CarComplaints.com Notes: Even though the first model year of a major redesign should typically be avoided, Ford did a good job & the 2008 Ford Focus doesn't appear to have any major defects.
That said, the following model years of this 2nd generation Focus (2009-2011) do appear to be slightly better.

2008 Ford Focus SE - 2.0L Duratec (4-spd auto) Vapor Silver
The fan speed control knob/ dial Works on 1, 2 and 4. When you turn the Dial to speed 3. It makes No speed change. So 1-2 you will see a speed change, 2-3 (3 stays the same speed as 2 ) ....then go from 3-4 and 4 function as 4 would on highest setting. I can only presume this is the Blower Motor Resistor or perhaps relating to the blower motor. I will check back in. Granted we did buy the car in June of 2008 new so it is now 8years old. But the car currently only has 52,000km on it. Disappointing to say the least. I'll update this post with more details when it is fixed.
