I bought a used 2005 Ford Focus from the local Ford dealership. Only 35,000 miles on it, mint condition, one owner, and great gas mileage, all for about $8,000 dollars. Sweet deal, right? Wrong.
Within a few days of buying the car, I noticed problems with the engine starting. I would twist the key, and the engine would turn over a few times. Sometimes it would start, sometimes it would die, and I would have to try and start it again. Well, I took it back to the dealership on Monday, July 25th. (I had bought the car on July 13th.) I dropped it off, talked to the mechanic, and he said he would take a look at it.
The mechanic calls me the next day, and tells me I need a new fuel pump. This should NOT happen on a car that only has 35,000 miles on it. The quote he gave me? $1,096 dollars. After a few days of arguing with the dealership, we finally got them to pick up half of the bill. However, this is not only a complaint about the car, but also about Ford, and the way they handled it.
Ford initially denied picking up ANY of the bill. Their reasoning? We didn't buy the extended warranty. I had the car for TWELVE DAYS before it was back in the shop, they consider that extended? We've bought three cars from them. My sisters car, my mothers car, and now my car. Never again.
I called the dealership back later in the day, after the mechanic gave me the quote. I spoke with the salesman, mechanic, and the financial manager. After pleading my case to them, and justifying why I thought they deserved to cover the bill, they STILL denied us. It took speaking to the general manager to manage even a little progress in this case. Even after speaking with him, they still only agreed to pay half of the bill.
I am disappointed, Ford. You have lost a customer, to Chevy.
