CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Ford Focus & its "Powershift" transmission has a defect trend where the car shudders when accelerating, especially when starting uphill.

Most owners have reported their Ford Focus remains driveable while the vehicle is still at low mileage, but the shuddering is annoying & unpleasant & may reduce the resale value of the vehicle.

However, owners of higher-mileage vehicles from earlier 3rd generation Focus model years report transmission failure & a host of other major & expensive transmission-related problems. Potential buyers beware.

Vehicle sputters after take off from stops such as traffic lights and stop signs. Pulling out of places into traffic. Vehicle cuts off sometimes after pulling out from locations. The problem is becoming worse and worse. I'm afraid it's going to cut if and I'm going to be killed or seriously injured. Vehicle does this every single day now. Whenever I'm driving and come to a complete stop or if I'm pulling into traffic.

Bought my car from a dealership in 2015. They didnt mention anything about any problems my car might have. It was the perfect car. I drove 6 hours to get this car. On my way home I notice the shudder and vibration. Never have I felt this before. We took it to the dealership and they reset the perimeters and told us to drive it hard that these cars needed to adjust to the way we were driving it. It was still under my extended warranty. Fast forward to our trip to Colorado/vegas. Traction control was needed yet it smelt like wire burning. Turned it off. We went to the hollywood sign for pics and the car wouldn't even back up the hill. All it would do was go forward.. took it back to the shop again they said it was the clutch and it needed replaced. It was only 300 miles out of warranty at this time and they wouldnt fix it.

My 2015 Ford Focus hesitates during take-off with a known dual-clutch transmission problem. This hesitation causes the car to jolt back and forth with a possible cause to crash into the vehicle in front of you during slow traffic. The service advisor at the Ford dealership has explained this as an annoyance instead of a safety issue. Ford has extended the warranty for the clutch replacement, but I bought this car with a rebuilt title and Ford will not honor or cover the clutch under the warranty. They want to charge me $2000 on a known problem because of the rebuilt title. Now a days it does not take much for an insurance company to total a car with a small fender bender. Ford Motor Company should cover the transmission warranty of the car with either a clean title or salvaged title.

Over the past year my Ford Focus 2015 has begun suffering a terrible "shuddering" when going from stop to moving (specifically the first shift range of 15-20mph), and esp. When going from stop to moving on a turn (stopping at a stop sign then turning for example), pushing more gas doesn't seem to help accelerate any faster. The clutch has been replaced before but the issue just keeps getting worse, and it really sucks.

Car will hesitate to accelerate leaving you to press the gas harder than needed at times and could cause an accident. Sometimes car wont shift into the correct gear. While driving with cruise control set my car will rev up to 7,000 RPM and stay there for a few seconds. I have multiple videos of this happening and im told its not bad enough for Ford to cover it under my warranty because it doesnt meet their requirements for a repair. They have replaced the clutch as well as tcm. A total of 3 transmission repairs and now im passed my warranty so they wont cover the diagnosis. Ive had it looked at multiple times and was told its not bad enough or they cant find anything wrong at all. And my videos arent proof enough even though you can see my cruise is set and my speed doesnt change but my rpms are all over the place, nor is it possible for me to make my rpms stay consistant at a rate. Very frustrating to buy a brand new car to have these issues continue to happen and get horrible has mileage.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. While the contact's daughter was driving 15 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact took the vehicle to four seasons Ford (601 duncan hill rd, hendersonville, nc 28792, 828-693-4281) and was informed that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 18V735000 (fuel system, gasoline). The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle no longer qualified for the recall due to a prior repair made to the transmission where a strip was welded onto the bottom of the transmission. The contact was informed that they could rebuild the transmission; however, she would have to pay for the repair out of pocket. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,685.

