CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

I was driving one night leaving my aunt-??s house, as I-??m exiting her apartment complex I noticed my car was rolling into the car while my foot was on the brake. I started to pump the brakes and nothing happened. I put the car in reverse and i mashed the brake to floor so I could stop the car. Once I put the car back in drive to exit, I started to proceed down the street and I came to a stop sign but my car too entirely too long to stop. There were no lights on in the dash. There was brake fluid in the car. The brake pads were in perfect condition. The brakes failed without any warning. I have changed the brake pads and bled them. I have replaced the master cylinder. I found out that there isn-??t any issue with the booster. I replaced the ABS control module, nothing has changed. Still no brakes. I found out that this issue was fixed before I bought this car from the previous owner in late 2020 & it costed them about $1500 to fix. The car is not even worth that much. I did research and I found out that this is a common issue among 2010 Ford Fusions and there was a recall on the car back in December of 2019. Ford Motor Co. started sending letters out in January of 2020, obviously the recall window was not open very long. I contacted Ford about this issue and the only thing I was told was take it to the dealer and I-??m like how when I can-??t drive the car. Also, I-??ve called every Ford dealer to ask for an quote to see how much it is to fix the issue and I was told I cannot receive an quote unless they can physically look at the car. I really how Ford does another recall before someone gets killed in a crash or seriously injured. This is totally ridiculous and I am disgusted with car.

I was driving my 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid and as I was approaching a red signal light I applied pressure to my brakes and seen my dash alert me of my ABS system failing and my advanced Trac needs to be serviced due to my brakes not working properly I was almost involved in a serious collision. i had to pull on my e brakes to prevent injury, in result off I pulled off into the nearest lot and called a tow truck to take me and my vehicle to the dealership I was given a crazy repair charge and i was doing some research and i seen a recall for this issue, however i was advised that my VIN does not have any recalls. This is unsafe and needs to be addressed.

The brake pedal went almost all the way down before brakes engaged. The brakes did not seem as effective in stopping. There was a risk of rolling into traffic or crashing into another car because I could not stop. Several warning lights come on including messages to "inspect brake system" and "Service advancetrac". A ford dealership has inspected the car and recommends replacing the Hydraulic Control Unit and the ABS Module. They say it is not covered under any recall.

I got warning messages for my brake system and AdvanceTrac system which is the ECS in 2010 Ford Fusion. This resulted in an almost complete loss of braking power. For the second time in the past 4 months, I've gotten simultaneous brake warning lights and service advancetrac warning lights when travelling <15mph. It also happened once about 3 or so years ago. This has resulted in an almost complete loss of braking power. I fully depress the brake pedal and the car barely slows down. I had to pull the ebrake the first time so I didn't roll through a stop sign into an intersection. It is incredibly dangerous. What if I was going faster" What if there was heavy traffic, a child in the street? If I was in a parking lot" This is death or injury waiting to happen. After turning the car off and on again, the warning lights go away and the brake system is back to normal. I have not taken it to the dealer yet. There is a recall for 2006-2010 Ford Fusions for a sticking ABS valve but my car was not included in that recall. Ford needs to recall ALL 2010-2012 Fusions for this problem.

A sudden problem happened when to make the brakes on our 2010 Fusion Hybrid work the pedal had to be pressed all the way to the floor. No warning lights came on until the problem surfaced. The warning lights say to check the AdvanceTrac system and the Brake sytem. The car was suddenly unsafe to drive, because if we had to brake quickly we would not be able to do so. A local Ford Service Shop said the HCU and ABS systems need replacing and will cost at least $2,400. This issue is similar to one that was subject to a recall, but our vehicle was not included in that recall. The car is at the Ford shop awaiting parts for repair.

No break pressure. I haven't been able to drive the car for about 2 year. Spent to much money trying to get it fixed. Booster x 2, master cylinder x 2 and abs modulator. Fusion has 83000 miles.

Car is a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. With no prior warning, brakes went out and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor with almost no stopping power whatsoever. Dealer wants $2000 for ABS Module and HCU replacement. Ford has a warranty on this for some 2006-2010 models, so I don't know why my car is not covered under this warranty if it's happening to my car too.

Brake pedal go's soft and down to the floor after ant-lock brakes are activated. Dealer may have unstuck a valve when bleeding the brakes which temporarily fixed the issue until anti-brakes were activated again and the brakes were soft again.

When I went to deploy the brakes, they would not activate until I pushed the pedal hard and all the way to the floor. The dashboard lights then lit up indicating an ABS issue. The braking distance went from normal to 4-6 times further as a result. I almost hit the truck in front of me. This happens intermittently and without any notice. I called the local Ford dealership and asked about the situation. They said there was no recall on 2010 Ford Fusions for braking issues. So, they will not cover expenses related to any repairs. I researched recalls and found that the braking system in 2010 Ford Fusion is supposed to be covered under a recall. I also have not received any recall notice related to braking on my 2010 Ford Fusion, as part of the recall. The Ford internal reference number for this recall is 19S54. The NHTSA identifier is 19V904.

