CarComplaints.com Notes: Even though the first model year of a major redesign should typically be avoided, Ford did a good job & the 2008 Ford Focus doesn't appear to have any major defects.

That said, the following model years of this 2nd generation Focus (2009-2011) do appear to be slightly better.

have own this car since new, for the spark plug to blow out at 67000 miles with original factory installed spark plugs is truly unbelievable. fix is either take chance on band aid fix, pull the head hope no lower motor damage or replace engine. most diagnosis is either wrong torque when installing or cross threading when installing both done at a ford factory. so much for buying American, though my last 2 purchases are Chryslers plus 2006 t&c. I have already moved on from ford, hoping my Chrysler's (2006 t&c, 2011 200 limited v6, 2014 dodge journey v6 awd.

Focus SE 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission

Three of the four spark plugs have blown out of the engine block. Some came out again even after inserting helicoil bushings to repair the blown threads. Now I don't know what to do next. A new or rebuilt head costs too much and I don't have a place to work on it. Need help!!!!

Focus SE 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 150,600 miles

I noticed a shutter while driving about a week before the spark plug blew out. I was stuck on the side of the road waiting for help with 2 kids in February in Minnesota. Thankfully no fires or serious injury as a result of this. My husband had to leave work to come diagnose the issue. We have been Ford loyal, but I am ready to call it quits.

Blown out spark plug, third time it's happened and this last time it stripped the threads in the head. I've been told it was improper torque or mis-threading of spark plug. REALLY! First time it happened was with factory installed plugs. They're saying extended warranty probably won't cover it and if a heli-coil is used it will be $600 or more if head needs replaced.
