Leave the interior dome lights on which can lead to the battery draining overnight.

Refuse to lock the doors when the vehicle is in motion. A safety concern for anyone, but especially those owners with kids.

The key fob won’t be able to lock the doors when you leave the car parked. Hello, thieves!

Flex Limted

  • Automatic transmission
  • 33,000 miles

Just like all of the others, my Ford Flex has the door ajar problem. It thinks the door is open when it is not. Because of this it will not automatically lock the car when I start (I have toddlers so this is important). It is draining my battery. The alarm is randomly going off in the middle of the night, too. I brought it in and Ford says they cannot replicate the door ajar problem. I show them all of the complaints and it does not matter. What a joke. I loved the car for three years and now tell everyone to stay clear.

CONSTANT DOOR AJAR WARNING WHEN ALL DOORS ARE CLOSED (OR OPEN) DRAINS BATTERY AND CONTINUALLY SETS OFF CAR ALARM. DOORS NO LONGER LOCK WHEN CAR IS IN MOTION. DOORS CANNOT BE LOCKED ONCE PARKED OR ALARM WILL SOUND WITHIN 10-15 MINUTES. ISSUE HAS DRAINED MULTIPLE BATTERIES AND STRANDED OWNER. DOME LIGHTS COME ON UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT - ISSUE OCCURS ON STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. FORD DEALER RECOMMENDS REPLACING ALL DOOR LATCHES AT >$200 A PIECE WITH NO GUARANTEE OF ISSUE NOT RECURRING.

Flex SEL 3.5L V6 Dohc 24v

This is a recurring issue and and incredibly expensive repair for a faulty switch (~$600 with parts and labour).

In our case this has happened twice, this complaint outlines the first time (date and mileage is an approximation since I'm entering this complaint after the fact), but there are many reports of this happening many, many times, even on the same vehicle.

The first time for us was the drivers side front door. Luckily this occurred during the term of our extended warranty and was repaired without charge , eventually... (It took a LOT of complaints/arguments with the dealership service dept manager and Ford Canada to have the dealership categorize this as an issue with the safety related "door ajar" section of the warranty... They initially insisted on it being categorized as the door latch, which apparently wouldn't have been covered...)

Not looking forward to the next door sensor to go... but fully expect it too... very disappointed...

Same Issue and many others. Door Ajar light stays on for passenger door. Dealer will not fix as part of a defective part provided by Ford. We have already gone through a battery due to the lights staying on.

Also the safety issue of the door not locking while the car in in motion, since the car thinks the door is open.

I have the same problem as many other Flex owners the driver and passenger door ajar sensor stays on ,interior lights stays on doors will not lock and the alarm goes off when car is parked and locked. I have replaced two batteries in 3 years that I have owned the car. It is really frustrating to continue with the same problem over and over. I have had it replaced and the problem persists.

Me....Again :( Now the 3rd faulty sensor on the passenger side back door is acting up. Called Ford Canada to log the complaint - I actually spoke with the same rep as back in May...she noted my concern. I'm going to take another run at her useless boss. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY A FORD PRODUCT....EVER. They need to do right by their customers, put on their big boy pants and own up to their mistakes and crappy products. Come on Ford - be bold! take the hit on the chin and your big bonuses to take responsibility for the junk you produce. I will not go back to a dealership to have anything fixed and will look for aftermarket parts where possible. I really used to like Ford - I guess things change. SUCH a disappointment taking a chance on a North American brand again...their bottom-feeder reputation for quality has not changed.

I'd like Ford to put out a recall for this issue. It's being done on other Ford vehicles, Why not the Flex??? Ive been a pretty loyal customer to the brand, But now I'm beginning to look at other brands. Hopefully it will be added to the recall and I can get it fixed

The door ajar light has been coming on in my Ford Flex for months and months. I took it to the dealership a few months ago for this and they sprayed lube in it but did not fix the problem. I took it back a few days ago while it was doing it and showed the service writer and left it running so the tech would see it. So after waiting 1 1/2 hours I went out to see what was going on and the tech came over and said they could not duplicate it. So I said I have been sitting here for this long and you didn't fix it!!! So he turned it over to another service writer, mine was at lunch. He told me they would have to order the part for it and would call me when it got here. I have extended warranty with a $100 deductible. I told the service writer there was a universal problem with these door ajar lights on escapes and flexes I believe, and Ford Motor needs to man up and pay for it!!!!!!!!!!!!

When the light comes on, it thinks the driver's door is not closed, so it keeps binging and says door ajar and shift to park and the inside lights come on. But it all stops until you are driving and you stop and then go again, and it starts all over again every time you stop at a light or for whatever reason you stop. It is starting to come on at night while I am driving down the road for no reason and it makes it very hard to see the road when the inside lights are on!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very annoying and could lead to bad things, especially if I can't see the road at night!!!!

Door Ajar warning always on, interior lights go on and off, car alarm goes off intermittently.

Ford dealer said all was caused by door latch. I have premium extended warranty that does NOT cover that particular part. Very disappointing and seems like a common problem.

Funny, I looked up a an executive's LinkedIn profile for the extended warranty group and her career focus is minimizing cost. No mention anywhere about customer satisfaction.

Flex Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 53,000 miles

This type thing is what really worried me of all the electronics on these new vehicles. All started in February when needed to go to a funeral and the remote key would not start it. Once returned in two days called roadside assistance and they said it was the batteries in remote start switch. Fixed and bought two new spare batteries. Then lights inside would not work when door opens and still doesn't unless this replacement of the door switch solves that. Next the front passenger door "NOT CLOSED" light comes on and can turn off so know it is closed.

NEXT the car alarm goes off at 11:00 p.m. And wakes my neighbor and he comes and tells me. I don't know what to do but it shut off when I got in and started it than shut off. Next day the alarm goes off again at 3:00 p.m. And I catch it.

Call dealer and set up and now 3 days later I am getting my car back with an awful bill. Obviously this Ford is going to be expensive to maintain. ??? $500 plus dollars for the diagnostics and a switch and a fuse. May have to seriously have to consider getting an older car that's more maintenance free like a Honda or Toyota.

The door ajar light comes on whether or not the door has been touched. As a result, my battery continues to run down. I have to call roadside assistance to come out and jump my car. After that's exhausted, I have to loosen the battery cable when I get out at night and connect it in the morning. I also have to do this when I go to work.
