Consumer stated: Deffective gas tank and pump. Dealer said between gas tank and gas pump the screw was warped and did not make a seal. Part was plastic and manufactured that way. It has been leaking since purchase of vehicle.
This complaint is concerning clarification of our previous complaints to NHTSA regarding the 2000 Ford Focus : #10104088 and #10107840. I am extremely concerned about the misinterpretation of data collected by your Agency and posted for public review. Deaths are not posted, nor are they included as injuries. This misrepresents the seriousness of the vehicle and equipment failures reported.
In July I had to have the fuel pump and sensor replaced as the guage would read empty when the tank was full. Today, the car stalled while I was parking it. I smelled gasoline and got out of the car to find a large amount of gas leaking all over the ground. I then had to have the car towed to the dealer, as the car is still under warrenty. However, before the car could be towed I had to call the fire dept. As aaa will not tow a car leaking gas until they get an ok from the fire dept.
