So this car has been surging for 6 years and I complained to the dealership several times but, they could not replicate the problem Ford Corp. Denied a problem existed.
This surging has been very dangerous but no one had a fix.
Ford finally sends out a Service Notice acknowledging and they need to clean or replace throttle body. In the meantime, all this surging caused damage to the Head of my engine and that needs to be fixed.
I changed the oil every 7-10k miles and this car was well maintained.
We purchased the car used Ford 500 2007 8 months ago through Franklin ford in Franklin NC. About two months ago, the car started revving after our foot was off the gas. It would do it forwards and backwards, and is still doing it. We almost hit a wall while trying to park the car as it started to surge ahead. Please tell us what we can do if somebody knows. Is there a recall on this problem? We do not have the money to fix it. Is it costly to repair? Is it considered very dangerous to use the car?
A TRUE SAFTEY PROMBEM !! THE CAR SURGES IN FOWARD AND REVERSE. IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENTS WHILE BACKING OUT OF PARKING PLACES. THE CAR MOVES 3 TO 4 FEET ON ITS OWN. FORD REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. MAYBE A MULTIMILLION DOLLAR LAW SUIT WILL CHANGE THEIR MIND!
just about rear ended another car. tried turning off air con. track control did not help. took to dealer and they had in the shop for 6.5 hours then came out said it was throtel body and they would order part call in back in two days to make another apointment called and they said it was back ordered try back in a week then another week then another week. now we wait and see if it happens again.

This is truly an unsafe condition. The dealer wants $930 for the part, which is back ordered until anywhere from December through February of 2010, which leads me to believe that this is a widespread problem and perhaps a recall is in order! Ironically, this is not covered by my extended power train warranty (lucky me!).
