Transmission on vehicle is not good at all... there are many consumers that are having this same issue as 50,000 miles sna above. There are many complaints on the web and in forums on the 2006 Ford Fusion. The car will shake while driving and also it will switch gears on its own as well as the gear will get stuck. This is unsafe and very unsafe when on the highway. Has had the problem fixed and the vehicle had began having the same problems and much worse.

I have a 2006 Ford Fusion that has developed a transmission problem. It has been diagnosed as a valve body defect with a service bulletin dating back to 2001. I first contacted the dealership to investigate the problem in December 2008, but the transmission department was closed (on a Saturday). My mileage at that time was 35129 (well within warranty period). I wasn't able to make it back until Sept. Of '09 for evaluation, and they just did a software upgrade. Back again with same problem in Nov. '09 when they indicated the valve body from tsb dated 08/24/01. It has nearly caused me to have several accidents because at random times, the transmission pops into neutral whether on the highway, turning a corner, or accelerating - then pops back into gear, causing the car to buck violently. Cars behind me have nearly rammed into my car because of this sudden failure of my transmission. I feel this should be a recall and corrected by Ford corporate. This problem has occurred on several occasions. I have documented some of the more sever incidences. The latest incidences were yesterday, 3/30/10. I called the local dealership as well as Ford corporate, but they say the problem is not under warranty.

I own a 2006 Ford Fusion and the key will not come out of the ignition. I have researched the problems on Ford's forums and many, many people have had this same problem and explain that removing the silver ring on the shifter knob will fix the problem. However, I don't want to do this and have my car roll down my driveway and kill someone.

I own a 2006 Ford Fusion 4 door sedan. Upon arriving home from a short trip, I attempted to shut my car off. I shifted into what I thought was park and shut the car off. My key would not release from the ignition. I attempted to shift the car into park again and it showed it was in park. The keys still would not release from the ignition. I finally went into my home and looked online. I found online a description of the problem and a temporary solution. It seems the decorative ring around the button on the shifter keeps the button from fully disengaging. I went back out to my car and tried to shift out of park without hitting the button and was successful at which time the car was easy to roll. If the car was parked on a slope and the shifter did not fully engage in park it is possible that it could pop into neutral and roll away. I attempted to call my local dealer and was told that the service department was closed and nobody would be able to help me. This has happened 3 or 4 other times and eventually the keys came out but on this particular incident I struggled with it for most of an hour before I finally looked on the internet for the solution.

Car jumping, and hesitating. It happened alot. Engine light would come on. Told that there was nothing wrong, and that if the gas cap or engine top wasn't on that it was cause the light to go on, and was told about the jumping of the car that the sensor needed to catch up to the engine, that is what is was suppose to do. Also car switching its gear by itself then slowing down and losing power on the highway. Would have to pull over put the car in park, then proceed to put it in drive then it wouldn't happen for a couple of weeks.

Vehicle failed in high traffic, car jerked and when I pushed the gas I had nothing, no control. I was able to get the car safely off the road as cars swerved by. The car does not always do this. Took the car to the dealer where I bought it two times, they now say I need to replace the transmission. This Ford Fusion 2006 has only 49,000 miles on it. It is a safety hazard, but Ford or the dealer so far to date will not fix it. Help! this car is a danger to my family and other drivers around me. The consumer wanted to know the status of his complaint. Updated 01/13/10.
