Since purchased, I've had to replace the rear tires every 3 months. They're worn to the wire - it rattles and sways as it's going down the highway and the transmission smells. When going downhill and uphill it drops speed and jerks. It seems going downhill, I smell rubber burning. It's been a costly car.
Second trip to Mayo Clinic 900 mi. and noticed loud hum from rear end. Next rest stop seem rear tires were worn /cupped really bad. installed new tires on front and put front on rear. Est 2000 mi later same trip back to Mayo clinic same load noise and same problem. Got home and went to dealer and of course they say NO problem reported..... that was 5 yrs ago. Car hasn't been on road since then, only in town.
No help from dealer I got it from. was rusted and after my cash was handed out said I was told the car did come from up north but was inspected and there was no problems.
The last set of tires were 107.00 ea.We have run them 20,300 mi.When they were mounted they were aligned and balanced.We had them rotated with 10 thousand miles,then again 9/15 with 20,300 mi.When we left town we noticed we were finding ourselves yelling at each other due to the noise caused by the uneven wear.The noise was transfered from the road through ththe inadequate amount of rubber between the road and rim,to the frame and thence into the interior of the vehicle.The same proble m occured with the first set of tires suggested by our dealer.I feel the vehicle was never designed to accomodate this combination of low profile tires and oversized rims.I honestly feel that this is an engineeering shortcoming and quite frankly something I can continue to expect as long as I own the vehicle,which I love dearly.My wife and I have agreed that after discussing the problem that our thoughts of purchasing another Focus this year would have to be reconsidered,as no recall or reimbursements have ever been offered and the service manager at Nelson Ford (kevin) said that others have had the same problem and it "seemed to be a characteristic of this vehicle".Seems odd that Ford doesn't come forth with a solution or at least an apology for the problem.I have absolutely no other issues with our Focus.Thanks for allowing me to ask for a resolution.
