Ford 2000 Focus ignition lock failure - locksmith websites talk about this and offer special parts to fix it - why doesn't Ford take ownership of this latent defect that is ruining quality. This is just the icing on the cake of the 2000 Focus and its laundry list of recalls (4 more in the works as I understand it). This is a prevalent mechanical failure and is actionable. If there is a class action suit on this contact me to join.
Ignition key would not turn ignition. Had to call in locksmith to replace. Ford dealerships not helpful. Apparently this is common problem with Focus. Locksmith said he has worked on 100's of Ford Focus with same problem. Car rental Agency said same thing about their Ford Focus fleet. Ignition key either locks up in ignition or fails to turn.

When I tried to insert my key into the ignition, it refused to go in, almost like it was the wrong key. I called the Ford dealership and they advised me to call Ford roadside assistance for a tow to their dealership. The tow truck driver told me she had towed serveral Focus' in the last month with the same problem. Bob turner Ford kept my car from Friday to Monday saying they had to put in a new ignition system. I wasn't charged because my Focus is still under warranty.
Ignition cylinder failed and had to be replaced, the dealership had 4 other Focus' with the same problem, my normal mechanic had also seen 4 other Focus' with this problem, I reported it to Ford company's customer service center but they just said they'd look into it. Also, my cruise control does not work, nor do the electrical locks. I don't know if the ignition cylinder could have went out during operation, luckily it didn't for me. My cruise control stopped working after I received a recall notice on the cruise control and took it in for the necessary repairs.

Dealer pulled off wheel and went into the ignition, and fixed a part. Vehicle stalled for the third time but consumer managed to start the vehicle.

Consumer was having a difficult time entering key into ignition. Mechanic stated that vehicle had a lock switch that had malfunctioned. Consumer contacted customer service and was told that this condition was a familiar one with the Ford Focus and that the engineers have not received enough complaints to consider the problem a recall. Dealer replaced ignition lock cylinder and offered to pay 60% of cost.
Tried to put key into the ignition, key wouldn't go it. Had car towed to dealer and it took a week to get fixed. Had to argue to get a loaner car in the meantime and no one at Ford was helpful at all and insisted that this was not a big problem. Shortly before this happened, the steering and rack and pinion had to be replaced because of a fluid leak. Last week, when attempting to start the car (it had not been started all weekend), the engine wouldn't turn over and the dealer had to replace the fuel pump. Today while driving to work, the steering wheel became very loose and pulled away from the steering column. Took the car immediately to the dealer and they put it back on. Have had nothing but problems with this car. Lots of recall work and all these other issues too. Car is at dealer for service on average every four months. This was my first new car, but now I will never buy another Ford and am getting rid of this one asap.
Steering wheel and ignition switch locked up while, repair/replace ignition switch three times. Automatic transmission shifter will not come out of park position, trunk will not close properly, front brake disk pads had to be replace, because the pads separated from the backing plate.
Faulty ignition switch caused the key to not insert or once insert the key could not be removed from the ignition, this problem also caused the vehicle to stall. Nlm
The steering wheel and ignition switch locked up, on another occasion the steering wheel locked up in the right position while the drivr was backing into a driveway, the rear wheel bearings had to be replaced due to road noise, the ignition switch came out of the steering column when the drivers attempted to remove the key from the ignition. Vehicle stalls without warning at various speeds. Losing all power and steering wheel locks up. Dealer notified 4 times. First 3 times they did nothing, fourth time they said they replaced air intake valve. The morning after we got the car out of the shop it stalled again while driving 55mph. We are tired of getting the run around and are hesitant to contact dealer again concerning this problem. 2nd problem- put key into ignition and key wouldn't turn. Car had to be towed to dealer where they kept it for a week. I was told it had to do with the ignition cylinder and key had to be coded. These are only 2 of the many problems we have had with our vehicle, but it is ridiculous for a new car to have so many malfunctions and problems.
To start vehicle key in ignition switch and ignition computer chip must be in sync with one another. When its not in sync, vehicle can stall out while driving in middle of traffic. Had taken vehicle to dealership, and mechanic replaced computer chip and ignition switch/ key. Stalling problem has reappeared.
Right rear wheel bearing caused car to swerve violently at 55mph, driver slowed to 20mph to avoid being pulled off road. Driver tried to slowly drive to repair station but car kept wobbling on road so stopped and had car towed into garage..ignition /lock system failed in January and left driver stranded. Car could not be started. In another problem that occured in October 2000 the fuel assembly recall was not properly repaired and caused car accelerator to not function. The car would only go 1-3mph at full acelleration. This was very dangerous in traffic. I do not have paperwork on this incident but problem was corrected at bergstrom Ford, neenah, wi 54956
