CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford changed a lot of things for its 3rd generation, just none of them were a good idea.
The transmission tends to hesitate and jerk when accelerating. The new electronically-driven power steering can fail suddenly and without warning. Even Ford's SYNC can be a headache. Actually, scratch that last one — it's always been a headache.

While driving at speed the car will shut off without warning. There is a recall for the wiring harnesses for other Ford focuses with the same issue but mine is not covered under that recall. The engine shutting off while driving has caused me to almost be hit several times and is a safety concern.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the check engine and oil warning indicators illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that this was the second time the failure occurred. The contact coasted to a parking lot and waited approximately three hours before restarting the vehicle at that time the vehicle started normally. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnosis or repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
Ford Focus shuts off when you press the brakes. It cranks back up fine but whenever you pull off and stop or try to slow down the car will shut down. It is happening constantly now.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. On several occasions, while driving at undisclosed speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the vehicle vibrated abnormally and the passenger side motor mount was replaced several months ago, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to butch ostalet Ford Lincoln (9274 us 49, gulfport, ms 39503, (228) 863-5525) where it was diagnosed that the clutch was slipping. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that the warranty period had expired and no additional assistance would be provided. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
While traveling on a surface street, at approximately 50 mph the engine decelerated very quickly. The dash instrumentation showed "engine fault service now!" the engine was sputtering and shaking as I attempted to accelerate to get over to the shoulder. I did get over safely. My wife and I were very badly shaken. After about 5 minutes I regained my composure enough to try to restart the car. It took about 3 tries to restart. The instruments were back to normal except the check engine light was on. I drove home without incident and turned the car off. A half hour later I tried to start the car and it did it again. The car has been towed to a repair shop. My wife is now afraid to drive this car. We live in Arizona. The speed limit is 65 mph. The average speed of cars on the highway is 75 mph just to keep up with the flow of traffic. Not if, but when this happens to a driver travelling at 65 to 70 mph there will be costly repercussions and hopefully no loss of life, but life changing injuries. This car is a death trap. I also have filed a claim in the ongoing Ford transmission settlement, vargas V. Ford Motor Co., case. No. 2:12-cv-08388-ab-ffm. I am sure that you are aware of this case. This car needs to be taken off our streets and highways. I know you will do your due diligence and please, sooner rather than later. I will have documentation when my car has been repaired, so feel free to contact me. When

I purchased the certified pre-owned Ford in 2014 and in 2016 had to it in for service on a clutch asy- sensor turbi issue. After a few weeks the vehicle was returned. The aforementioned happened again and was taken in for the 2nd time for the clutch asy-sensor turbi issue. On 11/17/2017 it was diagnosed with the same issues for the 3rd time, this time I was told its out of warranty. I explained that the vehicle had this issues two prior times and the clutch system was defective. I was then told to take the matter up with corporate. I also located a class action lawsuit against Ford for the same issues am facing. Please help hold Ford responsible for installing defective clutch systems in their vehicles.

After I turned the car off for about five minutes, I drove it once again and it seemed to be normal and the check engine light was no longer flashing. Then, after a week it happened again, the car died on the highway.
I have read many recalls on the wiring issue of the 2013 Ford Focus St model with it stalling out due to faulty wiring. My 2013 Ford Focus SE is doing the exact same thing putting my daughter's life at risk every time she gets in it as well as my own and wray Ford in shreveport la says sorry cant help you...it's not on the recall since its not an St and you will have to pay for the repairs. This is garbage Ford is not standing behind their product and I am the little guy. This is the second recall for this issue and the SE is not being taken care of with the identical issue. Runs fine when driving, but when at a light or stop sign, it shakes, gauges go crazy and then shuts off. I just bought this car and of course when I got it home that's when the issues started. Purchased as is no warranty and of course was not told of the issues but only that I should call to see if there are any recalls. Help! funny thing is that it stalled on me at the red light turning into wray Ford in shreveport.
Transmission lags, shifts rough, jerks, and hesitates especially when pulling from a light or turning into enter roadway. Defective transmission clutch. Recent class action suites settled on this with Ford co. No recall at this time. I had purchased this car from the dealer in 2014. I have had to visit the dealership maintain 6 times. It has had transmission control module was adjusted and then replaced. Also, the transmission clutch adjustment and then replaced. These attempts only work temporarily. The dealer treats me like I am making this up, however, there is plenty of information available online with regard to this issue. There was a recent (March 27, 2017) class action suit settled in California for this exact problem. I have all of my documentation for the maintenance of the vehicle. The manufacture has admitted to the issue and extended my warranty on the transmission, however, that is not sufficient as it will continue to have this problem and I have lost significant use, value, and time related to maintaining the car to function properly.

Stopped at a stop sign and then when I had to accelerate to turn onto a highway, it would not accelerate. It was stuck in low gear. Luckily there was an exit off the highway and I was able to pull over. I was not able to accelerate past 20 mph! restarted my car and it worked fine. But then 5 minutes later same thing, it would not accelerate.
Transmission failure. I've had the clutch strum replaced six times, most recently my car experienced a transmission electrical and actual failure without warning. I was unable to move on a highway bridge. It has been having shifting issues since I got it and makes a noise and stutters, usually between first and second gear but also in other instances. This has been an ongoing issue.
