CarComplaints.com Notes: You should probably steer clear of the 2012 Focus. Otherwise, you might not be able to steer at all.

The 2012 is the first Focus to offer Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). It's also the first year with massive power steering failure. These things are not mutually exclusive.

And while you wait for your steering to disappear, you'll be greeted with a transmission that shudders, vibrates or won't shift at all.

I'm not sure what is going on but my car is stalling at traffic lights and road signs. It doesn't line going past 200 miles with it completely refueling and sometimes won't even start. I've stalled driving down the road at 70 MPH. Trying to start the car only killed my battery so I had to be towed home. This is absolutely crap. I shouldn't have these problems with this new of a car. My old Focus was tough as nails while this thing scares me every time I get behind the wheel. Something needs to be done. I believe the fuel system is failing.

I have been having a problem with this car from the start after I purchased it. Now the problem has gotten worse and just the other day, I almost got hit by an 18 wheeler because my car stalled and eventually cut off at a red light on the bypass. It was scary and very frightening. It seems as if my problem with this vehicle will never end. Every month I am replacing something on this car.

Vehicle began stalling with 'need service now' alert. Had vehicle towed to dealer, who replaced purge valve. Drove vehicle on trip out of state 2 days later and vehicle stalled again, appx 300 miles after repair. After letting vehicle sit and turning off all accessories, got vehicle started again, but stalled several times on way home. Took vehicle back to dealer, who ran another diagnostic. Dealer now said fuel system needs replacement. Repairs made and no further problems. Of course, extended warranty had expired 8 months prior.

Focus SE 3.2L V6

Just received email from car complaint about this problem, had to have my purge valve replace early December. It cost me around $250.00. This issue was kinda of scary since my car would stall while I was accelerating on a highway. Complete loss of power.

There needs to be a damn recall. There were 2,000 complaints before I added mine. Had to put out 2,900.00 of my money, no warranty. Dealer told me if they did recall I would get my money back. That car was horrible, I'm lucky I didn't get killed when it stalled out on the expressway. I say Ford should pay for all of it. I have since sold that piece of crap. Will never buy a Ford again. I was fortunate that I was driving and not my wife. She might have panicked and been involved in an accident when the vehicle stalled. I can understand replacing a fuel pump at 100,117 miles but a fuel tank, purge valve, purge solenoid, and fuel pump at a cost of $1,700 is over the top. I believe I'll choose Subaru again my next new car purchase!

Focus ES 2.0L

So I took the car to the dealer after running out of gas couple time with the gauge marking full, of course there price to check $142. my car is a 2012 ford focus ES 42xxx miles, as you can see low miles for the year only drive it maybe couple time dUring a week cuz I used a lot public transportating. before I took the car to the dealer I took it to some local mechanic shop which was mayor error from the start cuz they charge me for a oxygen senssor and the problem keep coming back, well I decide take it to the dealer knowing that they are very expense and I got a call telling me that the gas pump needs to be replace and it comes with the gas tank costly $1900, well I am so piss off at their cars that i will never buy another ford again im deciding to not fix it and just park it on my garage until this issue get to recall and I hope it does with the help of others owner that had the same issue. please help!

Focus SE 2

  • Automatic transmission
  • 84,000 miles

I was driving to work at 4:30 am and my car stalled, pulled off to side of road and called for a tow. Had it towed to dealership where they inspected vehicle to find purge valve was shot, melted sensors and collapsed gas tank. estimated cost to repair about $1700.00 without tax and labor. I bought an extended warranty to be told like always sorry it's not covered. I'm so pissed an they can only help me by maybe getting me into another vehicle (with this one less than 1 year into payments)so now they want me to come up with another downpayment. UP Yours FORD own up and make this a recall, this is a bunch of crap!!!!!!!

Update from Aug 8, 2016: Still no help with getting the problem resolved. My financial situation is that I still can not have it fixed. I also get calls from my loan company that they are going to repose the car. Thank you Ford for not taking this seriously and making this a recall. You are not the company I thought you were.
