The car drives a distance at about 50mph and then suddenly starts to power on and off rapidly. This is both scary and dangerous. Any recalls I know I am not the only one?

I would be driving along at say 55 mph. at night and all of a sudden everything electrical goes black and the engine dies. Then as suddenly as every thing dies, every thing comes back on. It does this repeatedly several times in a few minutes. At first I though it was water in the gas. It only sees to happen when I have been driving for a long time. So I have only been using it for short trips.