I recently took in my car for the soft pedal recall. I never had any of the issues that were affecting some however now, I am getting problems similar to the soft pedal. When stopping it feels like the brake goes in quite a few inches before actually engaging to slow the speed. This is become very dangerous with the recent snow, it's almost impossible to predict the correct pressure to slow down my speed without sliding. There are no warning lights or any indicators prior to the failure.

On Dec 6 this vehicle suddenly lost all braking power, even when the brake pedal was pushed to the floorboard, This happened immediately after the car was driven onto rough payment when exiting a service station after gasoline purchase. The driver was able to bring the vehicle to a stop at curbside without collision or injury. The pavement was dry (no rain) on the day of this incident, . The car was towed to our local ford dealer, . The service technician performed a brake inspection as specified in the repair manual and could not reproduce the problem. The mechanic did not inspect the antilock hydraulic control unit even though we requested such inspection at time of service, This incident is simlar to the hydraulic brake unit failure as described in NTSB recall campaign 19VY904000/ Safety Recall 19WS54. Eiigibility for this recall ended with cars that were manufactured through7/15/2019. Our vehicle was manufactured at THE SAME Hermnosillo, Mex with load date Q8/14;/2009, just missing the recall window by a few weeks. REQUESTED ACTION: EXTEND CLOSING DATE FOR RECALL WINDOW SO OUR DEFECTIVE BRAKES CAN BE REPAIRED ATB NO COST.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at 30 MPH and approaching a stop sign, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard before the vehicle came to a complete stop. The contact pulled into a parking lot, restarted the vehicle, and pumped the brake pedal several times for the brakes to function as needed. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently. The contact researched online and linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

ABS Valve failed - failure was exactly as described in Ford Fusion Recall 19S54 (extended braking period, unsafe ability to brake quickly, as brakes are depressed and then require further braking in order to stop vehicle). Thankfully, my 16 year old son mentioned the problem with decreased braking performance and immediately upon driving, I took it to be looked at because it was clearly not safe to drive. The ABS valve was detected as the problem, the recall was identified and it was towed to a Ford dealership to inspect. Upon running the VIN, they determined that though the vehicle was made in the same plant as the 19S54 recalled vehicles FOR THIS PART/ valve being stuck open, and being a 2010 Ford Fusion, it was not included in the recall. No one from Ford has been willing to even discuss resolution options. The car is currently undriveable because of the unsafe nature of the failure and the cost to repair is more than the value of the vehicle, putting undue burden on the owner for a known part failure, not to mention the known safety risk. I have talked to the Ford Customer Service department (Jessie: Employee #2079462) and Fuller Ford, Cincinnati, OH. No resolution or concern for the safety of this vehicle has been expressed by Ford leadership or locally, despite the danger this car presents with this part failure (that has already been acknowledged by Ford and NHTSA)

This link is to a video of my 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid that chronically experiences break system failure. This problem seems to be an electrical malfunction as the break system resumes working when the the alerts disappear from the dash. I purchased this Ford in December 2020 and began experiencing this problem in January 2021. This has been an ongoing issue for me and I have taken the Fusion Hybrid to Sunnyvale Ford once for this issue this year without a successful solution to what the malfunction is for my car. After researching this problem online, it was found thousands of fusions are experiencing this problem under a recall for the hydraulic unit for the breaking system. Ford continues to say my vehicle's vin doesn't have a break system recall. However, this very dangerous break system failure malfunction continues to resurface and remains a safety issue. Please see the video of my break system failure in the link below: https://photos.app.goo.gl/pmi7MMFC8fS81Ab56 [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Brakes stopped working, pedal went to floor, ABS warning appeared. Took it to repair shop, replaced front and rear pads and rotors, but brakes still did not work, ABS warning again. Took it to dealer who confirmed faulty ABS control unit. Dealer said this car is not covered by a recall of same or similar part in late 2019 as this car is a hybrid and the recalled ones are not. Brakes now work but without power assist. Car has 100,000 miles on it.

Vehicle has less than 100,000 miles and is exhibiting symptoms of a brake issue exactly as described in recall #19V904000. Have had vehicle examined and diagnosed at professional mechanic who determined that all likely causes of issue including master cylinder and air in system, were not the problem. Ford dealer says this vehicle is not under recall but it continues to exhibit the exact symptoms as described. The brake pedal is mushy with excessive travel prior to engaging. In a panic stop situation would likely not stop the vehicle.
