Engine timing chain cover is seeping oil after approximately 130,600 miles. Vehicle has been maintained per the Ford maintenance manual and has never missed a scheduled maintenance event.
The transmission shudders when accelerating from fully stopped, such as when departing from a stop light or stop sign. It also shudders when accelerating from low speed, such as coming out of a parking lot and accelerating after slowly turning onto a street. The entire car shakes as it tries to pick up speed. This happens whether the engine is cold or warm. I have read dozens upon dozens of identical accounts from other 2017 Ford Focus owners. Something is inherently wrong with the powertrain system throughout the fleet and the manufacturer should fix the problem.
I purchased my Ford Focus May 2017 as a brand new vehicle with only 12 miles on it. In two years, I began to feel a shudder whenever I started to drive from a stop. The shudder was on and off for a month and increasingly got worse. I took my vehicle into Ford, July 2019. They stated that my clutch went bad and I needed to have it repaired. It was covered under warranty. Since this is a brand new vehicle I was surprised it was already having such a major issue. The service department staff notified me that this problem is common with Ford Focus's. a year in a half later, I began to have the same issues and symptoms again. I called Ford to notify them in December 2020, he stated it may be the same problem but they have to take a look at it. I made an appointment and got my vehicle repaired for the same clutch issue that was replaced originally. This was covered under warranty. I was informed that once my warranty expired they will no longer cover the cost for my repairs on the clutch if it went bad again. This would result in me paying $2,300 each time it needed a repair. Given the two clutch replacements within 3.5 years of having this brand new car, I was upset since this seemed to be an issue that shouldn't be occurring. I looked up recalls on 2017 Ford Focus's and found the recall number 18V845000 & 18V169000 (18S07). These two recalls specifically mention the type of issue I've had twice with this new vehicle within 1.5 years of each other. Its states the snowball effect of damage to the vehicle with the clutch fracturs. I called 800 number to Ford regarding this matter and they are unable to assist me until this problem happens three times. I am appalled since a new vehicle shouldn't have to have the same problem three times for assistance. This is a serious life-threatening manufactures defect, I should not have to keep paying, even after warranty.
I purchased this car new and within a week it began shuddering, studdering, jerking during acceleration. For a while I thought it was just me getting used to the car and pressing the gas pedal oddly. Over the years the problem has became worse and approximately 12-15 months ago I took it in to be checked out. I had to contact the dealership and complain about the way my car was driving numerous times before they allowed me to bring it in. I cannot remember if there was a recall on the transmission or if the "repair" was covered under warranty. Either way, the dealership tried everything they could to avoid me- so much that I passed the maximum miles covered in the manufacturer warranty before I was allowed to bring it in but they did still honor it, considering my complaint was well before the threshold was surpassed. When I picked my car up I was told a new electronic component was installed in(?) the transmission that would record and adapt to my driving style, allowing a much smoother transition between gear shifts, solving the shuddering. Whatever they did worked for about a week, just long enough to ensure the manufacturer warranty expired. Now it is worse than ever- sever shuddering and jerking between gears, taking longer than it should to shift gears, even slipping gears sometimes, occasional uninitiated engine revving and bogging down, hesitating to accelerate- both at a stop and while in motion, rolling backwards on an incline while in drive. I'm afraid to pull out onto a road if there's any traffic coming, afraid to cross at a median, merge into traffic from an off ramp. I've known from the beginning that something isn't right with this car, and reading through the class-action lawsuit against Ford for this same model car years 2012-2016, I believe Ford knows, too.

2017 Ford Focus shudders when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear when hot. When cold, no issues. After a long road trip on the highway, we stopped for a quick break and started the car up again. This time, I noticed a very harsh shudder and shake as I accelerated from a stop. No indicators on the dash, normal pressure and temp levels, oil level perfect.
My 2017 Ford Focus for a while now has had many transmission problems including stuttering, shuddering, and even rolling backwards while on a hill in drive. I have had my Ford Focus for almost 2 years now and have updated it on all of its recalls. But, not to long after I got it, the transmission started showing problems as the ones I listed earlier. It began first with the stuttering and then physically became noticeable when I rolled back on a hill. I know there have been recalls and a lawsuits against Ford for the previous models, primarily between 2012-2016. But, I think the 2017 has the same issues but no recalls on it yet. I'm hoping that by filing a report, something will come off it because it is a substantial problem. Dealerships are reaping even more because as soon as I had my problems, I immediately went back to my dealership to tell to them and they told me that it was a matter of getting used to. Something about the car adjusting to my foot pressure but it's only been getting worse. After much usage is when it's very noticeable but there is something definitely wrong. I've been in instances where I'm trying to turn on city streets but because the car stutters, it makes me slow down or pause; hence, placing me in positions of accidents or something worse. I just hope something can be done.
Car shudders from 1st to 2nd gear when at a complete stop or while driving. I have taken the car back to the dealer multiple times. They replaced the clutch twice. The other times they verify the shutter but said its with in normal spec. They said Ford is aware of the issue.
When accelerating "normally" the transmission will slip between 1st and second gears. When accelerating from a rolling start like on a freeway, the transmission will rev and then shift and/or slip causing temporary loss of power
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving, the vehicle shifts randomly from first to second gear then starts to shudder. The contact mentioned that while his daughter was making a right turn into traffic, the transmission shudders, the driver led off her foot off the accelerator pedal and nearly got hit by other upcoming vehicles with her child in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to chapman Ford, 1255 columbus ave, marysville, oh 43040, and was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. The dealer called Ford manufacturer and was informed that the range was not within the parameter for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The VIN was not available.
