CarComplaints.com Notes: You should probably steer clear of the 2012 Focus. Otherwise, you might not be able to steer at all.

The 2012 is the first Focus to offer Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). It's also the first year with massive power steering failure. These things are not mutually exclusive.

And while you wait for your steering to disappear, you'll be greeted with a transmission that shudders, vibrates or won't shift at all.

We have had nothing but problems with our '12 focus. We now have an issue with our clutch. Again! The clutch was replaced by Ford two years ago, on them. Now the same problem has come up, the shuddering, the damn shuddering!! Everyone I call about this problem says the same thing. Oh, we know all about that problem. Ford wants $2200 for us to have this repaired. We feel this issue falls under a transmission problem, and that Ford should repair/replace the clutch. The aggravation is at a 10.

I bought this crappy Focus Feb. of 2016. I have had nothing but problems with the clutch! I car was fixed at least once before I bought it. I have now had the clutch replaced three times. My clutch is bad AGAIN. Ford will no longer fix it because they say I'm over the mileage and this is not a recall. How is this not a recall when they extended the warranty several times? They made me pay for a loaner car because I didn't buy the car directly from Ford. I am so upset with this issue! I have four years left to pay on this car. What can I do. Any ideas please let me know. BTW my extended warranty covers most everything but the clutch.

I helped my grandson buy this vehicle in good faith. Have had nothing but problems; first the transmission issue (over $2000 repair) and now 3 months later the transmission specialist tells me it is the clutch assembly to the tune of approx. $2500 to $3000. Ford does not admit any issues with this problem. Any suggestions because I plain cannot afford another $. I live on a fixed income and even though my grandson works he is only 19 and trying to make ends meet like any young person. Ford use to be a household name; NOW???? Not so much.

I FINALLY RECEIVED MY RECALL NOTICE. FORD HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 100,000 MILES, WHEN I GOT THE PAPER I WAS AT 102,000 MILES. THEY WOULDN'T DO A THING FOR ME. FORD DEALERSHIP WERE COMPLETE ASSHOLES SAID BECAUSE I WAS A GIRL I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. I HAD AN OASIS PULLED ON MY VEHICLE AND THEY STILL PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT THE CLUTCH WASN'T PULLED PREVIOUSLY. OASIS TOLD ME DIFFERENTLY.

BUNCH OF LIES AND NOW I'M SCREWED WITH A CAR THAT IS A P.O.S. AND THE NEW CLUTCH REPAIR STILL IS GOING TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE(ACCORDING TO ALL DEALERSHIPS I HAVE SPOKE TO) $3,500 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A REBUILT TRANS (NO LABOR) $2800 TO REPLACE JUST THE CLUTCH INCLUDING LABOR

STILL HAVE NO SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM!

Focus SEL 2.0L 4 cyl

When I accelerated from 1st to 2nd, it was jerky & I would have to let off the gas & then speed back up to stop it from jerking. I also heard grinding & rubbing when turning right a majority of the time. Took the car in & it fell under technical service bulletin 15-0120. They replaced the clutch assembly & oil seal assembly, reprogrammed the PCM/TCM & preformed adaptive learn procedure under the extended warranty offered by the TSB.
