This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
My vehicle instrument cluster failed causing alternator to die and false readings on the dash with multiple alerts such as battery, airbag, oil and incorrect speed dial. The vehicle instrument failed at 30,000 miles and if you search it is a very common issue with the Ford Focus vehicle's. the vehicle staled and died while being drove in town and thank god it did not happen while on the highway.
Driving my 2004 Ford Focus, when I turn on the left blinker and it starts blinking very fast so I assume it needs a new bulb or fuse. I go to replace the bulb only to find that the housing unit holding the bulb for the blinker is melted. Now I have to replace the entire thing and this cost me $120 dollars. Fast forward six months, not only is the left blinker out but now the right blinker as well, and guess what same problem not just a bulb but both housing units have melted and need to be replaced. Looked to see if there is a recall on this issue, since one, it is the material of the car the heat generated by the manufactures bulb and it continues to happen even when replaced with normal driving. Plus no blinkers is a huge safety issue. No recall! looks like Ford thinks melting car parts on their vehicles is normal.
2004 Focus belt tensioner broke and battery failed. The front door had to be aligned and the door seal was replaced. The throttle cable had to be re-routed due to the cable binding. The front wheel bearings were replaced. The left rear motor assembly was replaced, the 3rd brake light lens and right side cv axle was replaced. The transmission started shifting erratically. The consumer attempted to make a turn, and the transmission would shift from 1st to 2nd gear until the engine revved up past 6000 RPM. The consumer was told there was a problem with the servo pistons. The transmission was eventually repaired. The battery failed 5 times.
