2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

Brakes have on two occasions got weaker. When pressing on the pedal, it went almost to the floor and was "mushy" feeling. I'm an engineer and did some research and it appears to be in the ABS hydraulic system. I did some testing and could not get it to repeat, including some off road driving putting the car into skids, etc. Neither could my mechanic find the issue. He had heard of this issue and said it is near impossible to diagnose. We are original owners with 130,000 miles. The mechanic replaced all four calipers (new shoes, etc) and ensured they were no sticking.these two incidents occurred for the first time this past year.
Brakes went to floor. Took in to Ford dealer, said it needed an ABS module. Had them replace that, it was almost $1800, then brakes went to floor again and then told us it needed a new booster, that was another $800!! brakes went to floor again, then took back and said can find nothing wrong. Cannot trust driving this car! seems to be a very common issue on these cars. This is a company car I have had to deal with and felt that this issue needed to be reported.
After the ABS engages due to braking on a slippery or bumpy surface the brake pedal will lose power to brake the car effectively. The pedal will have to be pushed to the floor and the car will only slightly slow. This has happened intermittently 2 or 3 times over the course of a year. The problem seems to correct itself after 5 to 10 minutes of driving and "pumping" the brakes. The local Ford dealer claims it is a faulty hydraulic control unit. A prior event happened with the same result when just beginning to drive on a flat, smooth surface.
When driving brakes became very weak almost to the floor, we replaced the brakes with still no good pedal. Then we replaced the master cylinder, once it was replaced it would not bleed, and still no brakes. We called the Ford dealer and was advised the Fusion were difficult to bleed once master cylinders were replaced. We sent it out for diagnostics at the Ford dealer and were charged $98. They called and said the system needed to be bleed before they could give us an exact answer of what was wrong and the would be an additional $100. They called a few days later and said it needed a master cylinder. We told them we just had replaced it. They said maybe it was a faulty part, so we picked up the car exchanged the part and still have the same issue. Called back to the Ford dealer and was told the only other thing it could be was the hcu and that was about $1600 to change. So 2 tow bills, and $200 later we still have no brakes. After extensive research we have seen this is a very common issue with the Ford Fusion and this is a very dangerous issue. Ford should issue a recall ! losing brakes while driving is dangerous ! I would like a Ford rep to contact me !
I was braking across rough (experience 1: March 2017) and icy (experience 2: December 2017) terrain when my ABS reacted to the situation. After both experiences, my brakes became "squishy" and I was unable to get a complete immediate stop. It took longer to brake, and I had to push the pedal to the floor in order to come to a complete halt. After putting the car into park, and turning the engine off and back on again, the squishy brakes remained. The only way to get a full complete stop now is to pump the brakes continuously as I am braking. It seems that when the ABS pump goes off, the open valve gets stuck open causing the brake fluid to circulate through the pump. Pumping the pedal helps, but does not solve the problem.

In my 2010 Ford Fusion sport, my brakes go soft and spongy any time the ABS gets activated. Afterward, I have to push the brake pedal all the way to the floor to get any braking. If I pump the brakes several dozen times, it comes back to normal, but the main problem is when it unexpectedly goes spongy while driving. It is a collosal safety issue. I have had the dealership attempt to fix this several times by bleeding the brake line and changing out all of the brake fluid, all to no avail. On several Ford forums, it is allegedly a known issue with the hydraulic control unit. I am going to have it replaced, but Ford hasn't seen fit to issue a recall yet.
Following a braking event that engaged the ABS system, the brakes felt soft or spongy. After depressing the pedal fully a few times, the issue seemed to resolve. Another ABS event occurred a few weeks ago, and this time depressing the pedal did not resolve the issue. The soft brake feeling has persisted for weeks. When depressing the brake pedal, there is initially a small and brief deceleration of the car, followed by at least 1 inch of brake pedal travel that does not seem to cause any further braking. Finally, when the pedal is almost fully depressed, the brakes engage and the car decelerates. The resistance felt in the during the travel of the brake pedal seems to change as the car warms up, or as the outside temperature changes. The result is that brakes feel unreliable and unpredictable every time they engage. I believe this to be associated with the problem being investigated as a part of NHTSA action number: PE16017.
I was driving home after picking up my 9yr old from school, when vehicle in front of me came to an abrupt stop, I had to swerve right to avoid hitting them and hit my brakes"at this point my vehicle shut off completely in the middle of traffic I had to restart it then drove about 10 miles when my car started chimming and the service power stearing now and advance track control warnings came on I had no control of my vehicle I could not turn the wheel at all it was locked I managed to pull to the side of the road with extreme effort I thought I was going to break something trying to turn the wheel just slitely to get to side of road car had to be towed it undrivable and completely unsafe my son could have been seriously injured.Ford has recalled these cars for the same issue in 2011 and beyond why if they have the same exact function and parts not recalling these 1500$ to fix that I don't have, ive taking great care of this vehicle but have had nothing but problems the same day this happened I received a factory recall for the purge canister and gas tank, the car when I bought it was burning up calipers wheels were coming loose break pads shearing off and rotor after rotor pad after pad and 3 calipers and a battery later because break fluid shot out of my reservoir onto my battery shorting it out conducting a straight feed from pos to neg.now this this is so dangerous if I was a less exsperianced driver this could have been tragic!!!is that really what it takes for this billion dollar company to be held accountable I mean we already payed for the vehicle least they can do is fix the problems they no have existed for along time before people die.
