CarComplaints.com Notes: You should probably steer clear of the 2012 Focus. Otherwise, you might not be able to steer at all.

The 2012 is the first Focus to offer Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). It's also the first year with massive power steering failure. These things are not mutually exclusive.

And while you wait for your steering to disappear, you'll be greeted with a transmission that shudders, vibrates or won't shift at all.

I could handle the studder and handle the being held hostage by my seat belt, but now I have to pay $1,800 to get my steering fix after almost hitting a tree with my family in the car. I was just about to upgrade to a escape, I will never buy Ford again after this because I have 89000 on my car they will help with nothing. Nor do they care about the safety of me and my family or the other people around me ! I have never been so disappointed. I truly loved this little car until it tried to kill me.

Door latch broke on driver side door 7/28/16, now passenger door lock broke on 8/14/16. I paid $542 for drivers door to be fixed. Now I need to get other door fixed. Door will not stay closed while driving. I was getting in my car to leave an establishment and the door would not stay closed. I had to strap my seatbelt through the door handle to help keep it shut.

My daughter was involved in a head on collision. The airbag deployed but split open and she said it looked like smoke came out of it. Also the seat belt did not lock on impact. She sustained minor injuries to her right arm and abdomen hips and back. The vehicle was in motion going 45 mph the other car was going 70 mph and it was on a city street.

Three of my 4 door latches stopped functioning completely. They did not work whether the car was stationary, in motion, driving, or turning. We had to tie the door handles to each other from the inside to keep them from flying open while driving. When you pushed them shut from the outside, they would bounce back open. This also caused constant warning lights/sounds from the dash. Ford stated there was a recall, but ours were not covered because my 4 door latches were packaged as a 4 pack whereas the serial numbers for the recalled latches were sold in individual packaging. So therefore, I was not covered due to a loop hole. The doors not shutting properly (ever) caused water to leak in and cause other problems such as the window motor shorting out. I reached out to corporate and customer service and was told they would not pay for the repairs. I paid for the repairs out of pocket because I had to.

After having the car repaired from a recall, the 6th time for repair; the car broke down and had to be towed to the dealership. The transmission control module is out now and it is in the shop for the 7th time related to the same issue. I consider this car dangerous and will ultimately cause an accident or death. Why are you not doing anything about this issue. It is for all 2012 Ford Focus vehicles.

2012 Ford Focus. Driver seatbelt got stuck. Could not get out of the car. Took over 15 minutes before I could finally get it to disengage. Now it wont engage. The metal tongue goes in but does not catch. The seatbelt warning continues even when I hold it inside the clasp. I am nervous and distracted now with the seatbelt not working. This for me is a serious safety concern.

On January 27th.. my car (2012 Ford Focus SE 4door 5 speed) my car had 33,342 miles on it once it came into the service bay at asheville Ford in asheville nc. I was advised that the car would have to stay for the day and look into the situation. Car would die at random, lights would come on like a christmas tree (oil pressure light, battery light, traction light, ESC light, information light, check engine light) and a message would appear (engine malfunction service now). Asheville Ford was also notified of a sun visor popping, seat belts not releasing and creaking noises in the B pillars on both sides, and the ac was blowing hot air again (this was repaired on the 23rd before and already blowing hot air).

I purchased this vehicle in November of 2012 and was never forewarned about the issues they had. The transmission has been fixed numerous times but continues to clip, shudder, jerk, and shake. I had to go to durham a year and a half ago and was almost involved in a bad accident when the vehicle started to roll back on an incline while in drive. I have come close to many accidents though due to this car, mostly because the transmission hangs up so bad. I have to constantly pull into either a parking lot or the center turn lane when I am in heavy stop and go traffic because the transmission stops pulling. I normally have to turn the vehicle off and sit there for a few minutes before it resets itself and I can go on my way.recently I was in the mountains and the rpms kept hanging up at 4,000 RPM going up and down the pass. I had to keep hitting the brakes and hitting the gas in order to resolve this issue. With semi trucks behind you this is very disconcerting. I also was stuck in heavy stop and go traffic on the interstate in the middle lane and the transmission was trying to quit. Last year the seat belt buckle broke and I could not get it to unlatch, this past summer the ac was not blowing out of the vents, had to take multiple trips to the shop to get it diagnosed, and eventually fixed both blend door actuators. The chrome plating started peeling off on the steering wheel this past year at only 40,000 miles and almost cut my hand multiple times. It took them two tries to fix that. My gas mileage is not even what is advertised for these vehicles. In town I get 22 to 25 and on the highway I get 26 to 29 mpg. This car is ridiculous! Ford will not even acknowledge the issues that it has, instead the transmission is within normal operating parameters, the rest of it well as the customer service lady stated to me "all cars have issues".

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle made a loud noise coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the motor mounts fractured. As a result, the engine dropped and damaged the axle and cvc joint. In addition, the contact stated that the passenger's side seat belt was constantly becoming stuck preventing the passenger from exiting the vehicle in a timely fashion. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 92,000.

The driver's side seat belt tongue wouldn't go into the buckle like normal. It took a lot of effort to shove it in, and have it actually click. Then separating the parts of the buckle was also difficult. Sometimes it's easier to get it to work, and other times it feels like I'm having a wrestling match. We took it to the Ford dealership when we were having problems with the power train, and they told us it would cost $55 just to look at it. There is nothing jammed inside the buckle, but feels more like the inside hook isn't reacting correctly to the tongue. There is also a frayed edge to the seat belt buckle that makes it look really cheap. I'm pretty sure that with it being a safety feature that it shouldn't cost us anything, and they should be taking this seriously because it most likely is a defective part they issued. I guess they don't care about our safety over making a quick buck off of us.
