I paid for a vehicle and didn’t want problems like this. The vehicle takes off on its own (over 1000 rpms) without a warning! I slam on the brakes to totally stop the vehicle to get the rpms to go to normal. I’m not the only one with this type of problem. This is a serious safety issue. If anyone have some advice please advise……

I was entering a construction zone and accelerated to move over one lane. The pedal seemed to hit a point where it grabbed itself and went down to the floor. By this time I had realized that I needed to hit the pedal with my foot to free it, as this was the third time this had happened. Although I had the pedal replaced after the first incident (at my cost) the dealer refused to acknowledge that there was an issue. I still own the car but just do not accelerate quickly.

Purchased this vehicle 7 months ago with 93000 miles (purchased 50,000 mile extended warranty) I did internet search and got Carfax report before purchase. Sure enough, the surge, stall, and trans/throttle body malfunction and check engine light came on. Three times has happened and 3 times it reset itself after shutting down and stopped for 5 to 10 minutes and restart with A/C and all accessories turned off.

Contacted my Ford Dealer that I have always received great service from and described problem to Service Manager. He said he is aware of the problem and made appointment for me to bring it in. So, I will update when this is accomplished.

I AGREE FORD SHOULD DO A RECALL ON THIS AND KEEP THEIR REPUTATION GOOD! DON'T BE LIKE GM!!!

We purchased our 06 Freestyle used with around 75,000 miles in the Fall of 2009. Within the next year we started having problems with the car accelerating forward when we would be stopped at traffic light, while driving, etc. We had this problem at random for months. Finally, we researched it online and found it was a quick and inexpensive fix.

We did not replace the throttle body. We stopped in at our local parts store and my husband purchased throttle body cleaner for around $5 and when we got home it took him a few minutes and the car was fixed. We now have around 197,000 miles on this car and have to say it has been great until now, with the exception of this issue. Basic oil changes/brake pads is really all we've had to do to it. I will say we have recently, within the last 1000 miles, experiencing some noise from the transmission and are hoping it will be an easy fix so we can enjoy another 100,000 miles from this car.

GREAT CAR WITH AN ISSUE BUT EASILY FIXED!!!!!!!!!

My car just suddenly decides to accelerate when I am stopped with my foot on the brake or going slow. Like through a parking lot or in reverse, It just suddenly accelerates. I had the throttle replaced less than 2 years ago and now it appears it has gone bad again. It was not cheap then and I am sure it will be even more now. I have decided to complain this time. This is way to dangerous for this to be happening again in less than 2 years. Note to freestyle drivers Keep one foot on the brake if you are in reverse or going slow, or even stopped at a stop light press firmly down. I seems to me that this can suddenly go bad and it does not matter how new the part may be. Need to get rid of this car!!

I had the throttle replaced not knowing there was a problem with Freestyles in general. However the dealership was not even sure they was going to be able to get the part. The place that was making them had stop (no wonder) they thought is was going to be at least 3 months before they got the part if they could get one at all. They found the part had it put on now less than 2 years later it is bad again. NOT CHEAP! I am I to plan on this to go bad at anytime? Freestyle drivers keep one foot on the brake at all times when backing up or wanting to go slow!!!!!!!

The problem is very similar to the others listed on this site for the Ford Freestyle. My 2006 Freestlye randomly accelerates on its own forcing me to brake to stop it. Other times it won't accelerate, hesitates or is very slow to accelerate. The gear light comes on. When I turn off the car and restart it, the slow acceleration problem and the gear light goes away. I love the room and the hard plastic body is very ding resistant. But the throttle problem is a little scary.

Also it is annoying that the replacement bulbs for the brake/turn signals are only available through the dealers.

My car started taking off on me while backing out of my driveway. My kids were laughing because they thought I was doing it on purpose. I told my husband what was happening, it slowly increased over time. On the 13th of Aug. the problem needed to be addressed, the wrench symbol came on. They were able to fix it right away and I'm thankful , but this should be a recall!! It was very dangerous and scary. It was not covered by the warranty and that hurt because we were leaving that week end for vacation.

My 2006 Ford Freestyle accelerates on its own without pushing on the gas pedal. This problem started shortly after I bought the car used. It would only happen once every few months at first, now its a few times a week. It happens mostly when Im pulling in or backing out of a parking space or have been sitting at a light or sitting with the car running. My mechanic hasnt been able to figure it out & thats how I ended up here. I wanted to research the problem before taking to the dealer to get the run around. Now occassionally when it accelerates suddenly, when I push on the gas the car doesnt want to go even when I push the pedal to the floor I also get a little wrench light that comes on when this happens. I have to shut the car off & restart it to make it stop.

Freestyle V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 70,000 miles

My 06 Ford Freestyle limited is a peice of sh*t. It has 70K miles on it and now it is accelerating on its own, cutting off when put in reverse, the sway bar links need replacing, and the strut barings need replacing (which have already been replaced once). There is also a vibration on the dash when the car is traveling. As far as the room and the DVD player and the sound system, the vehicle is great, but when it comes to the actual vehicle getting me from point A to point B, it is not a trustworthy vehicle. My check engine light is on again and i am told i will need a throttle body replacement. Who knows how much this will costs and what will happen next to the vehicle. I do not recommend this vehicle to others.

the throttle body failure on my 2006 ford freestyle creates a very dangerous situation because the engine will accelerate without applying the gas pedaland will no accelerate at times when the gas pedal is pressed. after a little research i found this to be arecurring problem on 2005,2006, and 2007 ford freestyle vehicles. ford is or should be well aware the proble exist and has for some time and has done nothing about it , to add insult to injury my car has been at the ford dealership for over a month because the parts needed to repair it [ throttlebody ] is not availiable and no one can tell me for sure when it will be

people at ford tell me that the company making the part went out of bussiness without notice, well needless to say this does not help my situation, i have notified my state and federal highway safety commishners of the problem and i would like to ask everyone with a similar problem to do the same. this is definately a safety hazard and needs some immidiate attentiom , wfm stonewall, la
