CarComplaints.com Notes: The Freestar was introduced in 2004, but it was essentially just a rebranded Windstar. While there was a redesign of the interior and exterior, the Freestar still inherited some of the design flaws of its predecessor.

The third row rear seat latch corroded and fell off at the attachment plate. The item fell through the wheel well. This made driving unsafe :
1) A hole was open from the wheel well, so water from road would get in to the interior.
2) Third row seat was now only secured on the passenger side of the vehicle and not the driver side.
I called Ford to complain and their service operator basically told me the vehicle was past 36,000 mile warranty. I complained to NHTSA at the time and saw that many people had the same complaint, but Ford was not forced to do a recall. This was my last Ford vehicle that I ever purchased.
