June 6, 2006 bought a brand new Ford Focus right out of the showroom, it had 18 miles on it at the time of purchase. Two weeks later I'm driving down our city's busiest street during rush hour and the car stalled in the middle of the road, just completely cut off and the check engine light came on. My young daughter is in the backseat, my mom in the passenger seat, we're almost rear ended because a car coming up the road didn't realize we were stopped. The car is towed to the dealership & I'm given a rental. The next day they told me, nothing was wrong with the engine, that a code had to be cleared. HELLOOO A CODE!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? I'm no ones genius but I highly doubt a code is gonna make my car take a dump in the middle of a street! I get the car back and it ran fine for awhile. Then whenever I came to a stop sign, or was in stop and go traffic, or at a light and about to drive, the car would sputter and buck around like a Bronco as if it were going to cut off, and unless I accelerated pretty quickly it WOULD cut off. Back to the dealership I went, they took it for a test drive with and without me in the vehicle, the car would not perform its magic act for them, JUST ME. This would especially happen in the mornings when it was cold, the car did not like to start and when it did start I'd sputter all the way to my destination and prayed I didn't stall at a light. This went on for the first 4 months I owned the vehicle, never did I find out what was wrong, they kept telling me nothing was wrong. I brought the car to a different Ford dealership, was told the same thing. I spent more time in rentals during those months than in my "new" car. I begged, pleaded, even threatened this dealership to take back the lemon they sold me, but because they kept coming up with "nothings wrong it" I didn't have the 3 fix rule for the lemon law. I'm convinced I was sold a car that was in Katrina and if not then someone didn't drink enough Folgers at the Ford plant the day they put my toilet on wheels together. Its a shame because I ended up being stuck with the piece of crap and its been one headache after another. I'm waiting for the wheels to fall off and the engine to drop out next.
My car has been in the shop a dozen times to fix this problem. 5 mass air flow sensors. a couple of thermostats, and even a new computer counldn't fix it. that last thing they did was run a new wire from the sending unit to the air flow sensor to get it to turn off. This car is more problems then it worth. A check engine light doesn't sound like a big deal, well it is when your car has to sit 2 months because it doesn't pass emissions. I will never buy a ford focus again.
