2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Engine light, advance trac light, ABS light, battery light, tire pressure monitoring system light, alarm light suddenly came on. Then dash went completely blank. Headlights went out, lost control of vehicle at high speed. Dash lights came back on stirring control of vehicle lost. All dash lights started flashing. Breaking system not working.
I was driving my vehicle one Saturday morning and the brake pedal went down to the floor and after I pumped the brakes a few times the brakes started to work again so I immediately called a mechanic to take a look at
My family financed our 2010 Fusion sel in September of 2011, was certified used with 7,900 miles, purchased with extended warranty as well. My mom and my sister drove the car for about 7 years, they loved it and had no issues with it. They passed it down to me in 2018 when I got my license, my mother told me how to take care of our cars and what not to do, we don't abuse our vehicles. The first major issue was the throttle body that completely went out after accelerating from a green light it felt like my transmission was going to fall out of my car, with the RPM jumping up and down, shifted horribly. I then drove my possessed car to the nearest dealer, the throttle body was replaced the same day in may of 2018 under warranty and worked fine ever since (sometimes). They said this is a common issue. Extremely leaky 17' rims causing multiple mornings where I woke up to a flat tire. Ford said nothing they can do even though it's the same stock rims since we've bought it (same problems even with new tires). Tire pressure sensor fault that's been faulty since 2018 especially in the cold, took it to the dealership and they claimed they fix it, but they didn't. and now I feel like my steering is going out, I sometimes lose power whenever I turn left, the orange stabilitrak/stability lights up on my dash and is a little rough, in April of 2020 I turned into my driveway turning left, my engine completely stalled, if I wouldn't have straightened out my steering I would have completely hit the corner of my porch. I'm afraid to drive this car on the freeway, both engine and steering issues? dealer says it's normal and that it's fine. Right.. not what carcomplaints.com says I'm 18 about to graduate and go to college in September, I currently have no job due to the quarantine, and might have to consider purchasing a new Fusion before my current car injures/kills me.
Car accelleration is sluggish/weak after car comes to complete stop. Poses real danger when entering traffic, especially left turns with oncoming traffic. Problem has been reported by several others. Cause is design defect in vehicle/battery age counter in car's computer. Only allows for one digit. Causes battery to stop working properly after car reaches 10 years of age. My car was purchased in aoril 2010. Had local auto shop reset counter to "0". (car has only 77,000 miles) now functions as intended. Copy of repair invoice attached. I will send copy to Ford Motor Company rquesting reimbursement after filing report here.
Vehicle is a 2010 Fusion hybrid. Vehicle hesitates for 1-3 seconds when accelerating from a stop. There is a delay because of what appears to be a failure of the hybrid drive system to provide adequate power. I also notice this during routine driving, although it is not a safety concern then. The hybrid power system has simply stopped providing the additional power required by the powertrain to operate properly. This is particularly problematic when pulling out of a side street onto a busy road. The car has enough power to get me into the middle of the road but then hesitates to accelerate properly for 2-3 seconds, presenting a danger to me and other cars. I am learning to compensate for this delay but this is safety concern for me and other drivers. Other drivers of the same model of similar age are reporting the same issues on forums such as "fordfusionhybridforum.com"
My 2010 Ford Fusion had the service power steering light come on while driving down the highway, and then the power steering went out and the service advancetrac came on. I called the dealership and even though my car has two open recalls for airbags and fuel tank, along with an extended one on my throttle body, they can't get my car in until next month. I've tried disconnecting the battery terminals, and replaced the battery in hopes that it would reset the computer as the car does not have a power steering pump and is controlled by a computer chip.
Delayed exclamation when I press the gas pedal and slowing down for no reason while driving on the highway. The tie rod breaks over and over again. I've had it fixed 5 times in one year
Bought used Ford Fusion on 9/16/19 from fred bean Cadillac- Buick in doyalstown pa. After about driving it for 950 miles on 10/04/19 an yellow wrench icon appeared on the dash board and the car seemed to lose power. The car was parked and the car was turned off, once the car was restarted the wrench icon disappeared. Made appointment with dealer where the car was purchased from at 7:30am on 10/05/19 to have the car looked at. Was told no error code was found, but later that same day while driving home around 2:00pm the wrench icon reappeared and the loss of power happened turning off from rt 332 (yardley-newton rd speed 55mph) on to stony hill rd speed 40mph. Once I go to a red light at stony hill and yardley langhorne rd intersection I turned car off, then restarted car and wrench icon disappeared.
