Had the 2000 Focus approximately 1 year nothing but problems, running rough, engine light, reading the series of complaints similar to mine. Small L shaped connector tube with hole only showed after $140 diagnosis, but since it was readily visible, and solved a problem for a very short time, why charge a customer for a diagnosis.
Ford apparently did not put a good product on the road with this model. I personally will never purchase another Ford. However, the 2000 Focus is a great revenue stream for mechanics and dealerships. Solution the only car I will ever buy now is a "TOYOTA". Not listening to media hype. The facts speak for themselves fact is Toyota's outlast and run far better than Fords, My Toyota has twice the mileage, yes twice the mileage and no where near the problems. Toyotas are very reliable and people, including myself, are not looking for disposable cars like a 2000 Focus. I am putting my Focus on craigslist for parts and the body, indicating the engine is not running, and suggesting anyone who thinking they could fix it should do some research. Again solution buy TOYOTA!!! That is the only car I will ever buy again.
