2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

My 2010 Ford Fusion SE V6 flex fuel has quit about six times over the past ten days. The first distressing incident occurred about 9 P.M. on an isolated county road with my 4-year-old grandson in the car. We were traveling about 50 mph when without warning the car stalled & seemed to lose power in the middle of the road. The car quit pulling, a wrench indicator light lit up on the dash, then starting bucking & idling erratically. I pulled onto the shoulder & turned off the key. I retried the ignition & car restarted. After making sure it would continue to run, I pulled back out & continued home. The Ford dealership had just checked this car 3 wks before for "fuel inlet light" issue. Told that the neck of the gas line leaks air/water (car was designed/sold w/out a gas cap which causes that light & check engine to light up). We believed that this was the cause of problem, once again, or perhaps I had gotten some bad gas. We had been to town, added fuel cleaner, filled the tank & had no problems with it. Then my mother-in-law passed away two days later & the car quit out of state on a busy interstate hwy! we almost didn't get it out of the road & acted like it was not going to restart that time. Latest episode was on the way home from funeral (abt 40 mls away), it quit again at 11 P.M. that night. Now we've been informed that throttle body is going out. This is not only outrageous for mileage on it, but incredibly hazardous to me, my family, and other drivers on the road! given the shear number of recorded complaints/incidents (for the same problem) seen here as well as in researching online, Ford should recall these vehicles before someone is seriously hurt or killed. I have been a faithful Ford customer all my life, but I am thinking of trading it in on another make & model altogether! I have just about lost faith and trust in Ford Motor Company.
The throttle body on my 2010 Ford Fusion SE failed. My car lost power and stalled out four times while driving in traffic. I have replaced the part and would certainly like to see Ford recall this part.
Driving down the street got up to 30mph when the wrench light came on. Once the wrench light came & I pressed on the gas pedal I could not accelerate. Turned the car off waited a few minutes turned the car back on started up fine. Didn't happen again until a week later, some problem happened again.
I was driving on a main road and after accelerating through a light, my car stopped accelerating and my "wrench" light came on. I could no longer accelerate and the car began jumping back and forth as if it were trying to switch gears. Luckily I wasn't on a major highway. I shut the car off and turned it back on and the light went away briefly. After pulling onto a side road it happened again and when I put it in park, my RPM gauge began fluctuating and I was not pressing the gas pedal.it also began hard shifting and it seemed as though the transmission was going to drop. Not sure if this is a computer issue, but it is clearly not safe. It stalled several more times on the way home. It's definitely not safe to drive and thankfully I was not on a major highway where lives could have been at risk. I researched this weekend and clearly other people have had the same issue. I can't believe this isn't a recall. Hopefully Ford takes care of this before someone gets seriously hurt.
Was driving in morning. Turned on the heated seat. Got so hot that it burned my rear. Tried to turn it off but would not turn off. Could smell seat burning. Had to pull over and get out. Turned off vehicle and let seat cool down. Started car and seat no longer heats. Looked online and forums say this is a common problem. This is a safety issue. Could cause accidents big time!

We were driving approximately 65 mph when the car suddenly started to decelerate at a rapid pace and eventually stalled. We noticed a wrench light on the dashboard as we pulled the car over. After restarting the car we were able to drive a couple of miles before the same thing would occur. After a couple more times of having to pull over and restart the car the check engine light also came on. Thankfully we were able to get to a family members house as we were approx 90 miles from home. The code we pulled from the car was P2111.....indicative of this infamous throttle body problem in this make and model. We ended up having to get towed to the nearest dealership 35 miles away.....yet another 35 from our home. Thankfully this was covered under our extended warranty plan from Ford. A coworker of mine had the exact same issue about 6 months ago....same make/model/year. Luckily the highway we were on wasn't busy at the time the car stalled repeatedly. I don't see how this can't be a recall......
While driving vehicle the speed became to rapidly decrease while the check engine light came on and the car begin shake and sputter. Tried driving again and realized that I was fine as long as I did not go over 40mph. Had to have me car towed home because of the distance between my job and home. Called around, had the code read on the car and it was a "P2112" error code which pointed to the throttle body failure. Contacted Ford and was told that although this is a known issue, I would have to pay for my own part-labor. Paying $445 on tomorrow to have the car repaired. I just purchased the car in January 2013, and me paying for repairs on tomorrow means that I cannot pay my car note. This is horrible since the representative at Ford customer assistance stated that this is a known issue. I've seen multiple posts online regarding the same thing. This is also a safety hazard, had I been going faster on the interstate (I had not made it on yet when the issue first started) myself or someone else could've been seriously injured or killed because of the sudden stop.
