CarComplaints.com Notes: Even though the first model year of a major redesign should typically be avoided, Ford did a good job & the 2008 Ford Focus doesn't appear to have any major defects.
That said, the following model years of this 2nd generation Focus (2009-2011) do appear to be slightly better.
I noticed a rattling under the car, which sounded like a loose heat shield or something. It was really apparent when down shifting, making turns in town, and climbing hills. Took it in to the dealer & apparently this is a common complain. Their was a note about the problem in the Ford Computer Database. The plasic shield in the front fender wells are oversized. They tend to rub on the springs. They had to shear the excess plastic off to fix the problem. I'm pretty sure the dealer I took mine too trimmed the shield up while it was still on the car. It looks terrible! Not to mention, they scratched they hell out of the paint on the backside of the fender. I am concerned about rust spots forming on the bare metal. You can bet I will be asking them to touch this up.
