ABS system engaged on a gravel road when braking. Brakes are now soft after ABS system engaged. Like so many other Fusion owners, this is a hydraulic control unit malfunction.
Spongy brake pedal, brakes seem to start to grab then pedal goes straight to the floor. Happens all the time and I'm scared that this will cause an accident. Car has 93K miles. Will never buy another Ford
Have been dealing with a brake issue for a few months. Took it to a mechanic who replaced the brakes pads. After they were replaced, the brakes still felt off. I would have to push the brake pedal down all the way to the floor for it to stop completely. Took it to a second mechanic who then replaced the master cylinder. Still had the same issue. When I returned to the mechanic, he looked over the air and stated there was nothing else wrong with it. Finally I went to dunphy Ford where the greeter stayed he already knew what the problem was before I finished explaining the complete issue. He assured me it was the hcu (which of course was almost $1000 to replace) so I had it replaced. After picking up the car it felt fine for the first two days. The. The issue started happening again. When I returned the car to Ford, they told me it was the rear rotors. I asked how could they miss that when they replaced the hcu, there was no answer. The rotors were replaced. That night I went to pick up my car. After driving off, my brakes now made a very loud squealing sound and sort of clanking sound every time I hit a small bump on the road coming from the right side of my car. Well I checked every tire and found one of the lug nuts was loose on the front passenger side of my car. Called them and had he car & brakes looked over once again. This time they tightened the lug nuts and 'buffed' the rotors. The brakes still make a pretty loud sound when I brake but no one can seem to figure out the issue. Not even Ford. I can send in invoices and receipts if needed
Issue has occurred multiple times since I have owned this vehicle to now. Whenever the ABS system engages (hard braking to due snow/ice or obstruction avoidance), immediately following that the brake pedal becomes incredibly spongy or non-existent and braking becomes very difficult without pumping the brake pedal or engaging the hand brake. I've had the pads, rotors, rear calipers, and slide pins replaced and the system flushed and inspected multiple times. I have found that if you pull over ans shut the car off for a few minutes and restart it tends to work until you have the same issue come up..

Brakes go nearly to the floor when pressing brake pedal before engaging and stopping vehicle. Spongy. Replaced master cylinder with new, no help. Replaced ABS hydraulic unit with used unit, and no help, but suspect the replacement unit is faulty also. Vehicle does not stop well.
Break pedal becomes spongy after hitting a pothole. Currently at the dealership they are trying to replace the master break cylinder, but that didn't work. The next move is to replace the mcu. I have read multiple similar reports here to mine. I'm very concerned this is a factory defect that is revealing itself to be dangerous and costly to Ford consumers.
My brakes go out almost completely when there is the slightest bump that I might hit on the road. Firestone has replaced the brakes, brake fluid, and master cylinder and the brake pedal still goes to the floor. The research I did shows that the problem is the ABS module. I've found hundreds of people in online forums with this problem. Why is there not a Ford recall with this problem?
I had been complaining to Ford mechanics of the local dealership here in los angeles of this braking-problem since sometime around 2014! I had explained several times that when the vehicle would be in motion (driving the car) and I would be passing through a rough section of street (many pot-holes) and would need to brake due to traffic, and then I would lose pressure on my braking-pedal. This has happened several times over the past five-years (at least I recall 6 times)'one of those times I almost had a big accident, luckily I was driving on a non-high-traffic street and I was able to steer to the side of the street where no-cars were parked'luckily. So, in some of this occasions I took the car to the local Ford dealership (quick lane tire & auto center that works in conjunction with the local Ford dealership) and explained the situation about the braking problem. 'when driving the car and going through a rough patch of the street (uneven street with potholes and other possible street holes) and would need to brake, the pedal would lose pressure and go almost to the floor''so they would only adjust the brakes and that was it. 'this past May 4 2019, it happened again, going through a rough patch of the street I had to brake and the brake pedal lost pressure (to the floor)!! lots of discussions in regards to this problem seem to point to the hcu ABS loosing pressure when going through rough sections of a street and applying the brakes. However, at this point we still do not know if Ford Motor Company will ever address this problem (huge dangerous problem)! do we have to wait for someone to be killed out there?
This issue has occurred multiple times since I have owned this vehicle from 2011 to now. No matter what parts I throw at my car, nothing seems to solve this issue.
Driving through town on a sunny day when the light in front of me turned red. I applied the brakes and went over a small bump. After the bump the brake pedal went to the floor. The vehicle would not stop in time and I was forced to roll through the intersection. I was terrified. Thankfully, I did not cause an accident, but the brake pedal remained spongy. It feels like it has about 30% braking power. I had a total brake replacement less than 1000 miles ago. Pads, rotors, bled the lines, the whole 9 yards.
The first time this happened was 3-4 years ago. My wife was braking at a stop light and hit a small pothole in which the break petal went all the way to the floor and she was able to come to a full stop even though it took a lot longer to do so. She pulled over and I had to pick her up and took the car into a local break repair chain. By the time they were able to check it out the breaks were working fine again. When we described the issue they could not find any reports of this on the internet. I believe this was the first time the break fluid was changed since the locations indicated wet or dirty break fluid can cause these symptoms. This happened a few more times to my wife and she decided she would no longer drive the car. I then started driving and again in a similar scenario in which I was breaking and ran over a manhole cover the breaks went to the floor and was difficult to stop the car. I again took it to another break specialist franchise and they could not find an issue with the car or on the internet although the breaks pedal has become soft and has remained that way. Break fluid was changed again for being dirty. My breaks have continued to be soft and will replicate the issue when braking and hitting a bump but appears to be only when the bump hits the front right wheel. I need to get my break pads replaced now and decided to research this issue again and I am finding that this is a very common problem. Why hasn't Ford recalled this product or doing anything to make it right with their customers.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the ABS failed and the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. The vehicle was taken to baxter Ford South (9203 S 145th St, omaha, ne 63138) where it was diagnosed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The contact stated that this was the second time the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the same failure. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was currently at the dealer being repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.
When the ABS kicks in during a hard brake on slippery surface afterwards the brake pedal depresses to the floor which makes stopping very difficult. This is not the first time this has happened but unlike the other times my pedal has not come back on week # 2 of brake pedal going to the floor. This is a safety hazard and obviously an ongoing problem with the 09 Fusion. When will we get a recall? does someone have to die before this is addressed.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. While driving at an unknown speed, the brake pedal was applied, but failed to respond. The brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed and the ABS and traction control warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the speed sensor caliber and brakes needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 135,000.
Brakes go to the floor, during stopping the car when: Hitting a pot hole while turning and braking, another car caused me to slid into a rut while braking, breaking on snow and ice.
After an ABS braking event, caused by braking on a slippery surface, the brake pedal goes soft, "going to the floor, " and the amount of force required to stop the car increases significantly.
While driving down the road I applied my brakes and the pedal started to move in a normal motion then vibrated and went to the floor. This almost made me rear end the car in front of me, I had to swerve to miss it. My brakes have been soft ever since. Upon looking on the internet I see Ford knows about this but still does nothing. This is a issue that makes the car unsafe to drive and I think it should be recalled.