I was driving to go pick up my yound boys at school went around curve my power steering went put and my service power steering now light came on and my service advance trac light came on no warning just went out I almost hit a tree I call Ford place they say I jave to come up there let them put it on machine that is $107 and then tellme whats wrong and they can fix it but the part that may be needed is 900 dollars im a single mom and dnt have that kind of money ive had this car little ova 1 yr I looked up recalls and back in 2015 they recalled Ford Fusion for power steering problems but the owners of 2010 Fusion that were complaining was not recalled 2010 and older have electric power steering and if this many ppl are complaining why havent they recalled them are they waiting til a person gets killed what if its a child all they are gonna do is say im so sorry but they know about the problem why cant we get our cars fixed they made them with faulty equipment
Advance tracking lights came on and brakes and was told that its a module defect which only can be replaced by Ford. This could lovk up my brakes and possibly cause accident or death.
After the car activates ABS, when ABS is disengaged the brakes are "soft". when depressed, they feel like normal resistance, then are soft and finally stop the car after fully depressing the pedal. I hit a small washboard bumpy stretch of road while depressing the brake, ABS kicked in and immediately went off. Brakes then soft.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving 40 mph, the ABS warning indicator illuminated without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (coggin Ford of deland, Florida) where the ABS module was replaced under part number: "be5Z*2C215". the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 28,000. Updated 08/22/17 updated 09/06/2017
Takata recall my air bag sensor light came on air bags never deployed in my vehicle in an accident I was in in June of 16.I purchased this vehicle with multiple issues the dealership that sold me the car new it was under recall and never fixed the car.it was in and out of shop for ABS, gas leak, accelerating by itself now I've burned up 3 calipers keep burning break pads gas is never accurate and there's no light but it still pulls code for ABS, also it went in for factory recall and recall was never performed.more than fed up and sick of spending my $.
When in motion as well as when stopped, the brake pedal becomes soft and I have to press the pedal down to the floor to fully engage brakes. It is difficult to control deceleration because the pedal resistance changes in the middle of braking, often increasing the stopping distance. When in motion and decelerating, the brake pedal resistance will suddenly become softer and the car will stop decelerating unless I press the pedal in farther. When stopped with my foot on the pedal, the brakes will become soft and the car will begin to roll forward unintentionally. I have to press the pedal all the way to the floor to keep the car from rolling forward. This issue worries me when I am driving in areas with many stop signs and traffic lights.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving various speeds over a small bump in the road, the brake pedal extended to the floorboard without warning. The contact pulled over, shut off the vehicle, pumped the brake pedal, and restarted the vehicle. Once restarted, the brake pedal returned to normal. The vehicle was taken to SAS tire and auto (located at 850 West bristol, Indiana, 46514), but the failure was unable to be duplicated and an error code could not be found. The contact had the brakes, rotors, and pads repaired by an independent mechanic (chuck's auto garage). The failure recurred two more times while driving over a bump in the road. The manufacturer was notified and provided case number: Cas-12555603. No further assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. Updated 08/24/17
Drive my car so I was in motion when I started to lose my brakes they went to the floor and I almost hit a car. Took it to mr tires to bleed air out of the brake line got it back from mr tires and I was in motion with my car and started losing my breaks, had a hard time stopping at a traffic light went through the light a little luckly the light had not turn yet for the other cars that were stop. Took it back to Mr. Tires and they tried to solve the problem, still do not have my car they need to order the special part the ABS module do not know how much this is going to cost because they also have to have a special tech come in and make sure it is calibrated right, . why did Ford not put this on a recall there are a lot of complaints about this part some one is going to get hurt or killed with this happing to the Ford vehicles
The brakes in my Ford Fusion 2010 have been going loose while driving. The pedal would go all the way to the bottom suddenly I almost had an accident several times. Two mechanics told me it's a faulty ABS pump. I parked my car because I'm afraid I would kill myself if I drive it on the highway. This part is very expensive to fix please investigate this issue because it's occurring with a lot of Fusion owners.
Parking brake freezes in snowy weather when applied making it impossible to release. Reported to dealer while under warranty and they said they "fixed" it but it still freezes. Only way to free it is to drive and cause heat build up free the brake. This causes a safety hazard in snowy conditions because only one rear wheel is locked down which will cause the car to skid sideways while trying to get the brake released. This has happened on numerous occasions and now I just don't use the brake which causes another safety issue when parking on hills.
