My door locks have been giving me problems for the past six months or so. It started out with one door locking and being very difficult to open with the handle inside or outside of the car. It feels like the lock is jammed or something. Now both my rear passenger doors are locked and will not open. I actually had a passenger in the back seat when this happened and they had to climb out the trunk to exit the car (they were too big to climb over the seat to exit the front). This is a huge safety issue. If there was an accident or a fire, these passengers could not get out.

I am taking the car in for repair at the Ford dealership due to the fact that I can't even get the doors open to diagnose or fix myself. I am posting this so all can be aware and maybe Ford can do a recall on the issue.

The latch mechanism on the rear doors of My Focus SE failed intermittently at first but now the don't work at all. my car is 30 days past warranty and id like to explain why this is such a big safety issue.

-The rear door mechanism is the lock and latch all in one. -The interior handle DOES NOT operate the latch independently, rather it manipulates the outside latch mechanism to open the door. -The interior mechanical components of the lock are soft (cheap) plastic, I know because I inspected it and after time i'm sure most will fail, -If the door is locked, the door cannot open from either side. -There is no way to manually unlock the electric mechanism (pulling on the Indicator or Finger) -In an emergency situation the rear passengers CANNOT exit THEIR doors -And the Kicker. If you cannot figure out how to unlock the door, then you cannot open it to replace the faulty mechanism.

If any one else has this problem i encourage you to take the time and report it here. More importantly PLEASE call Fords Customer Care Center (1 800 565 3673) and voice your concerns about safety. Most owners have expired warranties at this point. and Ford will ask you to get an out of pocket diagnosis of the problem. Trust me that it is better to replace the latch than pay for a diagnosis. Ask them to return the old latch to you or ensure that they understand the safety concerns and have documented them.

If you just want to be able to open the door here is how i do it. The latch seems to have over centered on my car ( the mechanism went past its normal stopping point) it gets stuck and needs help. since i cant pull it up what i do is PUSH DOWN WHILE HITTING THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON MY FOB. you should feel the lock break free after a try or two. after that unlock it again and it should open. At least you can replace the latch now.

the door locks lock up and you can't open the doors from inside or outside this is a serious safety hazard, we have had all 4 door locks replaced and are now starting the second go round the ford dealer tells us we have to wash the door locks and spray wd40 so they will keep working how dumb is that. we don't know what to do and ford is doing nothing about it. we,ve been there 6 times to get the door locks replaced. we really don't want this car as it is unsafe to have those doors lock. has anyone else had this problem and what did ford do. where do we go with our complained.my wife was riding in the back seat when both back doors quit working you know how hard it is to crawl over the front seat to get outand this is a new car very disappointing
