December was second time brakes disappeared. First time during last winter, when applied brake hard and abs system bounced up and down. Later brakes were spongy. Mechanic reported he reset them according to specs, and bled the brakes. Worked until same problem arose. This time he suggested call National Ford number and file complaint. They seem to reset themselves, but I'm concerned that others have had same problems and in more dangerous events. Bought this car new, and have never had any other problem with it. Great car.

After the ABS goes on the brakes are worthless. this car is dangerous to drive. I have had brakes replaced. and have had 2 dealers tell me that there is nothing wrong with master cylinder. It has gone back to good braking after a week or two a couple times, but I had the abs go on the other day and it is not returning to good braking. I am scared of the car as it is a death trap.

January 2015 I was driving my kids to school on a slippery icy morning. As soon as I tried to stop, the ABS kicked in and that's when I noticed the car would not stop until I slammed my foot to the floor. It still did not stop fast but rather extremely slow. After that, the brakes remained spongy for hours. I turned on my flashers and babied the car all the way home. It was very nerve racking knowing you can't stop the vehicle. It would have been very easy to slam into another vehicle.

My husband checked the brake fluid and thought it was "a little low" so he topped it off. It worked fine for awhile until the next time I had to stop quickly in the rain! After that, spongy brakes again. I have to pull off and pump the brakes before they return to "normal". Every time I need the ABS to engage, that's when the problem occurs. I have taken it to my mechanic and he hooked it to the computer but nothing shows up as wrong. The local Ford garage hasn't heard about this problem either. Whatever! I am ready to trade the car in. I was going to give it to my kids who are learning to drive but now I wouldn't dream of it.

On Oct 3, 2015 I was pulling onto my street at about 15-20 miles and had to slow abruptly upon turning. The road condition was dry but on some loose gravel. The brake pedal went to the floor and now I have a loose/spongy brake pedal and the car does not stop easily. I have new brakes in the last 3-4 months. This happened a couple times over the last 8 months while turning and braking and running over a small pot hole. The brake pedal went to the floor and became loose/spongy for a couple days but then returned to normal. I had the brake system checked by a mechanic and nothing was found wrong. After this third incident, today October 5, 2015, I had the car inspected by a different mechanic and they were puzzled as to what would be causing the issue. They bled the brake system of all air and was not able to correct the problem with the brakes. They are suggesting to have the master cylinder and brake booster replaced. After researching the internet, there seems to be many similar issues with this 2008 Ford Fusion model. I called Ford Customer service at 5:01pm CT today (Oct 5, 2015) and explained to the lady my brake issue. She checked my VIN# for recalls, in which she said there were none.

I hate Ford, but beggars can't be choosers especially when you're in college. The first time I noticed my brakes were getting spongy was about a month ago, they then soon after (about an hour or so) went back to normal. Today 4/28/14 I was driving to work and was exiting to the service road from I-35 in Lewisville Tx and was traveling at a good rate-65-70 mph and was slowing down. I get to the crest of the hill to go downward and my brakes get really spongy and soft. I then proceeded about a 1/4 mile pumping my brakes to engage them but that did very little as I had to pump them vigorously numerous times and almost rear ended a semi going about 40 mph. I then slammed on my brakes as hard as I could to gain more control.

The car finally slowed down enough so that I could make a turn but they didn't react like a car's brakes should when forced down with a heavy foot, no skidding or noise from the tires at all just a graceful slow down. I then take it to the dealer after work and the first guy says there is definitely something wrong with the brakes, either the master cylinder or there is air in the line. I rent a car from Hertz and get home. Around 3:30pm I get a call from the dealer, a different guy leaves me a voice mail, not the guy I initially talked to in person saying the car is fine and I don't need to worry about it. Whatever!!!!

Hopefully telling them that I've reported and seen numerous problems with this model will make the dealer wise up and recheck his work, there is definitely something wrong with it. I've read numerous brake problems with this car on this site, neither one sounds pocket friendly. This is a safety issue and needs to be addressed quickly!!!!!!
