I was driving to work and all of a sudden my car went crazy, had a terrible misfire and barely made it to work. Once I got to work, which luckily is a dealership, not a Ford one but none the less a great shop. I had one of the techs check it out, the pcm had over 20 codes. Mind you this car had never had a code since bought brand new, I have all maintenance records to verify. All codes referred to ignition coils and a faulty pcm. The tech removed the coils and found 2 of the 6 had burst and the others had a distinctive odor like burning electrical. The tech replaced the two damaged coils first and found out the pcm was shorted out and all coils would have to be replaced as well as the pcm. This was a mighty expensive repair and took 2 weeks to get done due to the Ford dealership had to order a pcm.
