Here's a serious safety defect that needs to be corrected. Since I bought my 2000 Focus zts (with less than 45,000 miles on it) it has had all the recall services done (six, if I recall correctly) and two windshields replaced too (due to edge cracks developing). This week a serious new problem surfaced: A wire sheared off within a connector that goes to the ignition coil, part of the main engine harness. I was traveling and all of a sudden the engine simply died. If this happened in traffic or on the highway, a serious accident would have resulted. Luckily, I was on a quiet street. This is a manufacturing defect that Ford should acknowledge and correct at no charge to the owner. To make the matter worse, the dealer tells me that the connector that failed is not available from Ford as a replacement part -- the whole main engine harness has to be replaced, with more than eight hours of labor required, plus the cost of the harness. It will end up costing close to a thousand dollars. If the connector were available it would cost under three hundred dollars to repair.

Dealership treated us like criminals(my wife and I) they gave us a rental, and harassed us about the rental even though by Maine lemon laws, they are supposed to provide us with one. They threatened the police with us for theft of the rental. I noticed on your web-site yesterday that one day prior to our fire NHTSA started an investigation pertaining to vehicle fires on 2000 Focus. We have attained the services of an attorney in this matter. Thank you for all your help.
Rear brake lights have failed to operate and to communicate to other drivers vehicle was slowing or stopping. Dealership has not examined vehicle to determine cause of problem. Also, consumer was informed tha vehicle was not included in recall campaign 00V411000/wiring harness due to VIN. Please provide any additional information / documentation.
While driving vehicle at approximately 40mph it would suddenly die out without any warning. Would lose all power steering and brakes. Taken to dealership each time and had speedometer repaired/ wiring harness replaced, and brain box of computer repaired. After each repair problem would reappear. Manufacturer is buying back vehicle.
