The contact owns a 2007 Ford Focus. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at an undisclosed speed and turning, the steering wheel became stiff, and the contact heard scraping sounds emanating from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the residence and inspected. The contact observed condensation on top of the power steering pump and the ground underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected, and a power steering fluid was added to the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to three independent mechanics where it was diagnosed twice that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 198,000.

Have had the car for two years. Bought from private party. Have had no major issues till a few days ago. While driving steering wheel all of a sudden became very loose. You can move it back and forth with about an inch of play it didn't have before, all directions.. took it to dealer for repair and asked if this model has had issues with it. They told me know. In looking on internet, I find many people complaining and with videos of exactly the same problem I have. Basically the wheel nut that holds the steering wheel in place comes loose. I should also state that my car presently has only 100,200 miles on it, so while older year wise, it doesn't have excessive miles driven and for amount of time. I find highly unusual that it would come loose. I have talked to friends and know of no one else that has ever had a steering wheel come loose. It is loose driving, parked, off. Nothing matters.

Alternator suddenly failed while driving. I had no control of the car while in traffic including the steering. The alternator was replaced. Approximately 3 years later on July 2, 2012, the same thing happened. Sudden alternator failure while driving with no ability to control the vehicle. Because the electrical system had a total failure I could not steer the vehicle, turn on the hazard flashers, or signal the traffic behind me that I was slowing down because the brake lights could not function. Terribly dangerous. On July 6, 2013, alternator #3 failed and burned out the battery as well. Ford Motor Company apologized for the inconvenience and said it was my problem because it was out of warranty and there was no recall. Inconvenience? that takes the cake. I don't know why there is not a recall on this defect and it is clearly a safety issue. Sudden electrical failure on a highway at high speed with no way to steer the car or warn other drivers merits a recall. The web is awash with complaints about sudden and repeated failure of the electrical system in the 2007 Ford Focus.

Air bag light is illuminated or on. However, my car has never been in an accident or collision. Power steering on the car went bad. I had to get it replaced. Wanted to know if there are any recalls for both of these issues. I bought this car new. Should I be experiencing problems this soon?

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Focus. He stated that while driving at 45 mph, the power steering became extremely stiff and difficult to steer. In addition, the vehicle also began to lose power and independently decelerate. The contact was able to move the vehicle from the roadway and discovered the belt tensioner had fractured. The belt was replaced two years prior to the failure. The dealer advised the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The manufacturer would not provide any assistance. The failure and current mileages were 81,000.

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the driver's side air bag sensor would continuously illuminate on the instrument panel. The dealer removed the entire dashboard in order to replace the mechanism. The repairs were covered under warranty. Less than a year later, the vehicle was taken to the dealer again for routine maintenance to the steering wheel. It was discovered that the passenger side rear door would not lock and the driver's side air bag sensor continued to illuminate on the instrument panel. The dealer could not duplicate the failures. A diagnostic was performed; however, no error codes were produced. The contact also stated that while making left or right turns, the steering wheel felt as if it would pop off. The dealer found a defect with the steering column and had the component replaced. The service manager at the Ford dealer stated that there may be an issue with the air bags for a plethora of reasons. The contact stated that the driver of the vehicle does not feel safe operating the vehicle. He was very leary of operating the vehicle on the highway due to the fact of not having a functioning air bag in the event of a crash. No additional repairs have been made to the air bags. The failure mileage was 31,000 and current mileage was 53,786.

Year of vehicle: 2007 make: Ford model: Focus SE date of purchase: July 2007 selling/: spreen Honda odometer @ purchasing: 24,900 current mileage: 49,000 problem(s) with the following: Transmission - repair attempts: SRS/airbag lamp - repair attempts: Steering shake/vibration - repair attempts: Seat belt repair/replacement - repair attempts: Air bag light is back on again in the 'on' position - multiple repair attempts: Complaint to dealer: Yes. Cld spreen Honda spoke to owner who sent me to a salesman. The next time I returned it to fritz dealership (since they did orig work), for same probs & I was told I wouldn't get a courtesy car and they had no idea how long it would take for repairs. The interior airbag light was in the 'on' position, the transmission began slipping, the front end was shaking like before. Car was returned the 2nd time for the same problems. I was told it was defective parts & had to be ordered. No courtesy car this time like the first time so I was stranded (I'm disabled and nd trans). The car is falling apart little by little with the back door handle broken completely. The seller (spreen Honda) said I would hv to get a new loan on a new vehicle instead of 'exchanging vehicles' as promised in my conversations with the owner, at spreen Honda, place of purchase. I refused this 'hustle' because this was not what I was told over the phone, but after 2nd set of repairs, the car would be replaced...not me purchase another car and give up another down payment! I didn't agree to this and walked out. This car has been under repair for weeks off/on for the same or similar problem I.e., the transmission first repair was only a few months after purchase, along with front end shaking. I was given a courtesy car while repairs we done w/out the 1st time, but not the 2nd. I was told my car had a 'defective part' & had ordered it. The car has been returned again for same probs mentioned above. Airbag light is bk on again and transmission slip.

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Focus. The contact stated that there was a windshield defect because it was not intact. The sealant was placed on the roof of the vehicle, which contributed to the faulty windshield. She also stated that there was an alignment issue that caused the vehicle to steer to the left while driving 70 mph. The vehicle mats were steamed by the dealer and never dried. As a result, the windows were frosted inside the passenger compartment. The contact found rust in the dashboard components and the fuse box. The current mileage was 897 and failure mileage was 692.

I was driving a 2007 Ford Focus that I had rented on a major highway under good weather conditions, mid-morning, good light, no curves, no distractions, light traffic. The car began to veer to the right. I turned the steering wheel to correct it and it didn't respond. When I turned it a little further, the car abruptly turned on a sharp angle to the left. The steerng was completely out of control. I swerved again to the right, then left. I was unable to maneuver it and was about to hit the median when I was hit on the driver's side door (I crossed the far left lane in front of another driver). The impact caused the side of the car to indent more than 1 foot. I was wearing my seatbelt. I was forced forward so hard that the seatbelt broke my collar bone. I also have several broken ribs and a hand injury. The air bags did not deploy. The steering went completely out of control. The car is currently under examination by engineers who have told me that I'm lucky to be alive, given the damage to the car, which is a total loss; I had to be extricated from it.
