we took our car back to Capital Ford in Raleigh NC about this 2 times, and it was a certified pre owned vehicle at the time of purchase, and under warranty, then each time we took it back to them, they said they couldn't detect a problem, now it is getting worse, we are senior citizens on a fixed income and now we have no money to fix it and we are still paying on it. Fusion SE 2.3L

  • Manual transmission
  • 78,000 miles

Transmission going out again. Had car towed to dealer and they held the car 3 days before saying they could do nothing but completely replace transmission. This car is only 4 years old and needs a whole new transmission, not just a clutch a whole transmission. Cost estimates upwards $4K.

Fusion SE 2.3L

  • Manual transmission
  • 65,000 miles

Transmission started to slip out of third, so I took to dealership I bought it from. They said there was just a slight adjustment needed and I should be good to go. The next week it started again and the dealer said they didn't have a slot and that I would have to pay $100 for them even to look at it this time. I found a mechanic to look at it and he said clutch plate needed replacing and that the dealer should have said that from the beginning. He replaced and I was driving in 2 days.

This car not only shifts violently while driving, especially into second gear, but it will not go into reverse. I have noticed this issue especially on cold days, when I put the car into reverse it jerks extremely hard continuously to the point of my car whole car is bouncing and it will not kick into gear. I have to continuously try to get it to kick into gear and most mornings I cannot get it to do so. If the car is warm it's less of an issue getting it to kick into reverse. My solution has been to back into parking spaces when the car is warm. This issue is extremely annoying and inconvenient. I also smell burning transmission fluid everyday.

I have yet to take my car into the shop, i just haven't had the time, but I have a feeling my transmission might need to be repaired or replaced.

Fusion SE 2.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 44,000 miles

I bought the car in April 2012, "certified" by the dealer, and had monthly payments on the car. I felt the transmission slipping and took it in mid-December to be checked. Was told the transmission guy was out, so I took it back the next week. The service dept. agreed that the transmission was going out. I left it there on the 20th of December, and didn't get it back for nearly 4 weeks. Even allowing for people off on the holidays, it was in their shop for a very long time. The last week Chino Hills Ford had the car, they agreed to pay for a rental car. I picked the car up on a Saturday, and on the drive home heard a loud, metallic "clunk". I made it home, but discovered that that the car wouldn't shift.

The transmission slips, jerks, shifts roughly. When it gets below 10 degrees and the car sits for about 8 hours, shifting into reverse causes the car to severly jerk backwards. Problems started at about 800 miles and are still going strong at 41,000 miles. While car was under warranty, two dealerships said the transmission slipping, jerking, and shifting roughly were normal and there was nothing to fix. Same story on the problem with reverse when under 10 degrees. Other than the transmission problems, I like the car.

However, after reading about all the similar and other problems people have had with the Fusion, I am debating selling the car. My dad (and intuition) warned me not to buy a Ford, but I thought I would give them a chance--my mistake. I will never buy another Ford, no matter how good the price. I should have stuck with Toyota and Honda.

Fusion SE 4.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 133,000 miles

So I have a 2008 Ford Fusion SE 2.3L 4cly vehicle and about a month ago I went to start my car and my transmission and check engine light both come on at the same time. I took it to a shop and they said it was pulling random codes, unrelated to the trans and engine. They clear the codes and as soon as they did, my car is running like it normally has been. So about 2 weeks later the same issue happens again. Take it back to the shop and the same thing. About a week ago it happens yet again, take it to a completely different repair shop, they pull the codes and show that it is a shift solenoid that is bad. I have the solenoid changed for $200 and still nothing, same problems. Lights go back on and my car is running like hell! I ended up having to replace the transmission. I've taken good care of my car, had the fluid changed, get my oil changes done on a regular basis and this! From the start though it always seemed like the trans had issues from the day I bought it. Whenever I would put it into drive or reverse it always jerked right into gear and was ready to go. I don't know who designed the transmission for this car but they did not do a very good job. The transmissions on these cars do not last, even when you take care of them! I keep reading horror story after horror story about the transmissions slipping. I wish I would have did more research when I was looking for a new car b/c I wouldn't have chosen this car if I had known about all the transmission issues.

Ford - why have you not put a recall on this vehicle????

Fusion SE 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 89,285 miles

My car had 86000 miles on it mostly highway. I always had my oil change and transmission fluid changes done on time according to the manual and also all tune ups and regular maintenance. As I was driving ob the highway my transmission slipped and there was a loud clunking noise. I brought my car to the dealership to get checked out and they told me that I needed a new transmission. I asked if that was covered because my car was only three years old. They basically laughed in my face and gave me the cost of the repair/new transmission. They said I was better off buying a new car but they would only give me a small amount for my car because of the problem. I can not believe that this happened and it's not the first time I heard about this car having that problem but there is NO recall!!!!!!!!!

My 2008 Ford Fusion has been slipping/jerking when initially stepping on gas pedal. Three days ago it would not go into gear at all. Had to have it towed. Went to the dealer the next day. They report no problems with the vehicle! Unable to reproduce the problem. Give me a break! I'm so fed up at this moment!
