CarComplaints.com Notes: You should probably steer clear of the 2012 Focus. Otherwise, you might not be able to steer at all.

The 2012 is the first Focus to offer Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). It's also the first year with massive power steering failure. These things are not mutually exclusive.

And while you wait for your steering to disappear, you'll be greeted with a transmission that shudders, vibrates or won't shift at all.

Car was still experiencing transmission issues after the repairs completed on 06/01/2016. Was told that I had to drive the car for 5000KM for the transmission to reprogram itself and if there is still problems after that to return.

The car felt like it was going to stall and the check engine light was back on again.

They scanned the car for codes - had it in on 06/01/2016 for the same issue. Said Code P0420 came up and I needed a new catalytic converter. Cost for this was estimated at $1201.83 plus tax. Refused to have work done as I had no sounds or emissions problems as far as I could hear. Left the shop with no check engine light on - hasn't came back on and its been two months.

I was away to overseas from 16 Aug. Engine light on from 6 Sept when I started driving. 7 Sept 2016 – Repair Request below (1) Hard to start the vehicle (2) Engine Light on again (repeated problem since 12 Aug) (3) Transmission Hot Indication (Transmission getting hot, need to wait for 5 min) (4) RPM Up from 1 to 3 (5) Ford services centre requested to change car battery (which cost ~ MYR700) that caused engine light on. 8 Sept 2016 – Repair Request below (1) Hard to start the vehicle (2) Engine Light on after 2 hours collected car on 7 Sept (after change car battery, problem still the same) (3) Transmission Hot Indication (Transmission getting hot, need to wait for 5 min) (4) RPM Up from 1 to 4 (5) Vehicle jerking while driving 27 Sept 2016 – Went to check on the car status. Ford PJ Manager promised to have my car fixed and ready for collection 1st Oct 2016. Literally, my car has engine light on since 12 Aug. Till today (4 Oct), I have yet to receive my car status update. My car has been in the workshop for almost coming to a month. It is really unacceptable Ford services to their vehicle users which is long overdue. How it could take such a long duration to ratify car issue and get it fixed. During the visit on 27 Sept, Ford Services Agent mentioned it is a clutch issue, required to be changed and test it out. Who is bearing the cost of my car rental for these past one month due to poor Ford Repair Services? Can someone help to speed up the repair services? Appreciate if someone could help me out. I really need my car return ASAP. TQ.

Hi, I bought this second hand Ford Focus Trend LW Sedan 2.0 Petrol March 2016- manufacture year Sept 2012 from dealer at approx 43,500km. On 18th April, on my way back home the check engine lamp lighted and there was jerks and shuddering noise while I drive past 40km/h. As suggested in manual, I took it to SC- there was no availability and had book my car in on 29th- they did a software update and said everything was working fine.

On May 6th, the check engine lighted up back with same jerk/ shuddering issue. And the reverse would not work. I took it straight to SC. The guy came up with the diagnose tool/ computer and told me he managed to clear the error code. However he failed to give me a reason on what triggered the work. Now, they requested me to leave the car with them at SC to get checked with Ford. Hope it resolves.

Focus A/T H/B 1.6L V4

I bought a new car “Ford Focus” Model 2012 at July 2012 (Chassis # WF0KXXGCBKCK53902) and during 20,000 km maintenance (May 2014) the service center discovered a problem in the transmission box (They told me that this problem is a manufacturing defect) which was leaking oil through the oil seal and they changed the broken part (Clutch) and the oil seal with a new one which holding a new part number without any cost because the car was still during the warranty period.

During the first week in August 2014 and after one week from the warranty ending (the car only was about 21,000 km), the check engine lamp lighted and after the service center checked the car they told me that a part called catalytic “filter” failed although I am using 95 octane gasoline all the time and this problem also is a manufacturing defect but the car is being out of warranty (two years warranty) and I have to pay around LE 7,000 ($ 1,000) in order to change this part. After a long discussion with the agent, I think they sent an email to you to explain the problem and also to discuss a reasonable discount percentage for the price because they ensured that this problem is totally not my fault. Finally, They offered me a 50% discount to change the broken part and in my opinion this is not fair for Three reasons :

First : The agent told me that this part has a manufacturing defect and this is not my fault. Second : The car only has 21,000 km. Third : I am using 95 octane gasoline all the time. What can I do else ?

So, According to the Ford name and in order to preserve the credibility of the company, this part should be changed without any cost. And also, if the car has so many defects in manufacturing it, why is it still in the market?

Appreciate your response and feedback.

check engine light on

car shaking/stalling/check engine light reappears

My sister has been dealing with this ongoing issue with her car since about June 2013. She brought a 2012 Ford Focus in Jan 2013. She has been back and forth to Vic Bailey Ford in Spartanburg, SC and they have done nothing to improve the quality of her car. She complained to them in regards if the shaking of the car two so they have reprogrammed the car twice which is consider a Band-Aid to the situation. How can a company keep making a car that has so many problems with the dual-transmission. We have been to the Ford Service Center three times this week and nothing has been resolved are fixed. There is a recall on a part that is associated with the transmission the clutch it is the source of the problem but the service mgr and advisor have stated that the part is on back order and they should be getting it some. But what happens when she gets in a wreck do to the car stalling on her which almost happen yesterday. When her car stalled and truck almost hit her from the back. But when we took the car to Vic Bailey in Spartanburg, SC all they stated it's her tires making the excessive vibration. Now she at Vic Bailey again with the check engine light on and they don't know what is wrong with the car. I can tell what to do with the car take it off the market because something wasn't done right in these cars and before someone lose their life the car needs to be taken off the market.