A bought a used Ford car from Toyota, the car unknowingly had a recall on it. The car has been seen 10 times, under warranty, the transmission and clutch has gone out, Ford and Toyota have refused to by back the car. Car has been out of service for 31 days as of now. And I have not received a rental, Ford will not open the recall back open. Hendricks won't look at the car they tell me to take it back to Ford. While driving the car the car would not exelorate pass 40-55 miles per hour. The radio, bluetooth ports stopped working. The auto start and stop stopped working. I have contacted Ford company more than 10 times with 6 case numbers. The last time I was driving the car I was in motion on the highway when I could smell a burning oder, then the clutch pedal went out (stuck in the far back position) then the car when into limp mode and would not excel pas 50 miles per hour after pressing the gas the gas petal goes out. The stick to change gears when out and the car was smoking. I then rolled off the nearest exit ramp where the car came to a stop in the middle of the street

When driving this Focus, upon initial acceleration, this car shutters badly. Seems to shutter more on hot days, but this occurs all year round. After doing research, found that this is a major issue with this transmission. Plan on calling dealership to see if this issue can be resolved. I do not want this to become a safety issue for my family.

Transmission shudders slips and is generally sluggish. Sometimes reads in neutral and car is in drive mode. Ford dealerships state clutch assembly and seals need replaced have written documentation from dealership confirming the issue. I contacted Ford customer care and was told that there was nothing they will do to repair the problem as Ford has not recognized that there is an issue. I was told that I am responsible for repairs even though they are aware of the problem.I was shunned and generally treated very poorly by every F ord dealership I spoke with as they stated they cannot recover the repair costs from Ford.

Got the car around 31K miles I've been doing uber since I'm a college student who desperately needs money all the time. My transmission just went on my 2015 Ford Focus SE in the middle of traffic while I had a passenger. I was going about 20 mph around a round about, when the engine suddenly stalled. On the dash it said transmission is overheating wait 5 minutes. So I did. The transmission wouldn't go into gear. I had a previous 2013 model with the same transmission problem. To think Ford would of fixed the problem, they continued to sell these cars. Knowing they had failure with the transmission.

The transmission in my 2015 Ford Focus has had numerous transmission control module updates ( tcm ) which the dealership kept saying would fix the problem which it did not in most cases made it worse. The dual clutch has been replaced 4 time's the throw out bearing, and the shift motors for the fix to last between 10,000 to 15,000 miles and the vehicle clutch being replaced again. At the last visit to dealership was advised the clutch need replaced again but was advised it was not under warranty now because the clutch used at last replacement was the latest revised edition that had a 10,000 mile warranty through the dealership to contact Ford customer care and open a case up to see if Ford will warranty the repair. Was advised to take the vehicle back to the dealership and give them the case number issued by Ford. The dealership called later that day and advised that my car was ready for pickup. After arriving at the dealership the clutch had not been replaced was advised at that time it did not meet the requirements of the shutter file number to warrant replacement but it did a week earlier when the vehicle was at the dealership. At the current time the slip's on acceleration. Jerk's and shake's with sudden acceleration from a stopped position. Hill assistance works sporadic to keep the car from rolling backwards when pulling out on a hill. The car at times will not want to upshift or downshift when it need to causing you to have to pull off the side of the road and put the vehicle in park then it will shift correctly from a few days to a couple of weeks. Then the same problem again. But I'm told by Ford and the dealership there is nothing wrong with the car now after I got a case number from Ford on the transmission. The car currently has only 75,000 miles and has still not been fixed by Ford.

I am the original owner of a 2015 Ford Focus with no accidents. After 2 years and 20,000 miles the car would occasionally shake violently upon acceleration, where it would then accelerate slower than normal at that. I am greatly worried about the safety of myself, my passengers, and the entire public as a loss of control from this behavior could cause multiple fatalities and greatly impact many financially due to traffic caused by an accident, or exuberant health and/or funeral costs. I have had the issue fixed once under warranty (costing me a day of work as Ford denied me a rental even though the issue was unequivocally their fault), but I know the issue will come back soon as it has for many others. Upon which, I will have the transmission replaced again and will sell the car to an unsuspecting buyer who may be more likely to cause an accident as they will be less informed on the issue when the problem of the defectively engineered car rises again. This experience has steered me away from american cars for the rest of my life. I have never had any issues with the 1996 Honda civic I bought in 2008 and sold in 2015.
