs of any issues at any of those times.
After having it towed to the local Ford dealer for inspection, I have been informed that this was caused by a poor design and malfunction of the water pump that leaks internally into the oil pan instead of out on the ground, causing internal overheating & irreparable damage to the engine. This malfunction does not trigger any type of check engine light nor provide any type of warning sign since the leak goes directly into the oil pan, so it is never noticed on the ground or anywhere else until it is too late and the engine is shot. As such, I have now been informed that due to this, our vehicle needs a new engine at a cost of $7,150. Since I've owned it more than 5 years, warranty is expired although mileage is under 60,000. Doesn't matter and Ford says not their problem.