I purchased the vehicle January 9th 2021. I purchased the vehicle as the head gasket recall had been done already. I couldn't have the car checked out as I was 3 hours each way from home and had to meet the dealer at 9 pm. I drove the car and all seemed good. On the 3 hr drive home I noticed oil pressure way going back and forth and the car didn't seem to have the power it did 1 hr before, I thought it was just in my head. So Monday I put the car on the lift at work and seen their was oil coming from the headgasket area again. I have the original paperwork from when it was done at a dealer but it also is known that the early recalls that were done did not use the correct gasket even for the recall. I am asking for this to get fixed as I didn't pay 30,000 for a car that I cant drive and have to pay 11,000 to fix the motor. The car had 51522 miles when I bout it. It is 200 miles for the drive home. And it has 51833 on it right now and I drive it daily.
Shortly after purchasing this vehicle I noticed the clutch slipping while driving. This includes slipping into neutral at highway speeds, as well as slipping while trying to accelerate, leaving me with no power. The shifts, especially 1st to second are very violent and rough. While shifting the whole car shakes aggressively while also being paired with a shuddering and grinding noise. Ford was notified of this problem at 49,195 miles on November 19th 2019. Ford test drove the vehicle and said that they could not recreate my complaint. I was also told that "this is how this car drives". I believe I was told this as a deterrent from making future complaints. Two thousand miles later I went back to Ford after my car was not driving in reverse. Ford chose to relearn the clutch however this was a problem with the transmission itself as well as the clutch, no further repairs were made. I was then told again that there was no problem with the vehicle. We also made 2 reports to Ford customer service notifying Ford of this problem as I was still under my warranty. Now 9 thousand miles out of warranty (69,000) Ford is telling me there is a problem with my transmission and that the vehicle is unsafe to drive. They are requiring a diagnostic fee of 1200 dollars to investigate the problem and see what needs repairs at my expense. I believe Ford is only acknowledging the problem with this unsafe vehicle now that I am out of warranty.
I bought my 2017 Ford Focus SE with 8 miles on it when it got about 5,000 miles on it my transmission began to shutter. Brought it to 3 different Ford dealerships to be told nothing wrong with it. About 20,000 miles I notice the shutter becoming worst and worst to be told once again nothing wrong with it. Now my car is at 50,000 and anytime it's under the half way mark with gas the shutter become more intense. Still Ford wants to tell me there is no problems
Went to jumpstart daughter's car, jump started car and it would not go in reverse. Had it towed to a local Ford dealership and was told I needed a new transmission. There were no check engine lights or transmission problems before car was jump started. Scann ed car and found transmission code P2837. Dealership says the transmission is not covered under warranty. The car only has 69,000 mi on it and it's 3 years old. Getting a hold of a lemon lawyer in regards to getting some compensation for these faulty transmission.
The car was serviced fully, it performs perfect as it should whenever the engine is cold however once it heats up the vehicle will shudder in 1st and 2nd gear from a dead stop, I have brought to the attention of the Ford dealership, however they said it's a new and improved transmission however I have done my research and the transmission equipped to my car is the same transmission used in previous models of the Ford Focus with the same faults and issues as the previous models that were recalled and had a lawsuit filed against Ford for selling faulty vehicles.
My transmission is garbage. My car shakes when I accelerate especially from a stop. I took it to a shop and they confirmed it was the transmission and thst it was made with the bad transmission. They said me getting a new one is pointless because there isn't a good one made for the 2017 Ford Focus because Ford made it that way knowing it was bad. Also I don't know if my adas system is just non existent or what because I've never heard it ever go off before.
I financed my 2017 Ford Focus SE in October 2018. It had 43,600 approx mi on the vehicle. After driving the vehicle for a couple months just to work and home (6 mi one way) mon - fri and weekend errands in town, I noticed the car started having a shake when I would drive after coming to a complete stop. My dad came and got the car to have a recall for the fuel fixed and the dealership replaced the clutch in the transmission. He advised this would happen again because there is no permanent fix for this issue. I have had the vehicle in the shop 2 more times since and I have 68,500 mi on the vehicle now. The shaking is worse than ever and I am afraid to drive my vehicle. I need Ford to fix this issue permanently. Ford has now told me there is no warranty for the vehicle because I went 30 mi over at the time. I do not know what to do. I feel the dealership failed to disclose information and is refusing to admit Ford has made a mistake. What is my recourse" this should have been repaired the first time, not a recurring issue that puts additional stress and fear. Isn't covid already causing enough of that" the vehicle acts like it wants to cut off when I have to stop and go forward driving.
I put my vehicle in drive and it wouldn't move, it felt like I was pressing on the gas while the brakes were on, then I was leaving a store when my vehicle would not reverse and a message would pop up saying transmission not in park. It finally started but wouldn't go over 11 miles then it dropped down to 4 miles. So, I had parked it and went to turn it back on but it wouldn't turn on, it was like my battery had died.
My 2017 Focus continues to shift into neutral periodically while driving. It happens while accelerating. I have brought it in 3 times for this and for the shudder/vibration issue with the transmission. It neutral shifts at least once a week. Ford could not replicate the issue with the neutral shift and will not fix it. They will also not correct the shudder / vibration because even though they confirmed the shudder, it was still "within spec". 2 days after I picked it up from service for the issues, the neutral shift happened again and I was nearly hit by another car. I fear my fiance who drives the car will get into an accident because of these problems that Ford is not correcting. I have all the paperwork from the Ford dealer the issues were "corrected" at.
My vehicle has only 49000 miles. I have already had the clutch replaced probably around 35000 miles and tcm updated. However, it is now shuddering again and was told it is not under warranty even though the transmissions with these cars were defected when they were made
