Report written about 2000 Ford Focus. There was a three car accident. The air bags deployed, however the consumer did not remember being involved in a collision, the consumer stated the vehicle was at a stop. It was noted that the air bag system did have a previous problem where several contact pins in the electrical connector in the steering column were replaced.
Front air bags did not deploy. I was rear-ended and pushed into a Toyota landcruiser and my car has 4,000 worth of damage to the front and rear bumpers.
While driving down the road, suddenly, there was a loud boom, followed by the airbags deploying & the wind shield shattering. I stopped the car, placed it in park, turned off the engine & yelled at my children to jump out of the car. A gentleman, driving behind me stopped, looked at the car & called 911. He then proceeded to start the car back up & drive it to the side of the road. After the police came, checked the road & filled out the report, I then turned the car around & drove it back to my girlfriend's house & parked it. The next day, I drove it to my aunt's house & parked it in her driveway until Monday when it was towed to the dealership ( where it is still located ) there was no car in front of me when this incident happened, & there is no damage to the body of the car.
While driving on highway lost control and vehicle hit highway divider on left side. Then skidded to left side of highway and hit a guardrail and went into a tree. Upon impact, frontal air bags did not deploy.
The consumer rear-ended another vehicle traveling 12 mph. The collision was very minor. However the driver and passenger air bags deployed which caused over $4000 in damage to the vehicle.

Also stated that while driving the car at 15mph hit the vehicle on front of him and his air bags deployed causing phisical damage to the consumer. Dealer was contacted and stated that there was nothing that they could.