Transmission fluid leaking bad from front of bell housing when in any gear. L/H axle seal went bad 3 years ago, fixed that been fine until this. A lot of tbs on this problem, time Ford did something about it.
I had a flat tire whail the tire was going flat the power steering went out and it seems to be a big problem with these cars the car was in motion when the power steering went out I was on a side street
Trans. Problem happening for a long time. Since 2015. Trans jumps out of gear, loses power and lurches. Experienced 3 near he ad on colisions when jumping out of gear. I have noticed scores of compaints online about this identical problem.all with vehical in motion.
Over the past 6 months my Ford Fusion's transmission has slowly begun to lose its shifting abilities. It first started with sluggish and jerky movement when put into drive and the gas pedal was pressed. Then it started slipping and jerking while driving down the road. There was no specific speed that it needed to be going. It increased to an extremely high rev before making a loud bang and hard shift into gear. As of yesterday, while driving down the highway, it slipped out of gear as I was slowing to a stop then wouldn't reengage 2nd or 3rd gear. I limped it down the road to the nearest exit into a parking lot where I stopped in a parking spot. I turned the vehicle off and let it sit for a while before turning it back on. When I attempted to back out, reverse would not engage. I pushed it out of the spot and was able to get it into drive, then a quarter mile down the road all drive gears went out. I was able to coast it into another parking lot where I shut it off and let it sit for about 15 min to cool and tried again. Nothing. I lost all gears in the car. I had to have it towed to my house, since taking it to a mechanic would just lead to them informing me of the same thing that all other complaints and forums have stated online about this issue. A transmission change for a minimum of $2500 and there's no recall on a very well documented and serious issue regarding Ford transmissions.
The transmission is slipping from 1st, 2nd and 3rd. And makes the car jerky and the car revs so high that it makes moving the car from a stand still a head ache meaning giving sufficient gap with the vehicle in front of me to avoid crashing into them. Manufacturers like Toyota have transmission that last more than 20 years and its really weird for a award wining car to slip transmission within ten years. Ford needs to issue a recall and get the car fixed as there is arund 563 ish known complaints and more than 1000 unknown complaints that are all caused by the transmission in the NHTSA page. NHTSA kindly do the needful in serving consumers their need for reliable and safe products to drive on the road.
We were driving the car and the car loss steering control and the powersteering assist fault came up on the dashboard and it is impossible to control and drive. Luckily someone did not get seriously hurt.
In response to free press news article from Sunday 7/14, I previously owned a 2010 Ford Fusion with the same transmission issues. Ford claimed they installed the a fix for the issue, but problems persisted. Vehicle completely lost power while on the freeway on multiple occasions. Please expand investigation to include Fusion.
Well for one Ford was supppse to have done transmission work on my car two years ago N now my car is doing the same thing. For example it started with when 8N park it rocks back and foward more the a inch in either direction. I seen where there was a recall on the transmission for that very problem but it was never fixed on my car. Second thing is there were a recall on my airbags, Ford had my car for 2 weeks N said they fix the airbag problem but that was a lie. I have plenty of recordings of the passenger airbags off light still coming on. So if U would be so kind and get these problems N recalls taking care of it would be great thanks..
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While the vehicle was parked, the contact experienced difficulty shifting the gear from park into reverse and the vehicle began to hesitate. On another occasion, while driving 30 mph and approaching a stop sign, the vehicle turned off, but was able to restart after several attempts. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal to the floorboard and the vehicle failed to respond initially. The contact heard an abnormal noise and the vehicle began to drive normally. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 148,000.
From around 30000 miles on I have had a. N intermittent problem with trans. Slipping between 2nd & 3rd? gears. Mentioned it to rutherford at least twice, was told they could find nothing wrong. Took car to desoto Ford dealer while still under extended warr was told it might be dirt in valve body and if taken out and nothing found entire cost would have been on me. I have looked online and found numerous similar complaints. Now trans is slipping very often. I feel this is a common problem and should have been taken care of under original factory warranty. The problem always occurred while driving.
'takata' I have looked up the problem with my Ford Fusion 2010 which is the electrical power steering and there is no recall on the vechile but so many people are having problems with it. The models after it have a recall but none for the 2010 make. I feel as if, there should be a recall on any and every vechile Ford makes. No matter the year or model. The manufacturer made the vechile and of its a problem that was not caused by customers but by the manufacturer then it should be fixed. Some people can't afford to fix problems that are so expensive and the charge of labor like myself! my vechile was stationary when the power steering light had come on.
