The paint under both front doors began to peel a year or so ago. I figured it was just a paint problem. Saw the rust recently. Decided to take it to the body shop since it only has 79,000 . Figured it would be more cost effective than getting a different car. It will cost more than the car is worth to replace the parts that are rusting away. It obviously was rusting long before it was discovered. The body shop said they see a lot of this with Ford Focus.
I didn't crawl under the car to look at it when I bought it. My mistake. When I got it home to my garage, I did crawl under to view the underside body of the car expecting it to be pristene. It was heavily brown rusted and crusty on the front axils enough that you could collect rust under your fingernails just by lightly scratching it with your fingers, and also all parts connecting to the four wheels front and rear on the underside. I returned to dealer complain. He said there was nothing they could do because that was normal.