1st incident: I was driving down the freeway at 65mph. My RPM dropped for no reason. It felt like I lost power but the car kept moving. I took the next exit and while sitting at an intersection the wrench light came on and the car lost all power. I waited about 5 minutes and turned the key...the car started right up. 2nd: I was driving 40 mph and noticed the RPM drop. When I stopped at a stop light the wrench light came on and the car lost power. 3rd incident: Tonight, as I was driving 35 mph down a winding road, the wrench light came on the car lost power and slowed to a roll. I pressed the gas pedal but it didn't work but the car kept crawling with a jerky motion. Cars were coming around the corner so fast. I turned on my flashers, put the car in park, turned the key off and restarted the car. I have had the car checked out by 2 Ford dealers they say they don't know what the problem could be. They could not detect any codes from the car computer. They ruled out the battery and the alternator. I am taking it in again tomorrow to a different Ford dealer. I took a picture of the dash showing the wrench light and I will show them the posts on this site.
From a stopped position in my condo parking lot, I began to enter street and my car began to jerk/lunge. I noticed the yellow gold wrench warning light came on. Engine stopped. I was able to restart and chugged/eased into a plaza parking lot. Called Ford dealership and was advised to call for a tow to their service department. There was no prior incident leading up to this event. It just happened. I feel lucky to have been entering a side street vice being stopped and trying to move through a congested intersection. The throttle body was replaced.
The car stalled in the middle of airport traffic. The wrench light came on and the check engine light. It occurred again on the fl turnpike traveling at 75 mph. We no longer drive on the highways and it has happened 3 more times. Research says it is the throttle position sensor, and the only fix is to replace the throttle body.
As I was driving through an intersection taking a left hand turn, my car slowed down and was no longer responsive to my pushing the gas pedal. I had to roll through the intersection to safety and fortunately on coming traffic was far enough away that I was not hit. I had to turn off my car and turn it back on to fix the issue. I could have been seriously injured. My research showed me that many others are suffering from this dangerous problem which seems to stem from the throttle body. I need this fixed immediately since this is a major issue but no place is selling this part. Very concerned about how this could turn out for others
I have a 2010 Ford Fusion SE 2.5 and my check engine light came on along with a wrench light and my car went in to "limp mode" and my car lost power as I was turning left with traffic coming right at me, I was barely able to make it across the road without being hit!
While driving down the road, the car will suddenly jerk and the check engine (wrench) light will come on and I will immediately lose all ability to accelerate. After pulling the car over and putting the car in park, the car begins to shake until I turn off the car. When I turn the car back on, it takes a minute to turn over and then drives fine until it happens again.
I recently purchased the vehicle used with 43,000 miles on it. In order to get the vehicle registered in my state I had to have an emissions test done. At some point during the test the vehicle's electronic power steering system detected a fault that disabled the power steering. When I got back in the car I had no power steering and the trip computer listed the following errors: "service power steering now" and "service advanced trac". I immediately took the car to the Ford dealer where they diagnosed the problem as being an internal electrical issue with the eps system. They stated this wasn't an issue that could be fixed other then replacing the whole power steering rack. The dealer is charging $1,854.52 for the job. I have looked up this issue online and it appears that many people have had this happen while driving. I wasn't driving the car at the time but the test did involve driving the car on a dynamometer up to speeds of around 60 mph. If the system failed then, it could have happened at anytime. I don't understand why the system shuts off automatically when it detects an issue. Driving the car, and suddenly loosing power steering is a scary concept. These systems seem to be unreliable and put the passengers and other vehicles at risk. When reading in the owners manual about these error codes it states that the system will shut off when it detects a fault. But this is not a "normal" problem for cars. With a hydraulic system this would never happen.
After traveling on the highway @ 60 miles per hr, the car lost acceleration speed and was slowing down. The check engine light and a wrench was shown on the dash board.the car would not work. After I turned it off and was able to restart but no sooner it happened again, unable to accelerate. This happened to me a few weeks ago on my way to work. I was traveling 40mph when I lost power and could not accelerate.
I was driving down the highway at 65 mph and heard what seemed like a loud pop and right away I noticed my car losing power and when I hit the gas the speedometer kept going down. Fortunately traffic was not too bad and I was able to pull off the road and call for a truck to tow me to the dealership. When they inspected the car they stated that I needed a new throttle body. The car gave absolutely no warning and had it been in different traffic conditions could have caused a serious accident.
While on my way out of town from columbia, mo to Chicago, il on 08/09/2013 when the first throttle problem started. While my husband and I were on the road driving 60mph, the wrench light came on and while on the highway the car slowed all the way down with my doing it. I had to hurry over to the side of the highway in order to not get into an accident. The state trooper for Missouri pulled behind us to find out what the problem was. We didn't know so we looked in our handbook. Then we noticed that it means that there was a problem with the throttle and to service it if the problem persist. During the week of 09/09/2013-0913/2013 while my husband was driving the same problem happened again. He took the car to the Ford dealership where we bought it and they stated that they have received complaints but no recall order. Our mechanic estimated the cost to fix the throttle issue to be between $500-$600. Today 09/18/2013 while on the highway to go to work, the car stalled and stopped on me 3 times. I find this unacceptable especially because this has been a constant complaint with other owner of the vehicle and no recall or reimbursement has been made as of yet.
