CarComplaints.com Notes: For the third year in a row, the 3rd generation Focus is experiencing massive transmission problems.

Most notably owners keep complaining about how there's bad hesitation and jerking when starting from a stop. This isn't the result of an old, worn out part. In fact, the average mileage it's reported to us is just over 15k miles.

Car jerks and shakes. Especially when taking off or on turning vehicle jerks badly. I understand that is when automatic transmission is trying to shift gears. I have had the clutch replaced once already. This causes a huge danger to me because if I would like to try to make a left turn in front of traffic I never know if my car will go or resist. Sons days are so bad that I just give up driving because it feels as if my car will stall. This is not what you expect a car that you've bought new and paid thousands of dollars on to run like daily. Dealership, today, says it's fine. Initial issues date back to August 2014.

After completing a stop, when pressing gas pedal, car/transmission stutters then jerks forward. I've tried accelerating more slowly and then tried it faster with more gas, but it makes no difference. The car won't accelerate fast enough to safely make turns before oncoming traffic. I've had this new car 11 months.

First incident car wouldn't start, 2nd incident took car in for lurching, shuddering, 3rd incident rolling back (car still shuddering) they said this was within normal specs. 4th incident have been ignoring it (because it is normal??!!)... still shuddering, lurching on take off from a stop, also tires are making a "tire sound" secondary to transmission (most likely due to transmission issues)... boyfriend and pep boys say this is not normal that its the transmission. Taking it back in on the 15th of Sept. 2015, very frustrating. Having boyfriend take it back in because we believe that automotive is still a sexist industry. Have 2 case numbers given to me. Certain it is a lemon, not sure where to go from here. Hate my car.

My daughter's Ford Focus shudders and hesitates when switching from 1st to 2nd gear. It is an automatic, but has some sort of internal clutch or similar device according to Ford. It has been doing this for a few months and was taken into the local Ford dealership for repair on June 10. The dealership said they had to order the part and that it was on back order. They are telling us almost 2 months later that it is still on back order with no projected ship date. It is a dangerous situation to have a car that hesitates during acceleration, and I'm concerned about the safety of my daughter and granddaughter when they are in this vehicle. Attempts to escalate this to Ford customer service over the past two weeks have resulted in no new information, no projected resolution and no one at Ford corporate taking responsibility for what I have indicated is a safety issue. Please let me know if there are steps that NHTSA can take to address this situation.

This vehicle has trouble accelerating. When at a stopped position or driving at low speeds and you try to accelerate the car sputters, jumps, and almost stalls out. This is extremely unsafe and increases the likelihood of being hit from behind by another vehicle. We have had this vehicle back to the dealer three times. They are either very inept or just aren't concerned about actually fixing this issue. My daughter took the vehicle in once and they told her she had to drive the vehicle for 1000 miles and the car car would fix itself. My sister owns this same vehicle and is having the exact same issue.

Vehicle broke down on highway and had to pull off to shoulder. Tach raced and the vehicle sputtered and eventually stalled. Emergency pull off to shoulder. Extremely dangerous. After 45 min car roughly started, and I could pull vehicle to a safer location. Very dangerous! limped the car to dealership. After 6-7 days and $1300 the dealership claimed I had a failed pump assembly, sensor, and coil assembly. Fuel injector #4 was replaced!! * weather during issue was rainy! ** just happened again - 5/5/2015!! see report #2 - so unhappy with Ford for making this a potential walk condition. People can die from this!

Death/safety risk!! once again driving my Focus on rainy weather, and it sputtered and stalled. Had to pull off to the shoulder to avoid serious rear end collision. Car would not start for approximately 15 min. Finally started and roughly idled enough to get off the highway shoulder. Very frustrating. Especially after spending appx $1300 to get this repaired and supposedly 100% fixed. Completely unacceptable- never buying a Ford again. Glad my wife or daughter wasn't driving this vehicle. NHTSA please make Ford recognize this issue and fix it!! contact me with any questions - as a quality engineer in the automotive industry, I know this is wrong!! a potential walk condition is the worst condition from a safety stance.

While driving car suddenly began to loose RPM, motor quit running, could not restart. Vehicle had to be towed. I was told the motor was bad and would have to be replaced, the next day was told the fuel pump was bad and was all that was needed replaced, then was told the problem was caused by "bad fuel" and not covered by my extended warranty. I get gasoline at same place, they tell me there have been no other complaints about problems with fuel. Only last month I noticed oil on sides of car and the water pump was replaced, was told by mechanic at Ford that the "oil and water were mixing". all this sounds a little too weird to be happening to a 2014 vehicle and I am not happy about having to spend over $500 to repair a car this new.

I hurt my neck when I hit the divider but all I ask is Ford to back up there mistake on vehicles I also bought a new F150 that truck runs great back in 2001. I just don't want to drive that car no more it's very dangerous. Good thing my kids was not in the car that day.[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
