This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Unintended acceleration while slowing down (rolling with my foot feathering the brake) to park in a stall at my local post office my 2008 Ford Fusion instantly accelerated jump the curb crossed the sidewalk and hit the building. The car continued to rev spinning the front wheels until I shut it off with the key. I verified there is nothing blocking the pedal and the floor mat is secure and clear of the accelerator. I had my foot full hard on the brakes and was unable to stop the car. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
Car acceleration was uncontrollable, unable to accelerate, stalling during acceleration. Car will accelerate to 40 and then drop to 0 in a matter of seconds, all while accelerator is being pressed.
The problem initially began because I had to brake hard to avoid an accident on the freeway and the brakes failed. After restarting the vehicle the brakes went back to normal. A week later as I was driving down a street, I braked normally to pull in to a business parking lot and the brakes failed almost completely. The pedal went down to the floor and would not stop the vehicle in a safe distance. Also, they had a spongy feel. They would not properly grip until I turned the car off and then on again. Had there been another vehicle in front of me I would have hit them, or if this happened on a local freeway here in houston, tx it could be potentially fatal. After researching the problem, I learned that many other individuals have had the same exact issue. The problem appears to be a faulty ABS modulator.
While driving the vehicle lurched, lost power. Wrench lit up on dashboard. Had to pull off road, turn off car. Waited 5 minutes, proceeded with drive. No further incident occurred. Took to dealership and was told the repair would exceed in excess of $900. Was told the PCM or throttle body needs to be replaced.if there is a known issue with an extended warranty but not our VIN number, why was that warranty not extended" and what about all the people driving these cars with this problem has anyone been hurt yet" if Ford doesn't want to pay for the fix they should at least give people a warning regarding the issue.
Was in 4th gear, all of a sudden, the speed started to increase without me touching the peddle. Shifted into neutral, RPM's started to rev, all of sudden, RPM's dropped and the car shut off while I was on a main road.

My car wouldn't accelerate, then my check engine light comes on. Within 20 my car completely shuts off. Had to tow it to a mechanic, to tell me the computer system in my is burning up the coils in my engine. I called the dealership to see if there was a recall on this, and there was not. In fact as I look on the internet I have similar stories about the exact same problem. I told the dealership that and there was nothing they could do. Also on this site I reading how some of them the dashboard curls up, mine is also doing that. I bought this car brand new, just paid it off and this happens. I even finance through Ford, you think they would try to help.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 35 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the indicator remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not included in the voluntary recall for NHTSA campaign number: 13N03 (throttle body). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
Car was a loaner from local car dealer during work on my car. During drive in residential area the accelerator stuck causing loss of control and jumping curb, hitting street sign, retaining wall, light poles and finally a house. From police report: "there was tire scuff and skid from front right wheel/tire in road indicating a power-brake wheel spin. At point of rest wheel appeared to continue to spin because it dug into the ground." No citations given, car was totaled.
On 2/17/2014 this vehicle experienced a "limp mode" condition. The vehicle was on a high speed road and was able to be safely removed to back streets. The vehicle would not accelerate beyond 20mph. The vehicle was put into park, shutdown and then the key put into the on position paused and started. Problem seems to be resolved. In November the vehicle experienced two situation. 1. limp mode - was unknown at the time so the floor mats were removed 2. acceleration - the vehicle appears to accelerate on its own. Not from a stand still by while in motion.
Throttle body needs to be replaced. While driving at highway speeds the vehicle lurched, lost power and acceleration. Wrench lit up on dashboard. Had to pull off freeway, turn off car. Waited 5 minutes, proceeded with drive. No further incident occurred. Took to dealership and was told the repair would exceed in excess of $700. If there is a known issue with an extended warranty, why was that warranty not extended to us?
Throttle unresponsive on left hand turn at intersection. No power but engine idles. Throttle body replaced under warranty. Now several years later, the throttle body has failed twice at highway speeds of 55mph. Car rapidly decelerates. Transmission disengages.
I was driving down the road with cruise control set to 60 mph when the wrench light came on and I had limited power. I then pulled to the side of the road and had to turn the car completely off. Restarted the car and everything was fine so I thought. It keeps happening. One of my friends told me that Ford has been having this problem so I looked it up and sure enough there are many that has had this same problem. I am filling this out in hopes to not only get my vehicle fixed but to also save a life! I have a little one that rides everywhere with me. This is a safety issue that needs to be fixed immediately!
I started my car and it sounded & seemed normal. However, after driving less than 2 miles, my engine suddenly decelerated and the rpms dropped dramatically. I tried to accelerate and it would not increase speed. I was able to get off the road safely. I had to have my car towed. The mechanic determined that the problem was due to a faulty power train control module which impacts the ignition coils and the estimated cost of repair is $2100! one of my ignition coils was melted. Ford has issued a technical service bulletin on this issue, however, they do not deem this a safety issue! cars that just stop running or decelerate quickly is most definitely a safety issue. I can think of many scenarios where this issue would cause injury or perhaps even death. Had I been on a freeway or driving at a greater speed where there was more traffic, I could certainly have ended up in an accident with another vehicle. I researched this concern and found that I am not alone and there have many others affected by the same exact situation. Ford is of the opinion that this should be the responsibility of the car owner and they do not hold themselves accountable. I understand how warranties work and I realize that cars age. However, this issue has nothing to do with wear and tear or age. This is a faulty piece of equipment that is causing a safety issue when it hampers a vehicle's ability to continue in a forward motion at a normal rate of speed. Any help you can provide on this issue would be appreciated.
Taking off on coming into our garage car suddenly accelerated. Very hard to slam on brakes. Almost hit house. Very nervous and worried. Need to have this repaired immediately.

While having his foot on the brakes he pulled the floor mat back with his foot and got the pedal became unstuck. The engine was still revving excessively. He does not know if the floor mat caused the pedal to stick. The vehicle was then taken into the dealer where they didn't diagnose the failure. No repairs were made. The failure mileage was 37009 and the current mileage was 38001.
1. came up to a red light and pressed my brake. Fusion immediately speeded into the intersection through the red light. Fusion acted like it was possessed. I was struck by oncoming traffic. Fusion was totaled. 2. happened week earlier, was going to report it next oil change week away. 3. nothing, car scrapped by insurance co.
