Contact complained about a fuel injection system problem. When the car came to a full stop the engine turned off. An independent mechanic advised the contact to take the car to the dealer, which she has not done. Additionally, the turning lights were not returning to the original position when used. She purchased the car from a family member. Therefore, she did not know the dealer's name.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Focus. There is NHTSA recall 03V482000 regarding the fuel system for this year, make, and model vehicle, but this vehicle is not included in the recall.. he experienced loss of power while driving. The vehicle stalled four times. There was hesitation and a vibration with before it lost power. The vehicle stalled approximately 50 times before the contact could actually drive the vehicle after it was parked. This usually happened after the vehicle has been parked overnight. But it does happen sometimes at random. No warning lights illuminated, indicating that there is a problem with the vehicle.. the service dealer states that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle and can not offer any assistance. The manufacturer said that this vehicle was not included in the recall because it had a different fuel delivery system. They referred him to the dealership to have the vehicle repaired at his own cost.
Consumer noticed fuel rail system was leaking gasoline, resulting in stalling. Independent shop cleaned the fuel injection an throttle cable. Dealer was notified.
Vehicle stalled with no warning and would not start back up for about 5 minutes, it seemed as if the accelerator was not pumping because gas seemed to not get to the right place. I was also driving at a high speed with my foot on accelerator and the gauge went down. It also happened at a lower speed.
The car initially stalled upon starting in may of 2002. The dealer was contacted and a new fuel pump was placed on the vehicle. The vehicle was then driven until October of 2002, at that time, it stalled in slow traffic two times in one day. The dealer was contacted and a second fuel pump was placed on the vehicle. Approximately one week later, while traveling at 70 mph, passing a semi-tractor trailer on the interstate, the car stalled. It took 15 minutes to restart and was driven immediately to the Ford dealer. The car was in the shop from October 24th until Nov 12, 2002. At that time, they were unable to duplicate the failure, they then placed another fuel pump on the car and removed the gas tank. Contamination was found in the fuel tank. It was cleaned and a new screen placed on the car. On November 4, 2002, the service manager contacted me and said that he could not find the problem. Two days later I read the ODI resume on the Ford Focus investigation EA02-02 basis PE02-040.
