i bought the 2006 Ford Freestar to have a safer car for me and my foster children. I was wrong, I had no idea that I was driving a time bomb that would go off because it rained. I was driving down the street and went to stop at the light when the car kept lunging forward and wouldn't stop. Fortunately i was alone in the car and the light turned so i turned around and went directly home . it was horrible. i had to shut the car off to get it to stop.i had it towed to the Ford dealership where i had purchased it.
i went on the pc and looked for answers and what i found was also told to me by the Ford service center as well, that the problem was in a tsb put out by Ford to its service centers.it says that rainwater goes down through the cowl and into the transmission vent where the transmission fluid gets water in it . when i had first called the Ford service center the service man's first question to me was had i driven the car into a lake? no i answered i didn't go pool hopping with it either!
this all happened on 08-01-11 i am still without my car as i am waiting for a torque converter for the transmission which i have been told is on back order today is 11-03-11 Ford knows that this is a manufacturing problem but they will not pay to have it fixed. the warranty company (which i have paid in full, $2,600) insists that they do not cover anything having to do with water!!!! both Ford and the warranty company are saying that it is not a mechanical problem. i believe if Ford makes a part or parts of a car wrongly so that it allows water to enter part or parts of a car and totally blow the transmission i do not see how the rain water can be blamed. had ford told me that if i were to buy the car and never let the rain touch it i would have gone elsewhere for a safe vehicle. i have lost work and been without a car for many months due to this and i am here to warn others not to ever trust in the Ford company. they do not stand by their work and if the work is faulty they will make you pay for the repairs. oh, and watch out for wet weather when in a ford !!!!
