Driving from Orlando to Tampa early one morning, I was going up a hill at the last toll plaza on the 408. Rhe engine lost all power, the headlights stayed on, the radio still played, the AC still worked; but, the engine was off. There was a noticeable "thump" feeling when it happened. The rpms went to zero and there was no response to the accelerator and the "wrench" light came on.
I put the gear selector in neutral and coasted down to the first off ramp at the Good Homes exit. I shut the car off, waited a couple of minutes and started it back up. The wrench light was no longer on but the engine light was on. I drove to Tampa with no problems. the mechanic in Tampa told me the throttle body code was on and he turned the light off. I drove around Tampa all week - no problems and drove back to Orlando at the end of the week, no problems. I took it to our mechanic and he cleaned the throttle body.
Next Monday on my way to Tampa, the exact same scenario at the exact same place with the exact same results. This has been going on for 2 months. I've changed out the coil packs, spark plugs, fuel filter, relays, O-2 sensors, mass airflow, cleaned throttle body and gasket and serviced the transmission and replaced all fluids. He still had issues so he took it to FORD. FORD replaced: intake seals and pvc valve and reprogrammed PCM and retest note. The car ran great for one week. now it shut off on me 3 times on the way back from Tampa which is not the norm for this continuing mystery. Total in about 2 months = $ 3,800 and it's pretty dangerous driving on the two Toll roads, Turnpike and I 4.
It's been a great car with little problems till now - H-E-L-P !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
